Northwest Park is a municipally owned park in the town of Windsor, Connecticut, which includes walking trails, soccer fields and a nature center. Located in the Poquonock section of Windsor along the Farmington River, the park covers 473 acres (1.91 km2) of forests, fields and recreational areas. The Luddy/Taylor Connecticut Valley Tobacco Museum, dedicated to preserving the history of the tobacco industry in the lower Connecticut River valley, is located near the entrance of the park. The Northwest Park Nature Center features natural history, geology and meteorology exhibits, and offers nature and environmental education programs including a summer camp. There is an adjacent barn with farmyard animals.The park hosts an annual Coffeehouse Concert Series, bringing in a variety of regional and national acts to perform in an intimate setting. Additionally, a country fair annually takes place in the fall at the park. Other park amenities are trails for hiking, cross-country and skiing, a maple sugar house, a playground, picnic facilities, and a gift shop in the nature center.

The Metropolitan Learning Center (MLC) is a magnet school that is based in Bloomfield, Connecticut. The school is part of the Capitol Region Education Council.

Kaman Corporation is an American aerospace company, with headquarters in Bloomfield, Connecticut. It was founded in 1945 by Charles Kaman. During the first ten years the company operated exclusively as a designer and manufacturer of several helicopters that set world records and achieved many aviation firsts. In 1956, Kaman began to diversify as an aerospace subcontractor of McDonnell Douglas, Grumman, and others. In the mid-1960s Kaman diversified outside of the aerospace industry, using the expertise Kaman had gained in composite materials and the end of the need for skilled woodworkers to craft wooden rotor blades. Charles Kaman, a guitarist as well as an aerospace pioneer, worked with his engineers and other musicians to create the round-backed, composite-body Ovation guitar, which led to the eventual creation of Kaman Music (now KMCMusicorp). Kaman Music was an independent distributor of musical instruments and accessories, and a major producer of guitars and guitar parts and accessories.

The Benomi Case House is a historic house at 436 Rainbow Road in Windsor, Connecticut. Built in 1834, it is one of the town's finest examples of Greek Revival architecture in brick. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.

The Eli Phelps House is a historic house at 18 Marshall Phelps Road in Windsor, Connecticut. Built about 1860, it is one of the town's largest and most elaborate examples of Italianate architecture executed in brick. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.

The Whitfield Cowles House is a historic house at 118 Spoonville Road in East Granby, Connecticut. Built about 1785, it was home to one of the early innovators in the development of silver plating, and was (as of the 2010s) still owned by Cowles descendants. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.

Bloomfield is a suburb of Hartford in the Capitol Planning Region, Connecticut, United States. The town's population was 21,535 at the 2020 census. Bloomfield is best known as the headquarters of healthcare services company Cigna.

East Granby High School is a public high school located in East Granby, Connecticut. The school has a grade range of 9–12. The total enrollment currently stands at 241. East Granby High School is the smallest public high school in Connecticut. The East Granby school district is located in north central Connecticut in close proximity to Bradley International Airport. East Granby provides a comprehensive education to 900 students in four distinctive school settings. Classified by the Connecticut State Department of Education as a town in Demographic Reference Group "D", East Granby performs well on state assessments at all levels. Demographic Reference Groups, or DRGs, are groups of districts with similarities in student and family background characteristics. Placement in one of the nine DRGs is based on indicators of socioeconomic status, indicators of need and enrollment. The building is connected to East Granby Middle School, and some of the teachers and classrooms are shared.

On October 2, 2019, a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress owned by the Collings Foundation crashed at Bradley International Airport, Windsor Locks, Connecticut, United States. Seven of the thirteen people on board were killed, and the other six, as well as one person on the ground, were injured. The aircraft was destroyed by fire, with only the tail and a portion of one wing remaining.

Hatchett Hill, est. 510 feet (160 m), is a trap rock ridge located in East Granby, Connecticut, 11 miles (18 km) northeast of Hartford, Connecticut. It is part of the narrow, linear Metacomet Ridge that extends from Long Island Sound near New Haven, Connecticut, north through the Connecticut River Valley of Massachusetts to the Vermont border. The southern edge of the ridge plunges nearly 200 vertical feet (61 m) into the Tariffville Gorge. The ridge is known for its rugged topography, unique microclimate ecosystems, rare plant communities, and as a seasonal raptor migration path. It is traversed by the 51-mile (82 km) Metacomet Trail.
