Polsloe Priory

Polsloe Bridge railway station is a suburban railway station in Exeter, Devon, England. The station serves the Polsloe, Mount Pleasant, Hamlin and Whipton areas of the city.

Exmouth Junction is the railway junction where the Exmouth branch line diverges from the London Waterloo to Exeter main line in Exeter, Devon, England. It was for many years the location for one of the largest engine sheds in the former London and South Western Railway. The sidings served the railway's concrete casting factory as well as a goods yard.

The Honeylands, originally the Honeylands Children's Sanatorium and later the Honeylands Children's Centre was a hospital in Exeter, Devon used as a children's pulmonary tuberculosis sanatorium, later used for treatment of children with learning difficulties. Adults were treated at the nearby Whipton Hospital.

Newtown is an area of Exeter between St Sidwells and Heavitree and was traditionally an area for the poor since Saxon times. A workhouse was built in 1671 on a site currently used as a car park, but Newtown remained largely rural up until the 19th century. Around 1700 a new workhouse was built on what is now the site of Heavitree Hospital. Brick and tile making were carried on in Exeter by the Romans from clay workings within the city wall. By the 16th century, the rich red clay of Newtown was exploited for brick making, the main brickworks being sited in the location of what is currently the dry ski-slope and golf driving range. Due to the Cholera epidemics of the 1830s the open sewer that ran along the bottom of the hill was covered over, to create Clifton Road. In the mid-19th century four streets of small terraced houses were built to house manual workers, labourers and their families. In the 1880s St Matthews Church was built. In May 1942 Exeter was heavily bombed in the Baedeker raids of the Second World War. Newtown was badly affected with many buildings destroyed, including the lower section of Newtown School. Post war development saw the creation of the Inner By-pass (Western Way) which cut through the northern part of Newtown, while regeneration work in the late 1960s saw new developments of blocks of flats, some of which were placed to 'disrupt' the uniform Victorian street pattern.

Polsloe is a suburb of the city of Exeter in Devon, England. It lies to the east of the city centre and is served by Polsloe Bridge railway station. The name Polsloe is derived from Poll's marsh, named after Poll, the owner of land here at the time of the Domesday Book. The Benedictine priory, Polsloe Priory was founded here in around 1159.In 1899 the Exeter Brick and Tile Company built a factory on land that formerly belonged to the priory. The factory was capable of making 100,000 bricks each week, taking advantage of a nearby band of red clay which is particularly well-suited to such use.The main road in this suburb is Polsloe Road which runs north from Heavitree Road to Blackboy Road which leads out to Whipton. Polsloe Road follows the line of an Iron Age ridgeway track that ran from the River Exe towards Stoke Hill. Until the 19th century the road was known as Workhouse Road after the Heavitree Workhouse.Until boundary changes came into effect in 2016, Polsloe was a ward. In 2001 the population of the ward of Polsloe was 6,197, making it the 7th most populous out of 18 wards in the city. The population increased to 6,786 at the 2011 census.

St James School is a mixed secondary school located in Exeter in the English county of Devon.Previously a foundation school administered by Devon County Council, in May 2016 St James School was converted to academy status. The school is now part of the Ted Wragg Trust, but continues to coordinate with Devon County Council for admissions. The school moved into new buildings in February 2006.St James School offers GCSEs and OCR Nationals as programmes of study for pupils. The school also has specialisms in mathematics and computing.

Exeter Arena, formerly known as the Exhibition Fields, is an outdoor sports complex at Whipton Barton in Exeter, Devon.

Whipton Barton was an estate farm to the East of Exeter. The 'Barton' suffix is the traditional Devon wording for the manor house, and indicates a demesne in the feudal system. Whilst the house and farm no longer exist, they have given their name to an area of Exeter.

Bramdean School, Exeter was a private school situated in Heavitree, Exeter, founded in 1901 and closed in 2020. Bramdean School was a non-selective mixed independent school of up to 200 pupils located in Heavitree, Exeter, Devon. Sporting coaches include Javier Martin Cortes, former La Liga Barcelona FC Academy coach, Keith Brown, former vice-captain MCCC Lords and Jill Stone, former junior Wimbledon player, and development coach of the Lawn Tennis Association. The school motto "Tenax et Fortis" translates as "steadfast and courageous".

Heavitree is a historic village and former civil parish situated formerly outside the walls of the City of Exeter in Devon, England, and is today an eastern district of that city. It was formerly the first significant village outside the city on the road to London. It was the birthplace of the librarian Thomas Bodley, and the theologian Richard Hooker, and from the 16th century to 1818 was a site for executions within what is now the car park of the St Luke's Campus of the University of Exeter.

The Church of St Michael and All Angels is the main Church of England parish church for the suburb of Heavitree, located in the city of Exeter, Devon. The present building is a large and imposing Gothic Revival structure dating back to the 19th century but there has been a church on the site since Saxon times. Designated as a Grade II* listed building by Historic England, the church is notable for its Victorian architecture, tall tower and proximity to the 'Heavitree Yew', an ancient common yew tree within the churchyard amongst the oldest in the county.

St Sidwell's is an area east of Exeter city centre in the ward of Newtown. Formerly a village in its own right, St Sidwell's grew in importance along with Exeter thanks to its location on the main cart track between Exeter and the high ground of Stoke Hill and the rich farmland of East Devon.
