State Field was the home stadium of the Louisiana State University Tigers football team prior to 1924. The field was built on the old downtown campus of LSU. It was located east of the Pentagon Barracks and at the site of the current Louisiana State Capitol Building. Prior to construction of State Field, football games were played on an area called the parade grounds which was located south of the Pentagon Barracks and west of Hill Memorial Library and George Peabody Hall. The field, known on the campus simply as the "athletic field", was later moved to a site with bleachers that was north of the campus' experimental garden, and next to the old armory building. The field was also used for LSU's baseball and basketball teams.

The Capitol Park Museum is a branch of the Louisiana State Museum located at 660 N. 4th Street, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. There are two permanent exhibits on the history and culture of Louisiana. The building was designed by New Orleans-based design studio Eskew Dumez Ripple and exhibits were created by Christopher Chadbourne & Associates. Notable objects include the Bayou St. John submarine and Louis Armstrong's childhood bugle.

One American Place is a skyscraper in Downtown Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Its exterior surface is clad entirely in mirrored glass. Completed in 1974, with 24 floors, it stands 308 feet tall. It is currently the second-tallest building in Downtown Baton Rouge.

The Pentagon Barracks, also known as the Old United States Barracks, is a complex of buildings located at the corner of State Capitol Drive and River Road in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in the grounds of the state capitol. The site was used by the Spanish, French, British, Confederate States Army, and United States Army and was part of the short-lived Republic of West Florida. During its use as a military post the site has been visited by such notable figures as Zachary Taylor,Lafayette, Robert E. Lee, George Custer, Jefferson Davis, and Abraham Lincoln.

St. Joseph Cathedral (Spanish: Catedral de San José) is a Catholic cathedral located in downtown Baton Rouge, Louisiana, United States. It is the mother church of the Diocese of Baton Rouge, and it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 22, 1990.

The Louisiana State Capitol (French: Capitole de l'État de Louisiane) is the seat of government for the U.S. state of Louisiana and is located in downtown Baton Rouge. The capitol houses the chambers for the Louisiana State Legislature, made up of the House of Representatives and the Senate, as well as the office of the Governor of Louisiana. At 450 feet (137 m) tall and with 34 stories, it is the tallest skyscraper in Baton Rouge, the seventh tallest building in Louisiana, and tallest capitol in the United States. It is located on a 27-acre (110,000 m2) tract, which includes the capitol gardens. The Louisiana State Capitol is often thought of as "Huey Long's monument" due to the influence of the former Governor and U.S. Senator in getting the capitol built. The building's construction was completed in 1931. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978 and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1982.

On September 8, 1935, United States senator and former Louisiana governor Huey Long was fatally shot at the Louisiana State Capitol in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Long was an extremely popular and influential politician at the time, and his death eliminated a possible 1936 presidential bid against incumbent Franklin D. Roosevelt. Long was at the capitol to pass a redistricting bill to oust Judge Benjamin Henry Pavy, an opposition state judge. Shortly after passing the bill, Long was ambushed in a hallway by Carl Weiss, Pavy's son-in-law. According to the most widely accepted version of events, Weiss shot Long in the chest, and Long's bodyguards shot Weiss, killing him instantly. There remains some controversy over whether Weiss actually shot Long, with an alternative theory claiming he was shot by his bodyguard(s) by accident during the fight and another was that Weiss instead punched Long, who was then killed in the crossfire when his bodyguards opened fire on Weiss. Long was rushed to the Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, where emergency surgery failed to stop internal bleeding. He was pronounced dead at 4:10 a.m. on September 10, 31 hours after being shot. Over 200,000 people attended Long's funeral. His remains were buried on the grounds of the Louisiana State Capitol, which he had constructed. A statue of Long by Charles Keck was erected on his grave in 1940. Without Long as its leader, his Share Our Wealth movement collapsed, clearing the way for Roosevelt to be re-elected to the White House in a landslide. Long and Robert F. Kennedy of New York (in 1968) are the only two sitting United States senators to be assassinated.

The Central Fire Station in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, at 427 Laurel St., was built in 1924. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. It has also been known as Bogan Fire Station and it is home to the Robert A. Bogan Firefighters Museum. It is a two-story brick and terra cotta building with a Gothic Revival facade. It was designed by architect William T. Nolan and was built by the City of Baton Rouge.

Main Street Historic District is a historic district in downtown Baton Rouge, Louisiana, located along Main Street, from North 4th Street to North 7th Street. The 2.5 acres (1.0 ha) area comprises a total of 11 historic commercial buildings, dating from c.1890 to c.1935.The historic district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on November 7, 1985.

The Chase Tower is a 21-story building in Baton Rouge, Louisiana that serves as a business suite for many small businesses. It is the south tower of two towers, its counterpart being the Chase North Tower. In 2022 The Chase Towers were renamed the Rivermark Centre and renovated.

Spanish Town (Spanish: Ciudad española) is a historic district anchored by Spanish Town Road in Baton Rouge, the capital city of the U.S. state of Louisiana. It is well known for its annual Mardi Gras parade, which is the largest in Baton Rouge. Spanish Town was commissioned in 1805. It is the oldest neighborhood in Baton Rouge, and its 49.4 acres (20.0 ha) area, comprising 258 contributing properties, was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 31, 1978. The area has gone through many developmental changes, and its surviving structures range in date from 1823 to 1975. The oldest structure is the Pino House (built 1823). The individually listed Potts House and Stewart-Dougherty House are also part of the historic district since the time of its creation.The area is home to a variety of people from many different social classes. Spanish Town was at one time particularly renowned for possessing a higher-than-average proportion of gay residents, though this has waned over the years with urban gentrification.

Downtown Baton Rouge Historic District is a historic district in downtown Baton Rouge, Louisiana, located along 3rd Street, from Main Street to North Boulevard. The district comprises a total of 43 commercial buildings ranging in dates from c.1860 to mid-1950s. Third street was downtown Baton Rouge main commercial avenue during historic period. Of the 32 contributing properties, six are also individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places.Despite being located inside the district area, the individually listed Belisle Building is not part of Downtown Baton Rouge Historic District, as its non-historic elements are evaluated as predominant. The building is therefore considered a non-contributing property.The historic district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on November 10, 2009.
