Halwell

Halwell Camp is an Iron Age hill fort situated close to the village of Halwell in Devon, England. The fort is situated on a pass between two hilltops to the east of the village at approx 185 metres above sea level.

Halwell and Moreleigh is a civil parish in the South Hams district, in the county of Devon, England. It comprises the villages of Halwell and Moreleigh. In 2011 it had a population of 446.

Moreleigh or Morleigh (formerly Morley) is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Halwell and Moreleigh, in the South Hams, district, in the county of Devon, England. In 1961 the civil parish had a population of 102.

Stanborough is the site of an Iron Age hill fort near the village of Halwell, south of Totnes, Devon, England. The fort is situated on a promontory on the western edge of a hill at about 200 metres (660 ft) above sea level. The site was first listed as a historical heritage in 1923.

Washbourne is a hamlet in the South Hams in Devon, England, 4 miles (6 km) south of Totnes. It consists of three settlements, Higher Washbourne, Middle Washbourne and Lower Washbourne. Higher and Middle Washbourne are in the civil parish of Halwell and Moreleigh (in Halwell parish until 1988). Lower Washbourne is divided between the civil parishes of Ashprington and Cornworthy. Washbourne was mentioned in the Domesday Book, as Waseborne. The name is from the Old English wæsce "washing" and burna "stream", and so means "stream for washing", i.e. clothes or sheep. The stream is now known as the River Wash, a back-formation from the place.

Blackawton is a village and civil parish in the South Hams district of Devon, England. According to the 2001 census, it had a population of 647. Blackawton is a major part of the West Dart electoral ward. The ward's population at the 2011 census was 1,946. The village is about six miles west of Dartmouth. The church is 15th-century, with a Norman baptismal font and a well-preserved rood screen. Blackawton has hosted an annual worm charming competition since 1980. There is one pub in Blackawton, The George Inn. A second pub, The Normandy Arms, has since closed.The village runs its own village shop and post office, all run by volunteers. In 2010 a study of bumblebee behaviour by pupils from Blackawton Primary School was accepted for publication in the Royal Society's Biology Letters journal.

Allaleigh is a village in Devon, England.

The Mounts is a small hamlet, containing only 17 houses, situated on the A381 road between Totnes and Kingsbridge in Devon, England. It is part of the parish of East Allington, and lies about one mile away from the main village. Although The Mounts' postcode indicates it to be part of Totnes, it in fact lies much nearer to Kingsbridge. Historically, The Mounts was on the border of the area which was evacuated during World War II so that secret rehearsals for the D-Day landings ("Exercise Tiger") could be carried out, using Slapton Sands. Properties on the east side of the A381 were evacuated, whereas properties on the west side were allowed to remain occupied. It was in St. Andrew's Church, East Allington, that the announcement of the evacuation of the area was made, on 12 November 1943.

Harberton is a village, civil parish and former manor 3 miles south west of Totnes, in the South Hams District of Devon, England. The parish includes the village of Harbertonford situated on the main A381 road. In the 2001 census the parish had a population of 1,285. The village is a major part of the electoral ward of Avon and Harbourne. At the 2011 census the ward population was 2,217.
