Penrith Castle

Penrith North Lakes (also shortened to Penrith) is a railway station on the West Coast Main Line, which runs between London Euston and Edinburgh Waverley or Glasgow Central. The station, situated 17 miles 69 chains (28.7 km) south of Carlisle, serves the market town of Penrith, Westmorland and Furness in Cumbria, England. It is owned by Network Rail and managed by Avanti West Coast.

Queen Elizabeth Grammar School (QEGS) is a coeducational selective grammar school in Penrith, Cumbria, England. The school currently has approximately 830 pupils. The current headteacher is David Marchant, who took over in September 2022. The headteacher from September 2004 to August 2015 was Chris Kirkup who was seceded by Paul Buckland from September 2016.Each year group is split on to five forms that have usually 32 students each. Each form is identified by the academic year followed by the initials of the form tutor who is usually a teacher at the school (i.e. 7JB). Students are also divided into one of the school's four houses; Blencow, Strickland, Lowther and Tudor, which are mainly used for sport events.

Penrith (, PEN-rith, pen-RITH) is a market town and civil parish in the Westmorland and Furness district of Cumbria, England. It is less than 3 miles (5 km) outside the Lake District National Park and about 17 miles (27 km) south of Carlisle. It is between the Rivers Petteril and Eamont and just north of the River Lowther. The town had a population of 15,181 at the 2011 census. It is part of historic Cumberland. From 1974 to 2015, it was an unparished area with no local council. A civil parish was reintroduced on 1 April 2015 with the first election for Penrith Town Council on 7 May 2015. The town was previously part of the 1974-created Eden District until 2023.

Penrith Town Hall is a municipal building in Corney Square, Penrith, Cumbria, England. The structure, which was the headquarters of Eden District Council, is a Grade II listed building.

Eden was a local government district in Cumbria, England, based at Penrith Town Hall in Penrith. It was named after the River Eden, which flows north through the district toward Carlisle. Its population of 49,777 at the 2001 census, increased to 52,564 at the 2011 Census. A 2019 estimate was 53,253. In July 2021 it was announced that, in April 2023, Cumbria would be divided into two unitary authorities. On 1 April 2023, Eden District Council was abolished and its functions transferred to the new authority Westmorland and Furness, which also covers the former districts of Barrow-in-Furness and South Lakeland.

Eden FM is a community radio station serving Penrith and the Eden Valley in Cumbria. The station is based in Newton Rigg, Newton Road, Penrith, Cumbria. The station founder was Lee Quinn, who was also the founder of Meridian FM Community Radio in East Grinstead, Sussex. The campaign for a local station was launched in June 2010 by Lee Quinn, through launching a community magazine, the Eden Local, which was posted through doors in Penrith and the Eden Valley. The first Eden FM studios were switched on 10am Friday 25th November 2011.Run by volunteers, the non-profit organisation, applied to Ofcom for a full-time community radio licence on an FM frequency in the community radio licensing: third round for the North East of England and Cumbria.Currently broadcasting full-time online and on 107.5 FM, the station completed three 28-day restricted service licence broadcasts in November to December 2011, followed by a couple more in June to July 2012 and November to December 2012.Eden FM submitted an application for a full-time licence in January 2013 and was awarded a 5-year licence in October of that year.To celebrate the launch of the station full-time, Eden FM Radio Ltd, raised the funds to have a bespoke Penrith and Eden Valley Monopoly Board game produced, which reflected on the local towns and villages covered by Eden FM Radio include Penrith, Appleby-in-Westmorland, Langwathby, Greystoke, Shap, Skelton and Melmerby. Eden FM Radio's community licence was renewed for a further five years in 2019 to 2024.

St Andrew's Church is in the centre of the town of Penrith, Cumbria, England. It is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Penrith, the archdeaconry of Carlisle, and the diocese of Carlisle. The parishes of Penrith (St Andrew's and Christ Church); St John, Newton Reigny and St John the Evangelist, Plumpton Wall are united in a single benefice . The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building. At one time St Andrew's had a chapel of ease or mission church in Brougham Street in the Penrith suburb of Castletown called St Saviours and another, All Hallows at the hamlet of Bowscar just to the north of the town.

Penrith and Eden Museum is a museum in Penrith, Cumbria, England. The museum aims to collect, preserve and display material reflecting the history and culture of Penrith and Eden. The museum is owned and managed by Eden District Council. The museum is based in a former school building, known as Robinson's School, which first opened in 1670.

Ullswater Community College (UCC) is a large mixed comprehensive school in Penrith, Cumbria. It currently has around 1520 students, including about 200 in the sixth form. The School was formed under the name of Ullswater High School in 1980, when Tynefield (girls) and Ullswater (boys) secondary modern schools merged. The school still has two sets of all facilities (two halls, two gyms, two kitchens) and there is still the 'mixed yard' in the middle of the school. The two main blocks of the school consist of the former schools, now renamed Cumberland block and Westmorland block, named after the historic counties Cumberland and Westmorland that became Cumbria in 1974. Along with Eamont Block for students with learning disabilities, Eden Block, Resources and Rural Science blocks The character of the school comes from two main factors. The first is its enormous catchment area, one of the largest in England at around 600 square miles. The second is the existence of its neighbour and great rival, Queen Elizabeth Grammar School ('QEGS'). QEGS is a selective school. Mr David Robinson served as headmaster until April 2004, then the school was led by Mr Stewart Gimber as the Headteacher. Ullswater had a ‘good’ inspection in 2006, but in 2009, it was given a ‘notice to improve’ by Ofsted. In September 2009, Mr Nigel Pattinson took over the role as Headteacher. Ullswater is a Business and Enterprise College, and has many links with the local community through enterprise projects. The school also had a large adult or further education centre. In January 2011, construction of a new training centre began, and was completed in September 2011. The new "Applied Learning Centre" was opened on 29 November 2011, by The Duke of Gloucester. In May 2012, controversy arose as Nigel Pattinson, the Headteacher, was given a pay rise at a time when the school was making staff redundant, and was short of money. The governors defended their actions saying that the rise was due to the school meeting the targets that they had set for Mr Pattinson. However, in the Cumberland & Westmorland Herald, one reader pointed out that if Mr Pattinson had met the targets then he had obviously done so with the assistance of other staff. In March 2016, The Prince of Wales visited the college to look at the work done in applied subjects, such as Construction, Motor Vehicle and Hair and Beauty. GCSE Results 2012 – Overall, 95.5% of students at the college – which was rated by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT) as ‘most improved secondary school in the North West’ in 2010 – gained five or more A*–C grades, compared with last year's 92%. Over the last 3 years, the college has improved its results from 54% in 2009 to the current figure of 95.5%. Mr Pattinson left in 2017, succeeded by Mr Nick Ellery, who had worked at the school for many years. Mr Ellery retired in 2019, when Mr Stephen Gilby took over as Headteacher. Mayburgh Henge is a large prehistoric monument in the county of Cumbria in northern England. The henge is in the care of English Heritage and is a Scheduled Ancient Monument. It is 400 metres from King Arthur's Round Table Henge.
