Iron Building (Watervliet Arsenal)

The Watervliet Arsenal is an arsenal of the United States Army located in Watervliet, New York, on the west bank of the Hudson River. It is the oldest continuously active arsenal in the United States, and today produces much of the artillery for the army, as well as gun tubes for cannons, mortars, and tanks. It has been a National Historic Landmark since 1966.The arsenal was founded on July 14, 1813 to support the War of 1812, and was designated as the Watervliet Arsenal in 1817. It occupies 142 acres (57 ha) of land, approximately 8 miles (13 km) north of Albany, New York. The location is adjacent to the Hudson River. The site contains manufacturing, administrative offices and storage areas. It also houses the Army's Benét Laboratories, which does product development, improvement, research, and testing.

Benét Laboratories, part of the US Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Armaments Center, is the US Army's primary design, development, engineering and production and field support facility for large caliber armament systems, including cannons, mortars, and recoilless rifles. The facility also works on tank gun mounts and turret components and munition handling systems.It is located at the Watervliet Arsenal in upstate New York. It is a part of the Weapons & Software Engineering Center (WSEC), US Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Armaments Center, which is located at Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey. Laboratory simulations are performed studying gun firing phenomena, and using static and dynamic load testing (up to 5 million lb), as well as environmental testing. The laboratories are named after the first chief of Army ordinance, Brigadier General Stephen Vincent Benet.

Watervliet ( waw-tər-VLEET or waw-tər-və-LEET) is a city in Albany County, in the U.S. state of New York. The population was 10,375 as of the 2020 census. Watervliet is north of Albany, the capital of the state, and is bordered on the north, west, and south by the town of Colonie. The city is also known as "the Arsenal City".

Mannsville is a hamlet within the town of Colonie, Albany County, New York, United States. It is a small community west of the city of Watervliet and is inaccessible to the rest of Colonie by car without driving through Watervliet. Town historian Jean Olton stated in 1987 that Mannsville was no longer considered "an official hamlet" of the Town of Colonie. As of 2019, Mannsville (misspelled as Mansville) is listed on the Town of Colonie's Town Historian website as an unincorporated community within the Town of Colonie.

The Poesten Kill is a 26.2-mile-long (42.2 km) creek in upstate New York located entirely in Rensselaer County, which flows westerly from its source at Dyken Pond in the town of Berlin to its mouth at the Hudson River in the city of Troy. It has been used historically as a source of water for local inhabitants and farmers and became even more important as a source of water power during the Industrial Revolution, during which many mills and factories sprung up along its banks. Its name is derived from the name of a local farmer and miller, Jan Barensten Wemple also known by the nickname "Wemp" or "Poest", that lived near the creek in the 1660s, and the Dutch word kill, meaning creek.

Schuyler Flatts is an important prehistoric and historic settlement site overlooking the Hudson River in Colonie, New York. The site includes evidence of prehistoric Native American, early Dutch colonial settlement, and 18th and 19th-century American use. Because of this rich confluence of archaeological sites, the area was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1993. It is now owned by the town of Colonie, and is known as Schuyler Flatts Cultural Park.

Burden Ironworks Office Building is a historic office building located in Troy, Rensselaer County, New York. It was built about 1880 and is a one-story, brick building laid out in a cruciform plan. It features gabled and hipped roofs and a central octagonal cupola and onion dome.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.

United Waste Manufacturing Company Building, also known as the Hudson River Terminal Warehouse Company and "The Fortress", is a historic warehouse building located at Troy, Rensselaer County, New York. It was built about 1902, and is a six-story, load bearing masonry building in the Romanesque Revival style. It features castellated detailing, three blind arcades, crenellated corner towers, and a prominent main tower that resembles castle keep.: 3–4 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.

Searle, Gardner and Company Cuff and Collar Factory, also known as the Marshall Ray Building, is a historic textile factory located at Troy, Rensselaer County, New York. It was built about 1898–1899, and consists of a five-story, 18 bay wide, rectangular, main block with an attached two-story block. It features segmental arched windows and Romanesque Revival style design elements. The building housed a collar and cuff, and later shirt, manufacturing plant into the mid-1900s.: 3–4 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.

The Burden Iron Works was an iron works and industrial complex on the Hudson River and Wynantskill Creek in Troy, New York. It once housed the Burden Water Wheel, the most powerful vertical water wheel in history. It is widely believed that George Washington Gale Ferris Jr., inventor of the Ferris wheel, had occasion to observe the wheel while a student at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The iron works site was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as an archaeological site in 1977. The Burden Ironworks Office Building was previously listed in 1972.

Ohio Street Methodist Episcopal Church Complex, also known as Third Avenue Methodist Church and St. Ann Maronite Catholic Church, is a historic Methodist Episcopal church at 1921 Third Avenue in Watervliet, Albany County, New York. It was originally built about 1850 and modified about 1895. The parish house was built about 1880. Both are brick buildings with wood floor and roof framing and stone foundations.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.In 2013 the church was renamed St. Ann Maronite Catholic Church as the 100 year old Maronite congregation, previously located on 4th Street in Troy brought the vacant Methodist Church Complex from the city of Watervliet.

Hedge Lawn is a historic home located at Colonie in Albany County, New York. It was built in 1870 and is an unusual 2+1⁄2-story mansion designed in a composite style with Greek Revival and Second Empire style elements. It features a Mansard roof with scalloped slate shingles, three pedimented dormers, and a monumental portico across the front elevation supported by six massive Doric order columns. Also on the property are a contributing carriage house, lawns, mature plantings, iron fence, and two wagon sheds.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
