Rideau-Jock Ward (Ward 21) is a city ward located in Ottawa, Ontario. Situated in the rural south end of the city, the ward includes rural areas west of the Rideau River and the communities of Manotick, Richmond, North Gower, Munster, Kars, Fallowfield, Ashton and Burritts Rapids as well as the former Goulbourn Township south and west of Stittsville.

Rideau is an historic township in eastern Ontario, Canada. It is located in the rural parts of the City of Ottawa, in the extreme south. Its eastern boundary is the Rideau River, its namesake. The township was created in 1974 after the amalgamation of two other townships: Marlborough, and North Gower, plus Long Island, which was split between Osgoode and Gloucester Townships. In 2001 it was amalgamated into the City of Ottawa. North Gower () is a small village in eastern Ontario, originally part of North Gower Township, now part of the city of Ottawa. Surrounding communities include Richmond, Kemptville, Kars and Manotick. Public high school students in this area go to South Carleton High School in Richmond. Elementary school students go to Marlborough Public School in North Gower. The village took its name from Admiral John Leveson-Gower, Lord of the Admiralty from 1783 to 1789.

Carleton County is the name of a former county in Ontario, Canada. In 1969, it was superseded by the Regional Municipality of Ottawa–Carleton. In 2001, the Regional Municipality and its eleven local municipalities (including Ottawa) were replaced by the current city of Ottawa.

The Regional Municipality of Ottawa–Carleton was a Regional Municipality and Census Division in Ontario, Canada, that existed between January 1, 1969, and January 1, 2001, and was primarily centred on the City of Ottawa. It was created in 1969 by restructuring Carleton County and annexing Cumberland Township from the United Counties of Prescott and Russell into the newly created Region of Ottawa–Carleton. It was the second Regional Municipality to be created in Ontario after the Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto. It served as an upper-tier level of municipal government, aggregating municipal services on a region-wide basis like the Counties and Regional Municipalities of Southern Ontario, and was the only upper-tier municipal government ever created in Eastern Ontario. The Regional Municipality was dissolved upon the creation of the amalgamated City of Ottawa on January 1, 2001.

The Dalhousie District was a historic district in Upper Canada which existed until 1849. It was created in 1838 from Carleton County in the Bathurst District. Townships from the Johnstown and Ottawa districts were added to Carleton County at the same time. The district town was Bytown, later Ottawa. In 1849, the district was replaced by Carleton County.

Burritts Rapids is a small village located on the Rideau River in eastern Ontario. The hamlet was named after Stephen Burritt, whose family was the first to settle in this area. At one time, the hamlet prospered due to its location on the Rideau Canal. The community straddles the river, so part is located in Rideau Township, now Rideau-Jock Ward in Ottawa, and part in North Grenville Township. There is a lock on the canal to bypass rapids here, the Burritts Rapids Bridge which crosses the canal and a stationary bridge which crosses the river.

The Burritts Rapids Bridge connects Donnelly Drive in Burritts Rapids to County Road 23 in North Grenville Township in Eastern Ontario, Canada. It was built in 1897, and although it has been updated since then, it still has the original design. It is a cottaging site, which is swung by hand by the lockstaff from the nearby Burritts Rapids lock. The white clapboard building next to the bridge is a historical building which now houses the library, though it was originally the bridgemaster's house. The bridge underwent extensive renovations in 2018. The bridge was closed to vehicle traffic February 5, 2018. The bridge reopened Tuesday, July 24, 2018.

South Carleton High School is a high school situated in the southwestern sector of the city of Ottawa, in the town of Richmond, Ontario. The school is under the jurisdiction of the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. The SCHS attendance boundaries cover a major section of the southern part of the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. Students come from all over the southwestern sector of the city but mainly from the communities of Stittsville, Manotick, Richmond, Riverside South, North Gower, Munster, Kars, Fallowfield, Ashton, Burritts Rapids and the area connecting these communities. SCHS feeder schools include Goulbourn Middle School, Kars on the Rideau Public School, and A. Lorne Cassidy Elementary School. The school opened in 1952 to 263 students and 13 teachers under the leadership of its first principal, W.W. Powell. South Carleton's 60th anniversary was celebrated in 2012.

Rideau Correctional Centre was opened in 1947 as a minimum-security facility, with an integrated farm where inmates could learn skills to be plied upon their release. It was decommissioned in 2004, and subsequently demolished in 2013.
