Bevergern Castle (German: Burg Bevergern) is a Burgstall, or a castle of which little remains, in the present centre of the farming village of Bevergern within the borough of Hörstel in the Westphalian region of Tecklenburg Land in the county of Steinfurt. It was blown up in 1680 by Ferdinand II of Fürstenberg, Bishop of Münster.

The Dortmund–Ems Canal is a 269-kilometre (167 mi) long canal in Germany between the inland port of the city of Dortmund (51°31′30″N 7°26′40″E) and the seaport of Emden. The artificial southern part of the canal ends after 215 kilometres (134 mi) at Herbrum lock near Meppen. The route then takes the river Ems for 45 kilometres (28 mi) to Oldersum lock. From there, the canal continues along a second artificial segment of 9 kilometres (6 mi). This latter section was built because inland ships at the time of the construction of the canal were not built for the open sea, which they would have faced at the Dollart and the entry to the sea port of Emden. It is connected to the Ems-Jade Canal from Emden to Wilhelmshaven.

Prior to 1975, Elte was, with approximately 1,300 residents, a self-standing, political community under the authorities of Rheine. On 1 January 1975, Elte became integrated with other communities within the town of Rheine, 9 km from the centre of Rheine town. Elte still has character of a rural location situated between Emsaue and the countryside. It is now officially named Rheine-Elte. The name "Elte" is first mentioned in a document from the year 1154. In the "Codex traditionum", which is kept in the State Archives in Münster, is in Volume VI page 181 read: Bishop Werner of Münster founded in 1140 an Augustinian monastery in Asbeck. The noble Eppo of Burgsteinfurt gave this monastery two mansions (farms), located in parochia Rene in villa quae "Elethe'dicitur". The linguists interpret all place and field names ending in èthè and èdè as heathlands. The vernacular then gave the village the name "Elte" over time.

Ibbenbüren-Esch (German: Bahnhof Ibbenbüren-Esch) is a railway station located in Püsselbüren, a village of Ibbenbüren, Germany. The station was opened on 1 August 1889 is located on the Löhne–Rheine line. The train services are operated by WestfalenBahn. Until 2004 the station was known as Esch (Westf).

Mesum is a village south of Rheine, located in the district Steinfurt, part of North Rhine-Westphalia. The current population in 2004 is about 8500. Mesum was first mentioned in 1373 in a document listing the church. That old church still exists as the oldest building of the village. The village grew in the 19th century with the textile industry. At that time, it was part of the Prussian Kingdom.

Rheine-Hopsten Air Base is a former German Air Force military airfield, located 9.3 km north east of Rheine in Westphalia, Germany. The runway was closed in 2005 with the retirement of the F-4F Phantom II aircraft.
