Highland Hall (Columbus, Georgia)

Columbus High School (CHS) is a public high school located in Columbus, Georgia, United States. It serves as one of the Muscogee County School District's liberal arts magnet schools. It opened in 1890. In 2018, the school ranked second in the state of Georgia, 105th in the nation, and 21st among magnet schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.

Temple Israel is the second oldest Jewish congregation in Georgia, United States. Founded in 1854 as Temple B'nai Israel, a Charter Member of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, now the Union for Reform Judaism, it remains a congregation affiliated with Reform Judaism. Today the Jewish population of Columbus is less than 750 individuals and Temple Israel community retains around 150 members.

The Shannon Hosiery Mill, Inc. was incorporated in Columbus, GA on November 8, 1938. The one story mill sat on a 5 ½ acre lot 1338 Talbotton Ave in the northeastern side of Columbus. The cost of the buildings and the grounds was around $100,000. It produced silk hosiery for the southeast region of the United States. The first president was N.S. Illges, and vice president was J.P. Illges. Other officers included W.T. Cothran as secretary and treasurer and E.C. Alford as assistant secretary. Shannon Hosiery Mill, Inc. targeted the southeast region. By 1955, J Chadbourn Bolles had become the new president of the mill. The mill facility was sold in 1958. The Muscogee Board of Education purchased the Shannon Hosiery Mill property for $250,000. The building was renovated and became a short-term home for the new junior college, Columbus College. By 1980 the mill site was owned by the Muscogee County School District. In 1988, the old mill building was destroyed, but would not be forgotten. In 2008, a historic marker for the mills was placed off Warm Springs Road. According to the historic marker, "more than 20,000 bricks from the mill's old smokestack were salvaged and cleaned by college faculty, staff and students and were used to line the inner arches of the Whitley Clock Tower, built in 1991 in the center of the CSU main campus." Today, Hannan Academy is located on the site where the old mill stood.

Dinglewood House is a National Register of Historic Places listed building located at 1429 Dinglewood St., Columbus, Georgia. Joel Early Hurt built the Italianate house for his wife Frances and daughter Julia in 1858 and spared no expense. Columbus architecture firm Barringer & Morton produced the drawings. The house reflects several architectural styles: it has French windows, Italianate overhanging eaves with decorative brackets, and a Classical Revival-style entrance with Corinthian columns.

St. Elmo is a historic residence on the National Register of Historic Places, located in MidTown Columbus, Georgia at 2808 18th Avenue.

The Aflac Building, located in Columbus, Georgia, was ordered in late November 1974, the groundbreaking ceremony took place January 4, 1975, and the tower was complete and occupied on December 19, 1975. The tower is the tallest building in the U.S. state of Georgia outside of the Atlanta Metropolitan Area, Savannah, and Augusta. It Is located about 1 mile east of downtown. The building is 278 feet (85 m) tall. It serves as the headquarters for Aflac, an insurance company. The tower was to modernize the downtown Columbus area along with the Columbus government center built a year earlier.

The Columbus Museum in Columbus, Georgia, was founded in 1953. It contains many artifacts on both American art and regional history, displayed in both its permanent collection as well as temporary exhibitions. It is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. Former curator and director, Joseph B. Mahan, Jr., was instrumental in the creation of the Institute for the Study of American Cultures in 1983.

The Secondary Industrial School in Columbus, Georgia is a historic school built in 1906. It was the first secondary-level industrial/vocational school in the United States: it "has been called the nation's first public-supported, coeducational industrial high school." Located at 1112 29th St., the building was designed by J.W. Golucke & Co. in Beaux Arts style. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.It has also been known as S.I.S., as Columbus Junior High, and as Jordan Vocational High. It was a project of Carleton B. Gibson, who became Superintendent of schools in Columbus in 1896.

The Old City Cemetery, also known as Linwood Cemetery, is a 28.7-acre (11.6 ha) cemetery on what is now Linwood Boulevard, in Columbus, Georgia. It dates from 1828, when the town of Columbus was founded, or before. It appears in surveyor Edward Lloyd Thomas's original plan for the city. The cemetery consists mostly of rectangular family plots bordered by iron fences or walls made of brick or granite, accessed by a main east-west corridor and perpendicular lanes. It includes both simple and elaborate tombstones, some displaying Egyptian Revival or Gothic styles. The cemetery was given the name "Linwood" in 1894 by city council resolution, probably to honor Columbus author Caroline Lee Hentz whose works include Ernest Linwood, an 1856 book.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.According to its 1978 nomination, the majority of prominent Columbus persons are buried there. Its burials include more than 200 Confederate Army soldiers representing every state in the Confederacy.Thomas's own son was an early burial, as he died and was buried in the cemetery in 1828 while Thomas was amidst his work surveying, but apparently the grounds include earlier marked and unmarked graves of "'early traders, river people, and Indians.'"

Hilton in Columbus, Georgia was built in 1843 for Dr. Lovick Pierce, who bought the land in 1838. It was built as a "comfortable" four-room house on its own city block, with a driveway avenue of cedar trees leading to it from Macon Road.He was a medical doctor in Philadelphia and became a Methodist minister.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. The NRHP listing included 6 acres (2.4 ha) with two contributing buildings.Its architecture is described as "Italian Villa" style, which may relate to Italianate architecture. The house was restored in 1936.

Columbus Union Station was a union station in Columbus, Georgia. The building was built in 1901 and was designed in the Second Empire style by the architectural firm, Bruce and Morgan. The station hosted the Central Railroad of Georgia, the Seaboard Air Line Railroad and the Southern Railway. It was located at 1200 Sixth Avenue, directly north of 12th Street, Columbus.By 1932 Seaboard Air Line passenger trains stopped calling at the station, as the road's operations through Columbus became freight-only. The SAL previously had run passenger trains to Richland, then to Albany.

Rose Hill Heights is a neighborhood east of the central business district of Downtown Columbus, Georgia, United States. The boundaries are generally acknowledged to be 20th Street the north, Warm Springs Road to the south, Woodruff Road to the west and Hamilton Road to the east.
