Veliko Brdo (pronounced [ˈʋeːlikɔ ˈbəɾdɔ]; Italian: Berdo d'Elsane) is a village southwest of Ilirska Bistrica in the Inner Carniola region of Slovenia, close to the border with Croatia.

Dolenje pri Jelšanah (pronounced [dɔˈleːnjɛ pɾi jɛlˈʃaːnax]; Italian: Dolegna) is a village north of Jelšane in the Municipality of Ilirska Bistrica in the Inner Carniola region of Slovenia, next to the border with Croatia. The settlement includes the hamlets of Dolnji Kraj (Slovene: Dolnji kraj), Gornji Kraj (Gornji kraj), and Vrh Žloštajna.

Jelšane (pronounced [jɛu̯ˈʃaːnɛ]; Italian: Elsane) is a village in the Municipality of Ilirska Bistrica in the Inner Carniola region of Slovenia, right on the border with Croatia. The Jelšane international border crossing between Slovenia and Croatia is just south of the village. The Croatian settlement opposite Jelšane is Rupa in the municipality of Matulji. After Slovenia joined the Schengen area on December 21, 2007, the Rupa–Jelšane route was a Schengen external border crossing until 2023.

It is located in Matulji (Italian: Mattuglie) municipality in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, 17 km from the town of Matulji. It has a population of 310 (census 2001) and an area of 5.5 km2. Rupa is a major border crossing between the two countries where Croatia's Autocesta A7 motorway connects with Slovenia's Highway 7. The Slovenian town opposite Rupa is Jelšane in Ilirska Bistrica municipality. With Slovenia joining the Schengen area on December 21, 2007, Rupa-Jelšane became a Schengen external border crossing.
