Minster Lovell Priory

Minster Lovell Hall is a ruin in Minster Lovell, an English village in the Oxfordshire Cotswolds. The ruins are situated by the River Windrush.

Minster Lovell is a village and civil parish on the River Windrush about 2+1⁄2 miles (4 km) west of Witney in Oxfordshire. The 2011 Census recorded the parish's population as 1,409. Minster Lovell village has three parts: Old Minster, Little Minster and New Minster. Old Minster includes the parish church, Minster Lovell Hall and the Old Swan Inn and Minster Mill Hotel. A large part of New Minster is the Charterville Allotments, which were founded by the Chartists in 1846–50.

Witney Town F.C. (known at various times as Witney F.C., Witney United F.C. and Witney Town A.F.C.) was a football club in Witney, Oxfordshire. The club was founded in 1885 (as Witney Football Club) and adopted the name Witney Town in 1922. The club's most successful period was in the 1970s and 80s when they competed in the Southern League Premier Division, finishing 5th in 1983–84. The club folded in 2001, but a phoenix club arose under the name Witney United in 2002 and obtained the lease of the former club's ground. The club readopted the Witney Town name in 2011, but was dissolved during the 2012–13 season while playing in the Hellenic League Premier Division.

Curbridge and Lew are civil parishes in West Oxfordshire, located to the south-west of Witney, Oxfordshire, that share a common parish council. The joint body was formed in 2012 by merging the formerly separate parish councils of Lew and Curbridge.

Curbridge is a village and civil parish immediately southwest of Witney, in the West Oxfordshire district, in the county of Oxfordshire, England. The 2011 Census recorded the parish's population as 529. Since 2012 it has been part of the Curbridge and Lew joint parish council area, sharing a parish council with the adjacent civil parish of Lew.

Crawley is a village and civil parish beside the River Windrush about 2+1⁄2 miles (4 km) north of Witney, Oxfordshire. The parish extends from the Windrush in the south almost to village of Leafield in the northwest. The 2011 Census recorded the parish's population as 155.

Witney is a county constituency in Oxfordshire represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elects one Member of Parliament by the first-past-the-post system of election, and was created for the 1983 general election. It has been a safe Conservative Party seat at recent elections. It is currently represented by Robert Courts of the Conservative Party. It was represented from 2001 to 2016 by David Cameron, Leader of the Conservative Party (2005–2016) and UK Prime Minister (2010–2016). On 12 September 2016, Cameron resigned from serving as an MP triggering the 2016 Witney by-election, at which Robert Courts of the Conservatives retained the seat; albeit with a reduced majority. His vote share subsequently rose to 55% at the 2017 and 2019 general elections. It is coterminous with the district of West Oxfordshire, and includes the towns of Carterton, Chipping Norton and Woodstock.

Worsham is a hamlet on the River Windrush about 3.5 miles (5.6 km) west of Witney. 0.25 miles (400 m) east of Worsham on the north side of the Windrush are the remains of a small Roman house. In later history Worsham was the site of a water mill. The area also has two Cotswold stone quarries, both now disused.

Leafield Castle (also known as Leafield Barrow) is a motte castle in the village of Leafield in the north west region of Oxfordshire. All that is left of the castle are the earthworks and the earth mound that formed the centre of the castle. It has a commanding view and is 220 metres (720 ft) north west of the Church of St Michael and All Angels. The castle is similar in size and shape to the nearby Ascot d'Oilly Castle. The motte measures 38 metres (125 ft) across and stands up to 4 metres (13 ft) high. It has a flat, oval summit which measures 19.9 metres (65 ft) from north west to south east and 12 metres (39 ft) from south west to north east. A square feature measuring 10.9 metres (36 ft) across with an internal depression 7.5 metres (25 ft) square and 0.3 metres (1 ft 0 in) deep is believed to indicate the remains of the stone keep building. On the opening of a barrow in 1828, some ancient coins were dug up.The village of Leafield itself is very old and was established by at least the 11th century, but there are few medieval remains and these are limited to features in houses that were later extensively rebuilt. This would mean that there could have been a castle guarding over the village from the 11th century onwards. This castle would have influence over the royal forest of Wychwood, a key centre for hunting as well as royal visits.

Leafield is a village and civil parish about 4 miles (6.4 km) northwest of Witney in West Oxfordshire. The parish includes the hamlet of Langley, 1 mile (1.6 km) west of Leafield village. The 2011 Census recorded the parish's population as 945. The village is 635 feet (194 m) above sea level in the Cotswold Hills. It was the highest point in Oxfordshire until the 1974 county boundary changes enlarged the county.

Lew is a village and civil parish about 2+1⁄2 miles (4 km) southwest of Witney in the West Oxfordshire District of Oxfordshire, England. The 2001 Census recorded the parish population as 65. Since 2012 the parish has been part of the Curbridge and Lew joint parish council area, sharing a parish council with the adjacent civil parish of Curbridge.
