Eccles (Scottish Gaelic: An Eaglais. Brythonic/Welsh: Eglwys) is a village and agricultural parish near Kelso in Berwickshire in the Scottish Borders area of Scotland. The village is conjoined with Birgham and Leitholm.

Eden Water is a tributary of the River Tweed in the Scottish Borders of Scotland. "Water" is the Lowland Scots term for a small river. The Eden Burn rises to the east of Lauder at Corsbie Moor on Boon Farm. The Eden Water passes Bassendean village and Bassendean House and the hamlets of Fawside and Mack's Mill. Next is the county town of Gordon, and the Water flows through Gordon East Mains, under the A6105, then through the Mellerstain House estate, and the river now turns east towards Old Nenthorn, Nenthorn House, and Nenthorn where the A6089, the B6404 and the B6364 pass over it. After passing by Ednam Cliftonhill and Ednam East Mill, the Eden Water joins the River Tweed where the A698 bridges it.

Leitholm (Scots: Leithowm) is a village in the Scottish Borders area of Scotland, 4 miles (6.4 km) north-west of Coldstream, in the former county of Berwickshire. Birgham is a village in Berwickshire, parish of Eccles in the Scottish Borders area of Scotland, near Coldstream and the River Tweed, on the A698. Birgham is close to Ednam, Kelso, Lempitlaw, Leitholm and Sprouston as well as Carham and Wark on Tweed, Northumberland. Since mid-December 2015 Birgham has been unofficially twinned with Bedford Falls, the setting for the 1946 film It's a Wonderful Life, even having its road signs amended to include the reference.

Ednam is a small village near Kelso in the Scottish Borders area of Scotland. Places nearby include Stichill, Sprouston, Nenthorn, Eccles, Gordon, Greenlaw as well as Floors Castle. The village was formerly in Roxburghshire. Its name is a corruption of the Anglo-Saxon "Edenham", i.e. the town on Eden Water. Near the village is a knoll called The Piper's Grave. It is named after a legend that a local piper once went searching for fairies in the hill, and was never seen again.

Sprouston railway station served the village of Sprouston, Scottish Borders, Scotland, from 1849 to 1965 on the Kelso Branch.

Sprouston is a village, parish and former feudal barony in the Scottish Borders area of Scotland, as well as the historic county of Roxburghshire, located 2 miles north-east of Kelso. The village is close to the south bank of the river Tweed (200 yards away), which forms the northern boundary of the parish. The eastern border of the parish is also the border with England and with the parish of Carham, Northumberland in that country, Sprouston being the last Scottish parish on the south side of the Tweed. The parish of Linton borders Sprouston to the south and the parishes of Eckford and Kelso to the west. The parish forms a rough square shape about 4 miles across and has an area of 8637 acres Sprouston Community Council covers roughly the same area as the civil parish.

The Battle of Carham was fought between the English ruler of Bamburgh and the king of Scotland in alliance with the Cumbrians. The encounter took place in the 1010s, most likely 1018 (or perhaps 1016), at Carham on Tweed in what is now Northumberland, England. Uhtred, son of Waltheof of Bamburgh (or his brother Eadwulf Cudel), fought the combined forces of Malcolm II of Scotland and Owen the Bald, king of the Cumbrians (or Strathclyde). The result of the battle was a victory for the Scots and Cumbrians.
