San Luigi dei Francesi

The Contarelli Chapel or Cappella Contarelli is located within the church of San Luigi dei Francesi in Rome. It is famous for housing three paintings on the theme of Saint Matthew the Evangelist by the Baroque master Caravaggio. The paintings were Caravaggio's first major public commission and one that cemented his reputation as a master artist. The chapel commemorates the French cardinal Matthieu Cointerel.

Palazzo Madama (Italian pronunciation: [paˈlattso maˈdaːma]) in Rome is the seat of the Senate of the Italian Republic.

The Senate of the Republic (Italian: Senato della Repubblica) or Senate (Italian: Senato) is the upper house of the bicameral Italian Parliament (the other being the Chamber of Deputies). The two houses together form a perfect bicameral system, meaning they perform identical functions, but do so separately. The Senate currently has 315 seats. Pursuant to the amended Articles 57, 58, and 59 of the Italian Constitution, the Senate has a variable number of members, of which 196 will be elected from Italian constituencies in the next election, 4 from Italian citizens living abroad, and a small number (currently 6) are senators for life (senatori a vita), either appointed or ex officio. It was established in its current form on 8 May 1948, but previously existed during the Kingdom of Italy as Senato del Regno (Senate of the Kingdom), itself a continuation of the Senato Subalpino (Subalpine Senate) of Sardinia established on 8 May 1848. Members of the Senate are styled Senator or The Honourable Senator (Italian: Onorevole Senatore) and they meet at Palazzo Madama, Rome.

The Grand Orient of Italy (GOI) (Italian: Grande Oriente d'Italia) is an Italian masonic grand lodge founded in 1805; the viceroy Eugene of Beauharnais was instrumental in its establishment. It was based at the Palazzo Giustiniani, Rome, Italy from 1901 until 1985 and is now located at the Villa del Vascello. Its current Grand Master is Italian journalist Stefano Bisi.As of September 2015 the Grand Orient had 22,675 members in 842 lodges, a significant growth over the preceding three-year period.The international influence of the Grand Orient has decreased since it lost the official recognition of the "Home Grand Lodges" (of England, Ireland, and Scotland) owing to alleged corruption, although it remains regular in government and practice.

Palazzo Giustiniani or the Piccolo Colle (Little Hill) is a palace on the Via della Dogana Vecchia and Piazza della Rotonda, in Sant'Eustachio, Rome. The palace contains the official residence of the President of the Senate of the Republic, the Sala Zuccari, the offices of the Life senators and former Presidents of Italy, and some administrative offices. From 1901 until 1985, it was also the seat of the Masonic order of the Grand Orient of Italy.

The Biblioteca Angelica (English: Angelica Library) is a public library located in Rome, Italy. In front of the Piazza Sant'Agostino square, adjacent to the church of Sant'Agostino, not far from Piazza Navona. The library holds about 180,000 volumes of manuscripts (among them Codex Angelicus) and 1,100 incunabula, which formerly belonged to the Augustinians. These works are important for our knowledge of the history of the Reformation and Counter-Reformation.

Palazzo Baldassini is a palace in Rome, Italy, designed by the Renaissance architect Antonio da Sangallo the Younger in about 1516–1519. It was designed for the papal jurist from Naples, Melchiorre Baldassini. The ground floor was used for shops or workshops, and the piano nobile consisted of private apartments. The interior was frescoed by Giovanni da Udine, Perin del Vaga, Polidoro da Caravaggio and Maturino da Firenze.

The Basilica of St. Augustine in Campo Marzio (Italian: Basilica di Sant'Agostino in Campo Marzio; Latin: Basilica Sancti Augustini in Campo Martio), commonly known as Basilica of St. Augustine and locally as Sant'Agostino, is a Roman Catholic titular minor basilica dedicated to Saint Augustine of Hippo in Rome, Italy. It is the mother church of the Order of Saint Augustine and it is located near the Piazza Navona in the rione Sant'Eustachio. First conceived in 1286, where a primitive 8th-century church dedicated to St. Tryphon of Campsada was located, the basilica is known for its roman renaissance architecture style, artwork by artists such as Caravaggio, Raphael, Guercino and Bernini, and for being the burial place of Saint Monica (d. 387), mother of Saint Augustine of Hippo.

Two Angels in Sant'Agostino are two marble sculptures above the high altar of the Basilica of Sant'Agostino in Rome. They are listed as being by the Italian artist Gian Lorenzo Bernini in the biography of Baldinucci, and there is also recorded evidence of Bernini having been paid for them. However, it seems likely that Bernini passed the work over to one of his assistants, Giuliano Finelli.One of the bozzetti (preparatory works in terracotta) is in the Ringling Museum, Sarasota, in the USA. It was verified as a Bernini by art historian Rudolf Wittkower and purchased for US$5,880 by the museum in 1961; a fact corroborated in newspaper reports of the time. However, the current Ringling museum website states the work to be the design of Bernini and executed by Giuliano Finelli.

Sant'Eustachio [santeuˈstaːkjo] is a Roman Catholic titular church and minor basilica in Rome, named for the martyr Saint Eustace. It is located on Via di Sant'Eustachio in the rione Sant'Eustachio, a block west of the Pantheon and via della Rotonda, and a block east of Sant'Ivo alla Sapienza and the Via della Dogana Vecchia.

The Fontana dei Libri (Fountain of the Books) is a fountain in Rome, Italy. It is located on the site of the Palazzo della Sapienza, where the Roman State Archives are. The fountain is known for its unique design.

The Baths of Nero (Thermae Neronis) or Baths of Alexander (Thermae Alexandrinae) were a complex of ancient Roman baths on the Campus Martius in Rome, built by Nero in either 62 or 64 and rebuilt by Alexander Severus in 227 or 229. It stood between the Pantheon and the Stadium of Domitian and were listed among the most notable buildings in the city by Roman authors and became a much-frequented venue. These thermae were the second large public baths built in Rome, after the Baths of Agrippa, and it was probably the first "imperial-type" complex of baths, with a monumental scale and symmetrical, axially-planned design. While in the sixteenth century the foundations of the caldarium were still visible, nothing else of the structure remains above ground except some fragments of walls incorporated into the structure of Palazzo Madama.
