Wolkenstein is a town in the district Erzgebirgskreis, in Saxony, Germany. It is situated in the Ore Mountains, on the river Zschopau, 22 km southeast of Chemnitz. The town is situated on a rocky spur near the confluence of the Zschopau and Preßnitz rivers. Its name is derived from the eponymous castle which is situated ca. 70 m above the river, and whose name signifies a rock that rises into the clouds. Aside from the town itself, Wolkenstein consists of the following subdivisions: Warmbad is a spa town known for its hot spring with a variety of medicinal uses.

Gehringswalde, a so-called Waldhufendorf, is situated about 1.5 km east of Wolkenstein in the Ore Mountains. It extends for about 1.5 km along the valley of a stream which joins the Zschopau river ca. 1.5 km west of Warmbad. The nearby Hüttengrundmühle (site of a former water mill) is also part of the village. The mountain Dreibrüderhöhe lies ca. 3 km east of Gehringswalde. Bundesstraße 101 forms the main road of the village, at whose western end it is joined by Bundesstraße 171. A county road connects Gehringswalde with Warmbad.

The Battle of Preßnitz (German: Schlacht bei Preßnitz) was a military engagement fought on 27 March [O.S. 17 March] 1641 during the Thirty Years' War. In the battle, Imperial troops under Octavio Piccolomini defeated the Swedish army under Field Marshal Johan Baner.

St. Anne's Church (German: St.-Annen-Kirche) in Annaberg-Buchholz, German Free State of Saxony, is a hall church whose architectural style is on the boundary between the Late Gothic and Saxon Renaissance. With a length of 65 metres (213 ft) and width of 40 metres (130 ft), it is the largest, true hall church of the Late Gothic in Saxony. Its tower is 78 metres (256 ft) high, the interior of the church 28 metres (92 ft) high. It is the emblem of the town and visible from a long way off. Saint Anne's was originally built in 1499 as a Roman Catholic church, but became Lutheran in 1539.

The Ore Mountain Museum (German: Erzgebirgsmuseum) is a museum in Annaberg-Buchholz in the German state of Saxony and located in the Ore Mountains of Central Europe. Its display includes examples of Ore Mountain folk art, especially carvings, bobbin work and passements) and gives an insight into the history of the town of Annaberg and of silver mining in the region. The museum also owns a work from the workshop of Lucas Cranach the Younger from 1572 and a large collection of valuable pewter vessels. Adjoining the museum is the visitor mine of Im Gößner.
