Storrington

Storrington and Sullington is the name of a civil parish in the Horsham District of West Sussex, England. The parish covers both the town of Storrington and the village of Sullington. The civil parish has a land area of 1,200 hectares (3,000 acres). In the 2001 census 6074 people lived in 2778 households of whom 2563 were economically active. At the 2011 Census the population had increased to 6,966. In 2018 there was a recorded 8,955 people living in the Storrington area.

St Joseph's Abbey (The Abbey), Storrington at Storrington in Sussex, England, was originally a rectory, later a small country house and then a convent school. It is an irregular five bay, two and three storey house built in 1871-2 by the Rev. George Faithfull in the Victorian Gothic style, reusing material from the 1621 rectory which was demolished at this time. In the 1880s it was the residence of Colonel Walter George Stirling, a baronet who had a pedigree herd of Jersey cattle. Successive tenants altered the house; in 1911 (semi-timbered work) and 1930 (brick range) when Colonel H. V. Ravenscroft added a billiard room and ballroom designed by John Leopold Denman.In 1953 the house became a Dominican convent and boarding school. The school closed in 1999. Inside, the oldest part of the building has the former Dining Room (now Chapel) with good quality 19th- century linenfold panelling and frieze, plastered ceiling with strapwork ribs and stained glass windows. The Drawing Room has early 18th-century panelling and a fireplace with engaged columns; and the former Library (currently Meeting Room) has a 16th-century stone fireplace. There is an elaborate oak main staircase with turned balusters and a painted well staircase with turned balusters and chamfered square newel posts with ball finials.

Our Lady of England Priory in Storrington, West Sussex, England is the former home of Roman Catholic priests belonging to a Community of Canons Regular of Prémontré, (or 'Premonstratensians') after the place where they were founded in France in 1121. The priests are also known as Norbertines after Norbert of Xanten, the Founder of the order. Because of their white habits, another name for members of the Order is White Canons. The priests follow the Rule of St Augustine.

St Joseph's Hall in Greyfriars Lane, Storrington, West Sussex is a Grade II listed former residence of the Bishop of Arundel and Brighton. It was built as a private house for US businessman George Trotter in 1910, and then sold to a French religious order, the Norbertines. In 1956 it was used by Vincent and Nona Byrne as a home for refugees from the Hungarian uprising.

Storrington Football Club is a football club based in Storrington, near Horsham, West Sussex, England. Storrington FCwere 1st formed in 1882, where they were one of the founder members of the 1st ever Sussex football league. They played up until the 1st World War, then reformed after the war in 1919. They mainly played in the local Worthing league, where they enjoyed much success. They then stepped up and joined Sussex County League Division Two in 1976. Since then, they have been relegated to Division Three on three occasions, but have been promoted back to Division Two after a three-season spell in the lower division on each occasion. They are currently members of the Southern Combination Division Two and play at the Recreation Ground.

Arundel and South Downs () is a constituency in West Sussex created in 1997 and represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2019 by Andrew Griffith of the Conservative Party.

Chantry Mill is a 8.7-hectare (21-acre) geological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Storrington in West Sussex. It is a Geological Conservation Review site.This site provides the best exposure of the junction between the Gault and Folkestone Beds of the Wealden Group, dating to around 140 million years ago in the Early Cretaceous.A public footpath runs along the south-western edge of the site.

Storrington is an electoral division of West Sussex in the United Kingdom and returns one member to West Sussex County Council.

Sullington Warren is a 24.7-hectare (61-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Storrington in West Sussex. The site includes several tumuli which are Scheduled Monuments.It is owned by the National Trust. The National Trust initially purchased 28 acres of land in 1935, with funds raised via a public subscription. Chanctonbury District Council acquired the remaining 35 acres in 1959. Their successor, Horsham District Council, gifted the 35 acres to the National Trust in 1985.Most of this site is dry heath, but there are also areas of wet heath, scrub, bracken, woodland and grassland. Fauna include adders, lizards and insects such as the Sulligton Crane fly. Flora on the wet heath includes hare's-tail cottongrass and the insectivorous round-leaved sundew. Woodland birds include all three British species of woodpecker, treecreepers, long-tailed tits, nuthatches, nightingales and kestrels.Located on site are the remains of a 19th-century windmill on the south side of the Warren. The windmill was destroyed by a fire in 1911.There is access to the site from Water Lane.

Cootham ( KOHT-əm, KOOT-) is a hamlet in the Horsham District of West Sussex, England. It lies on the A283 road 0.9 miles (1.4 km) west of Storrington. Cootham's population numbers around 200 and there is one public house named The Crown, parts of which date from 1555. As a well known coaching inn 'The Crown' had its own stables. They were situated on the south side of the road opposite the pub and were converted, some years ago, into houses that are known today as Crown Cottages. The hamlet lies in the lee of the South Downs, between the country estate of Parham (included in the Domesday Book) and the village of Storrington, where the nearest facilities are located. The main road running through the middle of Cootham is the A283 that runs west to Pulborough and Midhurst and east to Storrington and Washington. Items of local interest include the Southdown Gliding Club which operates flights from Parham Airfield at the western extremity of Cootham; Cootham Village Hall which hosts various local community activities and Parham House itself, one of the south east's finest country houses. Public transport is limited to one bus, Compass Travel route 100, that runs to Pulborough railway station on the Bognor Regis to London Victoria line. In the 1980s, oil was discovered beneath a large part of Cootham and a small pumping station was constructed at the corner of the gliding field. This is still operational and features two 'nodding donkey' pumps and a gas burner. Much of the area surrounding Cootham is protected from development, though housing has encroached significantly since the late 1980s and there is now little untouched land between Cootham and Storrington.

Sullington is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Storrington and Sullington, in the Horsham district of West Sussex, England. The village lies on the A283 road west of the A24 road, 20 miles (32 km) south of Horsham. In 1961 the parish had a population of 1354. On 1 April 2003 the parish was abolished and merged with Storrington to form "Storrington & Sullington".St Mary's Parish Church nave dates back to Saxon times: the chancel and tower are from the 13th century and the church was restored in 1873. The patronage of the parish rested with the lord of the manor of Sullington until 1938, when Evelyn Palmer (Lady Caldecott) passed it to the Diocese of Chichester. The Victorian rectory (built c1845) was sold off as a private residence and later occupied by the writer A J Cronin and the politician Lady Cynthia Asquith. The modern rectory is on Washington Road.Sullington Manor, on Sullington Lane, is a Grade II listed former farmhouse. The manor was held by the Shelley family from the dissolution of the monasteries (1546) until 1789, when it was sold to George Wyndham, 3rd Earl of Egremont.A feature is Sullington Warren, which is a woodland area popular among visitors to Sullington.

Rydon Community College was a maintained comprehensive middle-deemed-secondary school for pupils aged 10 to 13. The school was located just outside Storrington, West Sussex, England, in the village of Sullington. It was one of only 7 schools of its type in the United Kingdom, and had around 400 pupils. Rydon had specialisms in Science College and Business and Enterprise College . All subjects were taught to Year 6 pupils and above as secondary pupils. The school permanently closed in July 2017.
