Seaside Park (Connecticut)

The Park Apartments are a historic apartment building at 59 Rennell Street in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Built in 1916 during the First World War, it was the first development of the Bridgeport Housing Corporation, established to provide emergency housing for workers in the city's war-related industries. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

Historic Seaside Village Co-operative encompasses a primarily residential area in the South End of Bridgeport, Connecticut. It is bounded on the east by Iranistan Avenue, the north by South Avenue, the south by Forest Court and by the west by Alsace Street. The property consists of a densely built collection of brick rowhouses, arranged in irregular combinations. The village was developed during World War I to alleviate a housing shortage caused by an influx of workers hired to work in the city's munitions factories. It is a good example of an early government-funded project of this type, and was a collaborative design effort by R. Clipston Sturgis, Skinner & Walker, and Arthur Shurtleff. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

Marina Village is a housing project located in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Marina Village was built in 1940 with support from the Bridgeport NAACP. It is run by the Bridgeport Housing Authority and was developed as a result of the Housing Act of 1949.

The Marina Park Historic District encompasses the finest collection of high-style late 19th-century residential architecture in the city of Bridgeport, Connecticut. Extending along Park Avenue between Seaside Park and Atlantic Avenue, this area was home to Bridgeport's industrial and civic leaders, and was developed by city booster P.T. Barnum. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

Iranistan was a Moorish Revival mansion in Bridgeport, Connecticut commissioned by P. T. Barnum in 1848. It was designed by Bohemian-American architect Leopold Eidlitz. At this "beautiful country seat" Barnum played host to such famous contemporaries as the Hutchinson Family Singers, Matthew Arnold, George Armstrong Custer, Horace Greeley, and Mark Twain. The grandiose structure survived only a decade before being destroyed by fire in 1857. It was one of five such fires in the showman's life that "burned to the ground all his accomplishments".

Ahavath Achim Synagogue was located at 725 Hancock Avenue in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The building was built in 1926 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 11, 1995, as "West End Congregation--Achavath [sic] Achim Synagogue". The building is a rare example in Bridgeport of a Colonial Revival house of worship containing details such as a portico with fluted columns and round arch stained-glass windows. Bridgeport architect Leonard Asheim designed many municipal and ecclesiastical buildings from 1910 to 1940.

Bassickville Historic District is a historic district encompassing a well-preserved late 19th-century residential development on the west side of Bridgeport, Connecticut. Located on Bassick, Howard, and Fairview Avenues, the area was developed as a residential subdivision of worker housing by Edmund Bassick. The development is characterized by nearly identical 1-1/2 story frame cottages exhibiting the Stick style of architecture. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.

The Klein Memorial Auditorium is a 1400-seat proscenium theater located at 910 Fairfield Avenue in Bridgeport, CT. The venue was built with funds willed to the city by Bridgeport native Jacob Klein (1862 - 1932), a lawyer and active supporter of Bridgeport community organizations. The auditorium, designed by local architect Leonard Asheim, was built in the Art Deco style and features bronze doors, a marble lobby, inlaid wood and geometric motifs. After opening its doors in 1940, the Klein hosted such acts as Leonard Bernstein, Arthur Fiedler, Eleanor Roosevelt, Martin Luther King Jr., Paul Robeson, Milton Berle, Victor Borge and Bill Cosby. More recently The Klein has hosted such diverse musical acts as Alice Cooper, B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Boz Scaggs, Herbie Hancock, Ziggy Marley, George Carlin, Peter Frampton, Boyz II Men, the B-52s, and the Parris Island Marine Band.In addition to its history as a concert venue, local dance recitals, graduations, and union meetings occur regularly at the Klein, and the theater has been the home of the Greater Bridgeport Symphony Orchestra for the past 60 years. Other companies currently in residence include the New England Ballet Company, Greater Bridgeport Youth Orchestras, ConnectUs, and the Fairfield County Children's Choir.
