The Maureen and Mike Mansfield Library is the campus library at the University of Montana in Missoula, Montana. Completed 46 years ago in 1978 on the east side of campus, the five-story library was funded by the U.S. Department of Commerce. In 1979, it was dedicated to Ambassador Mike Mansfield (1903–2001) and his wife Maureen. Previously a four-term U.S. Senator, alumnus Mansfield was the Senate's longest-serving majority leader (1961–1977). The library is home to the earliest authorized edition of the Lewis and Clark journals.

The University of Montana (UMT) is a public research university in Missoula, Montana. UM is a flagship institution of the Montana University System and its second largest campus. UM reported 10,962 undergraduate and graduate students in the fall of 2018. It is classified among "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity" as of 2022.The University of Montana ranks 17th in the nation and fifth among public universities in producing Rhodes Scholars; it has 11 Truman Scholars, 14 Goldwater Scholars, and 40 Udall Scholars to its name. One alumnus, Harold Urey, has won the Nobel Prize.

The Philip L. Wright Zoological Museum (UMZM) is a natural history facility and zoological collection located on the second floor of the Health Sciences building on the Missoula, Montana campus of the University of Montana. The UMZM is the largest zoological repository of its kind in the region. Its primary purpose is functioning as an active research facility that is open to all faculty, staff, and students of the university, while also giving tours to hobbyists as well as schools and educational groups. The museums collection consists of 14,500 mammalian, 7,000 avian, and 3,200 fish specimens. It is the largest museum of its kind between Eastern Washington University and Minneapolis, Minnesota, and houses one of the most extensive representations of Northern Rocky Mountain wildlife in the world. In addition to actively studying and documenting native species, the museum includes a wide variety of specimens from all over the globe, with the oldest dating from Leningrad, Russia, 1851. In early 2012, a volunteer curatorial assistant for the museum, Emily Graslie, hosted a series of videos on YouTube called The Brain Scoop exhibiting the various specimens the museum holds; the show has since moved to Chicago's Field Museum. The University of Montana started its collections in the 1890s with contributions from such renowned individuals as Morton J. Elrod, who was an early founding biologist, professor, and researcher at the University of Montana, and who also founded the Flathead Lake Biological Research Station in 1899. On September 1, 1939, the museum came under the direction of Dr. Philip L. Wright, who adamantly pursued collections until his death in 1997. That same year the university renamed the museum in honor of Dr. Wright's diligent efforts. Until recently it was under the direction of curator David L. Dyer; Dr. Angela Hornsby became the curator as of July 2019. It is otherwise staffed by volunteers.

The Phyllis J. Washington College of Education is home to three University of Montana departments: Counselor Education, Curriculum and Instruction, and Educational Leadership.

The University of Montana is home to a variety of institutes ranging from Health to Business to Public Policy. UM is home to a variety of institutes and research centers with many regarding ecology, environmentalism, wildlife preservation, Native American Issues, and health.

The Payne Family Native American Center, located at the University of Montana in Missoula, Montana, is the first facility built exclusively for a department of Native American Studies and American Indian Student Services in the United States.

The University of Montana Herbarium is a herbarium located at the University of Montana in Missoula, Montana. It is open by appointment only. The herbarium contains over 129,000 plant specimens, and is the world's largest and finest collection of Northern Rocky Mountains flora. Its primary mission is to collect and preserve specimens from the Western Cordillera and Great Plains but collections span a wider taxonomic and geographic range. About 60% of the 120,000 vascular plant specimens are from Montana itself, a state with diverse plant communities, including Great Plains prairies, Great Basin sagebrush steppes, boreal forests, Northern Rockies alpine communities, and the eastern limit of the moist conifer forests of the Pacific Northwest. The non-Montana collections include many duplicate specimens from Wyoming, Idaho, Utah and Nevada. The herbarium has a rich history, and its vascular plant collection represents over 100 years of botanical research in Montana, with hundreds of specimens from important early collectors, including C. Bessey, F. D. Kelsey, Marcus Jones and W. N. Suksdorf. That said, however, its greatest strength lies in more recent collections. Over 20,000 (28%) of the Montana vascular plant specimens were collected in the past 30 years by Prof. Klaus Lackschewitz or Peter Lesica. These newer specimens have location data accurate to the nearest square mile, making them a particularly useful resource for ecological and biogeographical studies.

The University of Montana School of Journalism is located at the University of Montana in Missoula, Montana, and is one of the oldest accredited journalism programs in the United States.

The William J. Jameson Law Library is the library of the Alexander Blewett III School of Law at the University of Montana in Missoula. It is 20,060 square feet (1,864 m2) in size and is the only academic law library in the state of Montana.

The Montana Museum of Art & Culture, or the MMAC, is a University of Montana art museum in Missoula, Montana with a collection of over 11,000 objects, many of which are of the contemporary American West.

Founded in 1918, the University of Montana College of Business is the oldest AACSB-accredited business school in Montana. The college tied for best business school in the Big Sky Conference in U.S. News & World Report's 2020 rankings. The UM College of Business has earned at least a share of the top spot in the Big Sky Conference for four consecutive years. This ranking made it the top-rated business school in Montana.The College of Business focuses on applied, experiential education by having students participate in hands-on business projects. Specific attention is given to professional networking. Over one hundred business professionals come to the Gallagher Business Building each year to share their knowledge through formal lectures and to talk with and recruit students. The college's Gianchetta Student Success Center offers an internship coordinator, adviser, career services, and other support structures to foster student success. Student organizations and study abroad opportunities in the college give students the chance to connect with peers and engage with the wider world in a variety of ways.

The Alexander Blewett III School of Law is a law school at the University of Montana in Missoula. It was established in 1911 and remains Montana's only law school.
