It is famous for the Viswanatha Swamy Temple, which is located along the banks of the Kalpathy river, one of the tributaries of the Bharathapuzha. Kalpathy is also famous for its agraharam, or traditional village. It is the first heritage village in Kerala. There are around 4 agraharams of Brahmins who migrated from Tamil Nadu so many years ago to Kalpathy. Many temples, other than the Viswanatha Swamy Temple, are also present here. The annual festival Kalpathi Ratholsavam is held here, with chariots as the main attraction. Kalpathy and it's neighbourhoods have witnessed large settlements of people in colonies and apartments, making it one of the major residential areas of the city.

Palakkad Railway Colony, or Hemambika Nagar Railway Colony, is a residential colony of the employees of the Palakkad Railway Division of the Southern Railway zone. It is situated in Hemambika Nagar, one of the suburbs of the city, located about 9 km from the centre of the city. It is one of the colonies which are maintained and are under Southern Railway. The only school in Kerala under Southern Railway, Railway High School Palakkad is located inside the colony.

NSS College of Engineering, Palakkad (Commonly known as NSSCE) is the fourth engineering educational institution established in Kerala, India. It was founded in 1960 by Nair Service Society. St Thomas School is an English-medium Catholic school located in Palakkad, Kerala, India. It was established in 1961 and continues to be operated by sisters of Marian Province of the Congregation of the Holy Family, founded by Blessed Mother Mariam Thresia. The school is situated six km away from Palakkad. The building that houses the classrooms covers an approximate area of five acres with no discrimination over space allocation between boys and girls. The school has a primary school building, high school building and higher secondary building. The campus playing fields are the middle field for games and sports, and the top field for recreation, breaks and picnics. The school has a basketball court. There is an open-air auditorium in which the house shows, debates, quizzes and cultural performances are staged. Extracurricular subjects such as art and sculpture are taught in workshops. There is also a large playground and garden situated on the school campus. There is large statue of Saint Thomas along with a Christian Church in the school campus. The school publishes an annual school magazine, titled Tharangam.

Sri Visalakshi Sametha Sri Viswanatha Swamy temple, popularly known as Kasi Viswanathaswamy Temple, or locally as kundukovil, is a famous Hindu temple located in the Kalpathy village of Palakkad in Kerala, India. It is the site of the annual Kalpathi Ratholsavam which is one of the most famous temple festivals of Kerala. This ancient temple nestles by the banks of the serene Kalpathy river (Nila Nadhi). Dedicate to Lord Siva and his consort Visalakshi (another name for Parvati), it dates back to early fifteenth century. The similarity to the Varanasi Kashi Viswanatha temple on the banks of Ganges is responsible for the moniker kasiyil pakuthi kalpathy and the name Dakshina Kashi associated with this temple. The Temple is surrounded by the four Tamil Brahmin agraharams or traditional villages: New Kalpathy, Old Kalpathy, Chathapuram and Govindarajapuram.
