Ellison Bay, Wisconsin

The Clearing Folk School, usually called just The Clearing, is a 125-acre (0.51 km2) continuing education institution located near Ellison Bay, Wisconsin, United States. It was founded by Jens Jensen in 1935. A successful landscape architect, Jensen began acquiring a private summer estate in 1919; the estate, re-landscaped by Jensen, became the nucleus of the school. Jensen was inspired by the folk high schools of his native Denmark.

Liberty Grove is a town in Door County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 2,096 at the 2020 census. The unincorporated communities of Ellison Bay, Gills Rock, North Bay, Northport, and Rowleys Bay are in the town.

The Mink River is a 1.4-mile-long (2.3 km) lacustuary, or freshwater estuary, near the northern tip of the Door Peninsula of Wisconsin, in the United States. It is noted for its excellent bass fishing, and the area boasts more than 200 species of birds. The river flows in a southeasterly direction into the estuary on Rowleys Bay, Lake Michigan, 4 miles (6 km) southeast of the village of Ellison Bay. In 1989, 35 species of birds were found in two habitats in the Mink River Estuary.

Fleetwing was a schooner that sank in Lake Michigan off Liberty Grove, Wisconsin, United States. In 2001 the shipwreck site was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Rowleys Bay is an unincorporated community located on Lake Michigan in northern Door County, Wisconsin, in the town of Liberty Grove. The community is named after Peter Rowley who settled in the area in 1835.

Gills Rock is an unincorporated community located on Highway 42 at the northern tip of the Door Peninsula in Door County, Wisconsin, United States. It is within the town of Liberty Grove and was formerly known as Hedgehog Harbor.

Newport State Park is a 2,373-acre (960 ha) Wisconsin state park at the tip of Door Peninsula near Europe Lake. Protecting 11 miles (18 km) of shoreline on Lake Michigan, Newport is Wisconsin's only wilderness-designated state park. The park is open year-round and can be accessed via WIS 42.

The Sister Islands are two islands in Lake Michigan. They are located in the bay of Green Bay, in the town of Liberty Grove, Wisconsin. At one point the islands were connected, but higher water levels have eroded the size of the islands. Combined, the area of the islands sits at 6 acres (2.4 ha). There are many species of birds that nest on the islands. In 1964 there were an estimated 1,350 to 1,650 breeding pairs of herring gulls on the islands. Both islands are owned and operated by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, and they are protected as the Sister Islands State Natural AreaThe shipwreck Meridian lies in the water south of the islands.

Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant is a family owned, casual dining restaurant in Sister Bay, Wisconsin; it is known for its Swedish cuisine and Scandinavian experience, as well as for its goats which graze on the rooftop on summer days, to the delight of guests.

Jischke's Meat Market is a historic building located at 414 Maple Dr. in Sister Bay, Wisconsin. Built in 1902, the building was originally a butcher shop run by Frank Jischke and his son M. J. The Jischkes were German immigrants who settled in Door County in 1892; they originally lived in Ephraim and later moved to Sister Bay. In addition to his work at the butcher shop, M. J. Jischke was a prominent citizen in Sister Bay who served as constable and postmaster.The store is currently occupied by a bed and breakfast called Roots Inn and Kitchen. The inn uses the market as a gift shop and common area and has rooms in the Jischke's second floor living space.The store was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 11, 1986.

Sister Bay is a village in Door County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 876 at the 2010 census.

Europe Lake, is a lake near Gills Rock in Door County, Wisconsin. It is the northeasternmost lake in Wisconsin. The lake is mainly a shallow lowland marsh, similar to nearby Kangaroo Lake. It is suspected that the lake was once part of Lake Michigan until a drop in Lake Michigan's water levels closed off the bay and made it a lake.
