Oakwood, Lexington

Highland Parks is a neighborhood in northwest Lexington, Kentucky, United States. It is a new subdivision started in the mid-2000s, located between the older Highlands and Oakwood neighborhoods. It is located south of Birch Drive and north of Boxwood Drive. It is bounded by Georgetown Road to the west and Oakwood Park to the east.

Highlands is a neighborhood in northwestern Lexington, Kentucky, United States. Its boundaries are Georgetown Road to the west, Oakwood Park to the east, and Citation Boulevard to the east. There are plans to develop a vacant field north of Highlands, it is unclear whether it will become part of Highlands or be a separate neighborhood.

Eastern State Hospital, located in Lexington, Kentucky, is the second oldest Psychiatric Hospital in the United States. It operates today as a psychiatric hospital with 239 beds providing inpatient care. Eastern State Hospital is owned by the Commonwealth of Kentucky, operated by the University of Kentucky's UK HealthCare and falls under the jurisdiction of the Cabinet for Health and Family Services.The facility has been known as: Fayette Hospital (1817–1822), Lunatic Asylum (1822–1844), The Kentucky Lunatic Asylum (1844–1849), Lunatic Asylum of Kentucky (1850–1852), The Lunatic Asylum (1850–1852), The Eastern Lunatic Asylum (1852–1855), The Eastern Lunatic Asylum of Kentucky (1855–1858), The Kentucky Eastern Lunatic Asylum (1858–1864), Eastern Lunatic Asylum (1864–1867), The Kentucky Eastern Lunatic Asylum (1867–1873), The First Kentucky Lunatic Asylum (1873–1876), Eastern Kentucky Lunatic Asylum (1876–1894), Eastern Kentucky Asylum for the Insane (1894–1912), Eastern State Hospital (from 1912 onwards).

Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital was established in Lexington, Kentucky in 1986 as a partnership between veterinarians William Rood and Thomas Riddle. The facility offers a range of services for the treatment of horses. They have cared for many famous Thoroughbreds both at the racetrack and on the farm. They also provide support for other equine sporting events such as the 2010 FEI World Equestrian Games held in Lexington. Rood & Riddle operates branches in Saratoga Springs, New York and Wellington, Florida.

Douglass School in Lexington, Kentucky, US, was both a primary and secondary Fayette County Public Schools from 1929 to 1971. Douglass School operated solely for African American students. The building that once housed Douglass School, located at 465 Price Road, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in Fayette County in 1998.

The company is headquartered on the Coldstream Research Campus in Lexington, Kentucky and has manufacturing plants in Duffield, Virginia and Albuquerque, New Mexico.Tempur-Pedic was originally based on NASA's research to develop a material that would cushion aircraft seats and improve survivability in the event of an accident.

Coldstream Research Campus, in Lexington, Kentucky, is home to over 50 organizations, many with ties to the University of Kentucky. Over 2,100 employees work on the 735-acre campus in agricultural biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, equine health, engineering technology, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and software/IT. Some companies are graduates of ASTeCC, UK's high-tech business incubator, others have licensed UK intellectual property or are clients of the Von Allmen Center for Entrepreneurship.OpenText, Pirimal Pharma Solutions, Komatsu, Tempur Sealy International, and A&W Restaurants have headquarters or regional offices at Coldstream. Eastern State Hospital, an inpatient psychiatric treatment center and brain injury research center operated by UK HealthCare, opened in September 2013. Coldstream Research Campus houses 21 buildings consisting of 1.3 million square feet of floor space. The current site of the Coldstream Research Campus has historical significance. It was once the McGrathiana Stud, a famous horse farm founded by Price McGrath that had strong ties to Thoroughbred racing. Aristides, a colt bred and raised at McGrathiana won the 1875 inaugural running of the Kentucky Derby for Price McGrath.

Lexington Cemetery is a private, non-profit 170-acre (69 ha) rural cemetery and arboretum located at 833 W. Main Street, Lexington, Kentucky. The Lexington Cemetery was established in 1848 as a place of beauty and a public cemetery, in part to deal with burials from the cholera epidemic in the area. What became Lexington National Cemetery was established in 1861 to inter American Civil War casualties. It was designed by Charles S. Bell and John Lutz. It was originally 40 acres but has expanded to 170 acres with more than 64,000 interments. Its plantings include boxwood, cherries, crabapples, dogwoods, magnolias, taxus, as well as flowers such as begonias, chrysanthemums, irises, jonquils, lantanas, lilies, and tulips. Also on the grounds is an American basswood (Tilia Americana), which the cemetery claims to be the largest in the world. However, this claim is not supported by the National Register of Big Trees, which claims that the largest American Basswood is located in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.

Meadowthorpe is a neighborhood in western Lexington, Kentucky, United States. Its boundaries are Leestown Road to the south, New Circle Road to the west, and Norfolk Southern railroad tracks to the north and east. Since 2000, areas south of Leestown Road have seen residential and commercial development in Townley Center. This area is not a part of the Meadowthorpe neighborhood. Schools in the area are Meadowthorpe Elementary and Leestown Middle School.

John Bell House in Lexington, Kentucky, also known as Stonehigh or John Webb House was built in c. 1810 by John Bell. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.It is a two-story stone house built c.1810 with a one-story stone ell built at the same time. It also has a one-story brick ell built c.1840 to serve as a kitchen. In 1982 was in excellent condition. It was then in a picturesque rural setting but is now within Lexington.The property includes a brick smokehouse, a two-story spring house and granary, and more.

The Central Kentucky Blue Grass Seed Co. is an Early Commercial building located at 321 Henry Street in Lexington, Kentucky. The company sold Kentucky blue grass seed. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.Its renovation earned a 2014 Historic Preservation Award from the Blue Grass Trust.An identifier number, "FA-NS-1404", is associated with the property.

Lexington National Cemetery is a United States National Cemetery located in the city of Lexington, Kentucky. Administered by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, it encompasses less than 4050 square meters (1 acre), and as of 2014 had approximately 1,700 interments. It is closed to new interments.
