The Keene Springs Hotel is a rambling wood-frame, two-story Greek Revival-style building built in sections in 1841 by Mason Singleton Jr. in the hamlet of Keene, near Nicholasville, Kentucky in Jessamine County. He and his wife Nancy owned and operated the hotel and tavern as a resort destination for the white sulphur springs nearby. During the cholera epidemic of 1848–1849 and outbreaks in the early 1850s, residents of Lexington came to the hotel to try to escape the spread of disease in the city. The Singletons operated the hotel until 1857, when they sold it to Alfred McTyre. After the American Civil War, tourist travel decreased because of the poor economy. F.S. Wilson purchased the hotel in 1868 and operated it as a boarding house through the end of the century. In the 20th century until the 1960s, Wilson family descendants used the structure as a general store and residence.The hotel is privately owned. A lessee operates a restaurant three days a week and is gradually restoring the building. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 5, 1984.

The Barbasol Championship was a professional golf tournament in Kentucky on the PGA Tour; it debuted in 2015 as an alternate event to The Open Championship in Britain in July. The first three editions of the tournament were played in Alabama at the Grand National course of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Opelika, northeast of Auburn. It was the first PGA Tour event played in Alabama since the PGA Championship in 1990. In 2018, the tournament moved to Kentucky to the Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, south of Lexington, and was the first PGA Tour event (excluding majors) in the state in 59 years, since the Kentucky Derby Open in 1959. (Valhalla Golf Club near Louisville hosted the PGA Championship in 1996, 2000, and 2014.) Like other alternate events, the winner of the Barbasol Championship does not earn an invitation to the Masters and point values are limited due to the weaker field (24 OWGR points and 300 FedEx Cup points compared to 100 OWGR points and 600 FedEx points for Open Championship winners). However, the winner still receives a two-year PGA Tour exemption and a trip to the PGA Championship. In August 2021, it was announced that from 2022 onward, the event would become a co-sanctioned event with the European Tour, played the same week as an alternate event to the Genesis Scottish Open. It would also be an event that would give the leading non-exempt golfer entry into The Open Championship.

Brannon Woods is an unincorporated community in Jessamine County, Kentucky, United States. Brannon Woods began growing along U.S. Route 68 as Lexington rapidly grew to the southwest and began running out of land. The first developments in the area began in the 1980s when several subdivisions were built along Brannon Road. Southland Christian Church, Lexington's largest church and the second largest church in Kentucky moved to a 20-acre (81,000 m2) site in Brannon Woods in 1981. In 2001 Bellerive Shopping Center was completed in the community. In 2005 US 68 was widened from Brannon Road to Man O War Blvd in Lexington, US 68 is currently being widened southward to Wilmore. Blue Grass Memorial Garden Cemetery is also located in Brannon Woods.

The John Allen House, off Kentucky Route 169 in Woodford County, Kentucky near Keene, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. The listing included two contributing buildings.It is an early dry stone hall-parlor plan house believed to have been built c.1790 by John Allen, who received a 1,000 acres (400 ha) grant in 1780 in what was then Virginia, due to his father's military service in 1763. John Allen was an American Revolutionary War soldier from Fauquier County, Virginia.A stone wing added c.1810 includes a Federal-style mantel.

It opened in 1997 along with East Jessamine High School after rapidly growing Jessamine County split its former high school, Jessamine County High, in two. West Jessamine inherited the former Jessamine County High's nickname of Colts.
