The County of Kinross or Kinross-shire is a historic county and registration county in eastern Scotland, administered as part of Perth and Kinross since 1930. Surrounding its largest settlement and county town of Kinross, the county borders Perthshire to the north and Fife to the east, south and west. Scotland's second smallest county, Kinross-shire is dominated by Loch Leven, a large inland loch, with two islands and an internationally important nature reserve. One of the islands contains a castle, where Mary, Queen of Scots was once held prisoner. Much of the land in Kinross-shire is fertile agricultural land and most of the inhabitants were originally employed in farming. The gently-rolling farmland surrounding Loch Leven gives way to steep, more rugged terrain at the outskirts of the county.

Fothriff or Fothrif was a province of Scotland in the Middle Ages. It is often paired with Fife, not only in De Situ Albanie, but also in early charters. The exact extent of early Fothriff is unclear, but in around 1300 the Deanery of Fothriff in the Bishopric of St Andrews included both Clackmannan and Kinross, as well as Fife from the parishes of Auchtermuchty, Lathrisk, Cults, Kirkforthar Markinch and Methil westwards.

Middleton is a hamlet and farmstead in Perth and Kinross, Scotland. It lies approximately 3 miles (5 kilometres) north of Kinross, to the west of the M90 motorway.

Mawcarse railway station served the hamlet of Mawcarse, Perth and Kinross, Scotland from 1858 to 1964 on the Fife and Kinross Line.

The remains of Burleigh Castle are located just outside the village of Milnathort, 1.5 miles north of Kinross, in Perth and Kinross, Scotland. The castle dates from the 15th and 16th centuries, and now sits beside the A911 road, opposite a 19th-century steading, recently adapted into housing.

Milnathort is a small town in the parish of Orwell in the county of Kinross-shire, Scotland and since 1996, the local council area of Perth and Kinross. The smaller neighbour of nearby Kinross, Milnathort has a population of around 2,000 people. It is situated amidst countryside at the foot of the Ochil Hills, and near the north shore of Loch Leven. From 1977 it became more easily accessible due to the development of the M90 motorway. The name comes from the Gaelic maol coirthe meaning "bare hill of the standing stones".

Milnathort Town Hall is a municipal building in New Road, Milnathort, Perth and Kinross, Scotland. The structure, which is currently used as community events venue, is a Category B listed building.

The Bein Inn (commonly known as the Famous Bein Inn) is an historic building in Glenfarg, Perth and Kinross, Scotland. A "noted hostelry," according to the Gazetteer for Scotland, it was originally built in the 19th century as a resting place for travellers moving between Edinburgh and the Highlands on the old Great North Road, the traditional route north, today's A912 road. It stands at the junction of the A912 and the B996. An original building, now known as Bein Cottage, across the old Great North Road from the main inn, is no longer part of the inn. The inn has been extended on its western side, along the B996. In 1983, the inn had eighteen bedrooms.In the early 2000s, the inn was a noted venue for live rock music.

Orwell is a parish in Kinross-shire, Scotland. It contains the market town of Milnathort, as well as the hamlet of Middleton. The name comes from the Gaelic iubhar coille meaning "yew wood".The parish has an area of about 21 square miles (54 km2). In the south it is quite flat, gradually becoming hillier further north, until one reaches the Ochil Hills at the northern boundary. In addition to Milnathort and Middleton, it contains several farms, some standing stones and Burleigh Castle. Its population was 3005 in 1831, dropped to 1983 in 1911, and rose to 2043 in 1951.The Church of Scotland parish of Orwell and Portmoak includes Orwell church in Milnathort and Portmoak church in Scotlandwell.

Milnathort railway station served the town of Milnathort, Perth and Kinross, Scotland, from 1858 to 1964 on the Fife and Kinross Line.

Carsehall is a village in Perth and Kinross, Scotland. It is northeast of Loch Leven and west of Bishop Hill in the Lomond Hills. It is on the A911 road at its junction with the B919 road. It is approximately 5 miles (8 kilometres) west of Glenrothes and 3 miles (5 kilometres) east of Kinross. It is the location of the Balgedie Toll Tavern.
