The Ōtara Creek, is a major stream in South Auckland, in the Auckland Region of New Zealand's North Island. It flows northwards, then westwards into the Tāmaki River.

The Otahuhu power station was a power station site located in Otara, Auckland, New Zealand. Two plants operated on the site: Otahuhu A (initially open cycle gas turbines, then synchronous compensation) and Otahuhu B (a 404 MW combined cycle). A proposed third station, Otahuhu C, was never built. The stations were owned by Contact Energy. The site was sold by Contact in 2016.

Sir Edmund Hillary Collegiate is a school in Otara, Auckland, New Zealand. The school was formed in 2004, when Hillary College, Bairds Intermediate School and Clydemore Primary School joined together. There are three distinct schools on the one campus, which was opened by Sir Edmund Hillary, after whom it is named, in 2004. Hillary College opened in 1966 and was named Otara College until 1969. The Ministry of Education institution number for the senior school is 588. The numbers for the intermediate and junior schools are 1217 and 1251.On 29 January 2009, Education Minister Anne Tolley sacked the board of trustees at the collegiate, following an Education Review Office report and claims of teachers physically and verbally abusing students within the Senior school. Since then the school elected a new board of trustees.

Highbrook is a suburb located in the city of Auckland, in the North Island of New Zealand. The area is on the eastern side of the Auckland city centre and is a large industrial area developed only in recent years. The area is under governance of the Auckland Council, and is home to a large bulk of New Zealand and international businesses and organisations.

Bairds Mainfreight Primary School is a contributing primary school (years 0–6) in Otara, a suburb of Auckland Council, Auckland Region, New Zealand. The trucking and logistics firm Mainfreight Limited has sponsored the school since 1993. The school benefits from this relationship due to the support Mainfreight gives to it in the area of Information and Communication Technologies, and Alan Duff's Duffy Books in Homes programme. Mainfreight's philosophy of "Anything is Possible" is one that fits with the educational philosophy of the school. In 1997 the school renamed itself from Bairds Primary School to its current name.

Westfield is a suburb of Auckland, New Zealand For many years the abattoirs located here were discharging large amounts of untreated waste into Manukau Harbour. This had a detrimental effect on the ecology of the harbor, which at the turn of the 20th century had been a popular and attractive place to swim, sail, fish and gather shell fish. For most of the middle of the 20th century it was a health hazard and its shell-fish a probable source of food poisoning. Since the freezing works disappeared the water quality has improved greatly. There is a large railway marshalling yard located beside the Manukau Harbour. Portage Road is the location of Te Tō Waka, one of the overland routes between the two harbours (and thus the Pacific Ocean and the Tasman Sea), where the Māori would beach their waka (canoes) and drag them overland to the other coast, thus avoiding having to paddle around North Cape. This made the area of immense strategic importance in both pre-European times and during the early years of European occupation.

Established in 1970, Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT) (Māori: Te Whare Takiura o Manukau) is a large Category One institute of technology in Auckland, New Zealand. Category One is the highest possible educational rating as evaluated by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA). MIT is one of the largest providers of technical, vocational and professional education in New Zealand and has over 14,000 enrolled students. On 1 April 2020, Manukau Institute of Technology was subsumed into New Zealand Institute of Skills & Technology alongside the 15 other Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics (ITPs).

McAuley High School is a Catholic girls' secondary school in Ōtāhuhu, New Zealand. The school was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1962 and continues to be run by the order. Students at the school achieve highly compared to the national average and to students at schools with a similar decile rating. Attendance figures are very high compared to most low decile schools because the principal gives this a very high priority. Regular attendance at school is a constant message that is backed up by the local catholic church which stands at over 90%.In 2016 the school was awarded with both Excellence in Engaging and Education Supreme Awards by the Prime Minister of New Zealand.

Ōtara is a suburb of South Auckland, New Zealand (formerly Manukau City), situated 18 kilometres to the southeast of the Auckland CBD. Ōtara lies near the head of the Tamaki River (actually an arm of the Hauraki Gulf), which extends south towards the Manukau Harbour. Contemporary Ōtara is surrounded by the suburbs of Papatoetoe, East Tāmaki, Clover Park and Flat Bush. The suburb is noted for its proportion of Pacific Islander residents, who make up 78% of the Ōtara population, and its unusually low number of European New Zealanders (Pākehā) residents (10%).

The Tāmaki Bridge is a bridge along the Great South Road crossing the Tāmaki River in Auckland, New Zealand, connecting the suburbs of Ōtāhuhu and Papatoetoe. The first bridge opened in 1851, and was significantly widened in 1932.

Pakuranga Creek is a tidal estuary and stream in the Auckland Region of New Zealand's North Island. The creek flows from inlant Pakuranga, meeting the Pakuranga Stream and flows into the Tāmaki River.

Papatoetoe Intermediate School is an intermediate school (years 7–8) in Papatoetoe, a suburb of Manukau Ward, Auckland Region, New Zealand.
