Aarburg Castle

The Aarewaage (in local Swiss German dialect: Woog) is a whirlpool phenomenon in the Swiss river Aare at Aarburg, canton of Aargau. In 1996, it was added to the Federal Inventory of Landscapes and Natural Monuments.At the location of the Aarewaage, the river widens into a broader natural basin and at the same time meets a rock on which Aarburg Castle is located. The large whirlpool, the "Waage", is created by the main current of the Aare passing by calmer water in the basin, increasing its water level in cycles, further increased by part of the current being diverted by the castle rock and the influx of the two streams Tych and Dorfbach.Several times, the existence or appearance of the Aarewaage was threatened by planned construction work. In the 1950s, an expansion of the Ruppoldingen hydroelectric power station that wasn't carried out would have destroyed the basin. In the 1970s, a railway bridge was planned at the Aarewaage, but due to landscape preservation concerns, a tunnel was constructed instead.In December 2013, a part of the side wall at the Aarewage collapsed. The wall, which itself is a protected monument, was restored from April to May 2014.

Aarburg is a historic town and a municipality in the district of Zofingen in the canton of Aargau in Switzerland. The small town lies in the southwest Aargau, in a narrow section of the Aare valley, at the confluence with the Wigger. It lies in the intersection of the most important traffic routes of Switzerland. The dominant landmark is the Aarburg Castle, one of Switzerland's largest castles and a heritage site of national significance. The visual character of Aarburg is shaped by the fortification and the church on a rock spur. The official language of Aarburg is (the Swiss variety of Standard) German, but the main spoken language is the local variant of the Alemannic Swiss German dialect.

Aarburg-Oftringen railway station (German: Bahnhof Aarburg-Oftringen) is a railway station in the municipality of Aarburg, in the Swiss canton of Aargau. It is located at the junction of the standard gauge Olten–Bern and Olten–Lucerne lines of Swiss Federal Railways.

The Wigger (formerly also called Wiggeren) is a river in the Swiss cantons of Lucerne and Aargau. It is an important tributary of the river Aare. The Wigger is around 41 kilometers long and flows from south to north for most of its length. The largest city in the Wigger valley is Zofingen. The river rises from the north slope of the Napf in the canton of Lucerne near the border to the canton of Berne in a height of about 1300 meters. There it is called Enziwigger. It flows through a narrow valley towards Hergiswil bei Willisau where the valley widens and flattens. Shortly after the small city of Willisau it joins with the Buchwigger and is called just Wigger from there. The valley widens further to a flat and broad plain. North of Dagmersellen the Wigger is mostly restricted to a canal bed and flows partially parallel to the A2 motorway. Between Reiden and Brittnau it crosses the border to Aargau. It flows into the Aar between Rothrist and Aarburg at a height of 395 meters. Tributaries of the Wigger are the Seewag, the Wanger-Rot, the Ron, the Luthern and the Hürnbach. In 1821 the Wigger's course was corrected (channelized) by order of the government of the canton of Aargau. Until the second half of the 19th century the area of the Wigger's confluence with the Aar was a location of placer mining for gold, but this stopped due to dissatisfactory yield.

The Kleinholz Stadion is an ice hockey stadium located in Olten, Switzerland. It is mainly used by EHC Olten, an ice hockey club that currently plays in the Swiss National League B. It was built in 1961 and renovated in 2014.

Rothrist railway station (German: Bahnhof Rothrist) is a railway station in the municipality of Rothrist, in the Swiss canton of Aargau. It is an intermediate stop on the standard gauge Olten–Bern line of Swiss Federal Railways. The high-speed Mattstetten–Rothrist new line diverges west of the station but no trains calling at Rothrist use it.

Olten railway station (German: Bahnhof Olten) is a major hub railway station in the canton of Solothurn, Switzerland, at the junction of lines to Zürich, Bern, Basel, Lucerne and Biel. As a result, Olten is a railway town and was also the site of the main workshop of the Swiss Central Railway (German: Schweizerische Centralbahn), which became a major workshop for the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB CFF FFS). It is the southern terminus of the Basel Regional S-Bahn S3 and S9 lines, the northern terminus of the Lucerne S-Bahn S8 line, and the western terminus of the Aargau S-Bahn S26 line. Although Olten only has 18,000 inhabitants, the station is used each day by about 80,000 passengers and is one of the 10 busiest in Switzerland, busier than even Geneva. It serves 1,100 trains a day, making it one of the busiest in Switzerland.
