Aabenraa Municipality (Danish: Aabenraa Kommune, German: Kommune Apenrade) is a kommune in the Region of Southern Denmark in southwestern Denmark. The municipality has an area of 940.7 km2 and a total population of 59,002 (2023). Its largest town and the site of its municipal council is the city of Aabenraa. The mayor of the municipality is Jan Riber Jakobsen, representing the Conservative People's Party.The island of Barsø is located in the northeast corner of the municipality in the Little Belt. Major communities include Lundsbjerg near the capital, Aabenraa; Sogard to the south, Felsted to the east, and Løjt Kirkeby to the north. Løjt Kirkeby is connected by ferry service from the island of Barsø.

Aabenraa (Danish pronunciation: [ɔːpm̩ˈʁɔˀ]; German: Apenrade, pronounced [apn̩ˈʁaːdə] ; South Jutlandic: Affenråe) is a town in Southern Denmark, at the head of the Aabenraa Fjord, an arm of the Little Belt, 26 kilometres (16 mi) north of the Denmark–Germany border and 32 kilometres (20 mi) north of German town of Flensburg. It was the seat of Sønderjyllands Amt (South Jutland County) until 1 January 2007, when the Region of Southern Denmark was created as part of the 2007 Danish Municipal Reform. With a population of 16,685 (1 January 2023), Aabenraa is the largest town and the seat of the Aabenraa Municipality. The name Aabenraa originally meant "open beach" (Danish: åben strand).

South Jutland County (Danish: Sønderjyllands Amt) is a former county (Danish: amt) on the south-central portion of the Jutland Peninsula in southern Denmark. The county was formed on 1 April 1970, comprising the former counties of Aabenraa (E), Haderslev (N), Sønderborg (SE), and Tønder (SW). The county was abolished effective 1 January 2007, when the Region of Southern Denmark was formed. Following the reunification of the region with Denmark, the Church of Denmark elevated Haderslev to a diocese in 1923 and divided the region between the dioceses of Ribe (W) and Haderslev (E). This arrangement remains in effect.

Aabenraa County (Danish: Åbenrå Amt, former spelling: Aabenraa Amt) is a former province in Denmark, located on the east-central region of Southern Jutland. Aabenraa County was established in 1920 following the reunification of Denmark and South Jutland following the Schleswig Plebiscites. It was dissolved in 1970 when it merged with three other counties to form South Jutland County. Aabenraa County corresponded geographically to the former Prussian Kreis Apenrade combined with the larger part of Bov Parish and Frøslev municipality (Handewitt / Hanved Parish). Both were transferred from Kreis Flensburg with the establishment of the current Danish-German border. Aabenraa County and Sønderborg County merged in 1932, forming Aabenraa-Sønderborg County.

Løjt Kirkeby is a town, with a population of 2,357 (1 January 2023), in Aabenraa Municipality, Region of Southern Denmark in Denmark. The town is situated on a small peninsula named Løjt Land, 20 km (12 mi) south of Haderslev and 7 km (4.3 mi) north of Aabenraa.

Until 1 January 2007 Lundtoft was a municipality (Danish, kommune) in South Jutland County on the east coast of the Jutland peninsula in south Denmark. The municipality covered an area of 137 km2, and had a total population of 6,184 (2005). Its last mayor was Hans Philip Tietje, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party. The main town and the site of its municipal council was the town of Aabenraa, which it shared with neighboring Aabenraa Municipality. The municipality was created in 1970 due to a kommunalreform ("Municipality Reform") that combined a number of existing parishes: Felsted Parish Kliplev Parish Varnæs ParishLundtoft municipality ceased to exist as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It was merged with Bov, Rødekro, Tinglev, and Aabenraa municipalities to form the new Aabenraa municipality. This created a municipality with an area of 951 km2 and a total population of 60,151 (2005). The new municipality belongs to Region of Southern Denmark.

Hjordkær (German: Jordkirch) is a village in Hjordkær parish, Aabenraa Municipality, Region of Southern Denmark in Denmark. It is located 9 km west of Aabenraa and 7 km south of Rødekro and has a population of 1,605 (1 January 2023).

Hjordkær Parish (Danish: Hjordkær Sogn) is a parish in the Diocese of Haderslev in Aabenraa Municipality, Denmark. Hjordkær Church is located in the village of Hjordkær.

Barsø is a small populated island which is part of the Aabenraa municipality (Danish, kommune) in South Jutland County on the east coast of the Jutland peninsula in south Denmark. It has a car ferry connection to the mainland.
