Harold Washington Library

Harold Washington Library-State/Van Buren (formerly Library-State/Van Buren, formerly State/Van Buren, commonly abbreviated as Library) is an 'L' station serving the CTA's Brown, Orange, Pink, and Purple Lines. Originally, the station was to have direct access to the second floor of the Harold Washington Library building, but this direct connection was never built. Farecard transfers are also available at the station for the Red and Blue Lines via the Jackson/State and Jackson/Dearborn subway stations, respectively. It was originally known as State/Van Buren when it first opened in 1897. The original station closed on September 2, 1973, along with six other stations, due to low ridership, and demolished in 1975. The new station was rebuilt and reopened on June 22, 1997 in order to serve the Harold Washington Library. The Chicago Transit Authority board voted unanimously on Wednesday, October 6, 2010, to rename the station to its current name.

La Salle Extension University (LSEU), also styled as LaSalle Extension University, was a nationally accredited private university based in Chicago, Illinois. Although the school offered resident educational programs in classes and seminars their primary mode of delivery was by way of distance learning. LSEU was in operation from 1908 until 1982.

The Arc at Old Colony (Old Colony Building until 2015) is a 17-story landmark building in the Chicago Loop community area of Chicago, Illinois. Designed by the architectural firm Holabird & Roche in 1893–94, it stands at approximately 215 feet (65.5 m) and was the tallest building in Chicago at the time it was built. The building was designated a Chicago Landmark on July 7, 1978. It was the first tall building to use a system of internal portal arches as a means of bracing the structure against high winds.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. It is directly across the street to the west of the Harold Washington Library. The address of the Old Colony Building is 407 S. Dearborn Street. Built as an office building, the Old Colony was converted to an apartment building in 2015. The units are marketed to college students attending school in the South Loop.

The Second Leiter Building, also known as the Leiter II Building, the Sears Building, One Congress Center, and Robert Morris Center, is located at the southeast corner of South State Street and East Ida B. Wells Drive in Chicago, Illinois. The building is not to be confused with the present Willis Tower, formerly the Sears Tower, constructed and owned by the famous nationwide mail-order firm Sears, Roebuck & Company. This landmark of the Chicago school of architecture gained fame for being one of the earliest commercial buildings constructed with a metal skeleton frame remaining in the United States. Built in 1891 by Levi Z. Leiter, (1834-1904), the Second Leiter Building was designed by architect William Le Baron Jenney, who implemented the skeletal frame made of steel to make the design fireproof. The building was leased by Levi Leiter to the department store of Siegel, Cooper and Company who occupied it for approximately seven years. After Siegel Cooper closed, the building hosted various tenants until it became the downtown flagship store of Sears, Roebuck and Company in 1931. Sears occupied the space the until 1986 when it decided to close the store and the space was leased to other tenants.The structure is eight floors and occupies the entire block of State Street between Ida B. Wells Drive and Van Buren Street. The State Street facade consists of nine bays separated by wide pilasters. The pilasters are capped by simple capitals and an unadorned cornice crowns the entire structure. The Ida B. Wells and Van Buren facades are three bays wide with measurements of 400 ft (120 m) by 143 ft (44 m). Within each bay are four windows on each floor aligned vertically. The building is faced with a pink granite. Each floor contains 50,000 sq ft (4,600 m2) with 16 ft (4.9 m) ceilings and could be divided to house multiple tenants.Its predecessor, the First Leiter Building, was designed by Jenney in 1879 and stood at Wells and Monroe until it was demolished in 1972. The Second Leiter Building was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1976, and a Chicago Landmark on January 14, 1997. In 1998, the building became home to the Chicago campus of Robert Morris University-Illinois.

The Fisher Building is 20-story, 275-foot-tall (84 m) neo-Gothic landmark building located at 343 South Dearborn Street in the Chicago Loop community area of Chicago. Commissioned by paper magnate Lucius Fisher, the original building was completed in 1896 by D.H. Burnham & Company with an addition later added in 1907.

The Institute for Clinical Social Work (ICSW) is an independent educational institution in Chicago, Illinois, that provides practicing clinical social workers and other psychotherapists the opportunity to earn an MA or Ph.D. without taking a break from their professional pursuits. ICSW was established in 1981 and comprises more than 40 faculty members, 110 students, and 150 graduates.

Robert Morris University Illinois, formerly Robert Morris College, was a private university with its main campus in Chicago, Illinois. It was founded in 1965 but its oldest ancestor was the Moser School founded in 1913. It changed its name to Robert Morris University Illinois in 2009. In 2020, it merged into Roosevelt University, which formed under it a new Robert Morris Experiential College as one of several colleges at Roosevelt. Robert Morris offered associate and bachelor's degrees and was regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.

The Manhattan Building is a 16-story building at 431 South Dearborn Street in Chicago, Illinois. It was designed by architect William Le Baron Jenney and constructed from 1889 to 1891. It is the oldest surviving skyscraper in the world to use a purely skeletal supporting structure. The building was the first home of the Paymaster Corporation, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 16, 1976, and designated a Chicago Landmark on July 7, 1978.

Dearborn/Van Buren was a station on the Chicago Transit Authority's Loop. The station was located at Dearborn Street and Van Buren Street in downtown Chicago. Dearborn/Van Buren opened on October 3, 1897, and closed in 1949. The closed station was severely damaged by an explosion in 1968, and the station houses were removed in 1971, the rest of the station was demolished in 1975.The Harold Washington Library-State/Van Buren station now occupies the former Dearborn/Van Buren area.

University of Illinois Chicago School of Law is a public law school in Chicago, Illinois. Founded in 1899, the school offers programs for both part-time and full-time students, with both day and night classes available, and offers January enrollment.

The A. M. Rothschild & Company Store, also known as the Goldblatt's Building, is a historic department store building located at 333 South State Street in the Loop neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The store was built in 1912 for the Rothschild & Company department store, which was founded in the late 1800s by Abram M. Rothschild. Prominent Chicago School architects Holabird & Roche designed the store; while the firm had also designed the company's previous, smaller store, the 1912 building was their first and only full-block department store design. The building's skeletal frame and large windows are typical of Chicago School buildings, while its extensive terra cotta ornamentation reflects the then-popular Beaux-Arts style. Rothschild & Company occupied the building until 1923, when Marshall Field & Company purchased it; it was sold again in 1936 to Goldblatt's, who ran their flagship store in the building until 1981. The building is now owned by DePaul University and is primarily used for classrooms, though the building also contains the university's downtown library, cafeteria, and student union. A Barnes & Noble store utilizes most of the first level retail space. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 27, 1989.

Congress Terminal was a stub-end terminal on the "L" in downtown Chicago, Illinois. It was located at Congress Parkway over Holden Court. The terminal was in operation from 1892 to 1963. Congress Terminal was built by the Chicago and South Side Rapid Transit Railroad and was one of Chicago's original 'L' stations. On August 1, 1949, the CTA stopped service to the terminal as part of the service revision introducing A-B Skip-Stop service to the south side. The Chicago North Shore and Milwaukee Railroad continued to use the station as a baggage terminal until the line quit in 1963.
