It is east of Chestnut Ridge, south of Nanuet, west of Blauvelt, New York, and north of Montvale and Old Tappan, New Jersey. The population was 15,876 at the 2010 census.Pearl River is 20 miles (32 km) north of midtown Manhattan and just north of the New Jersey border. It is the first (traveling north) of three New York stops on New Jersey Transit's Pascack Valley Line.

The U.S. Post Office in Pearl River, New York, is located at the junction of Franklin and Main streets in the hamlet's downtown. It is a brick building from the mid-1930s, serving the ZIP Code 10965, which covers the hamlet of Pearl River. Its design, an application of the Colonial Revival architectural style commonly used for post offices of that era, is unique to it. It shows a strong modernist influence, with almost no ornament on its exterior, and no public art inside. In 1988 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places with many other contemporary post offices in the state, including four others in Rockland County. Congress renamed the building the Heinz Ahlmeyer, Jr. Post Office Building in 2005, in honor of a local soldier missing in action and presumed dead during the Vietnam War until that year, when his remains were identified.

Pearl River is a railroad station in Pearl River, New York. It serves NJ Transit and Metro-North Railroad trains on the Pascack Valley Line. It is located at 35 South Main Street between West Central Avenue and Jefferson Avenue. Pearl River is the last station in New York, heading from Spring Valley towards Hoboken Terminal.

Saint Margaret School is a pre-Kindergarten through 8th-grade Elementary Catholic School in Pearl River, New York. It has been serving Rockland County's school districts since 1953. The school is known for its music program; students performed at the Lincoln Center in 2009.

Montvale is an active commuter railroad station in the borough of Montvale, Bergen County, New Jersey. Located in the middle of an active road junction of East Grand Avenue (County Route 94) and Kinderkamack Road (County Route 503), the station serves trains on New Jersey Transit's Pascack Valley Line, serving as the first/last stop in New Jersey. The station consists of one low-level side platform with a mini-high-level platform to service handicapped customers under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.

The Jacob P. Perry House is a historic home on Sickletown Road in Pearl River, New York, United States. It was constructed around the end of the 18th century, one of the last houses in Rockland County to have been built in the Dutch Colonial style more common before the Revolution. It is a stone structure with a detailed period interior. A later owner renovated it during the 1930s, and an addition was built onto it in the late 1970s. There are several other buildings and structures on the property, the remnant of a former farm. In 2003 the house and an adjacent well and wellhouse were listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Michael Salyer Stone House is located on Blue Hill Road (Rockland County Route 23) in Orangetown, New York, United States. It was built in the late 18th century. Unusually for Rockland County, its gambrel roof has clapboard siding in the upper gable apexes, a feature normally found farther north, in Colonial stone houses in Ulster County. It is possible that this may be due to Huguenot influence. In 2002, it and its well were listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Today it serves as a local historical museum.

Lake Tappan is a reservoir impounded by the Tappan Dam on the Hackensack River, straddling the border between the U.S. states of New Jersey and New York.: 221–223  Within New Jersey, the lake traverses the border separating the municipalities of River Vale and Old Tappan in Bergen County, while extending northward across the New York state line into the town of Orangetown in Rockand County. The reservoir was formed in 1967, flooding areas that included the former CAPROC Field Civil Air Patrol airstrip.The Lake Tappan reservoir covers 1,255 acres (5.1 km²),: 222  the majority of its area being within New Jersey, and it contains 3.5 billion US gallons (13,000,000 m3) of water, with up to 12 to 13 million US gallons (45,000 to 49,000 m3) released downstream daily into the Oradell Reservoir, which lies entirely within Bergen County in New Jersey. The passage of this water between reservoirs can occur in as rapidly as two to three hours. Lake Tappan has an average depth of 21' with a maximum depth of 43'.On March 11, 2003, New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey visited the reservoir and proposed protecting it as well as the nearby Woodcliff Lake Reservoir and their tributaries with Category 1 water purity status.The reservoir is owned by Suez North America, a private utility. Lake Tappan is a local fishing spot as well, serving as a habitat for bluegill, bass, perch, catfish and carp.

William Holdrum House is located in River Vale, Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The house was built in 1763 by William Holdrum and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 10, 1983.

Park Ridge is an active commuter railroad station in the borough of Park Ridge, Bergen County, New Jersey. Located at the intersection of Park and Hawthorne Avenues, the station services trains on the Pascack Valley Line, which runs from Hoboken Terminal to Spring Valley station in New York. The station contains a single low-level side platform split by Park Avenue (County Route 92) and a wooden station depot, built by the Hackensack and New York Extension Railroad. As a result, Park Ridge station is not handicap accessible under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. Railroad service through Park Ridge began on May 27, 1871 with the final extension of the Hackensack and New York Extension Railroad from Hillsdale station in New Jersey to the junction with the Erie Railroad Piermont Branch at Nanuet. However, in order to establish a stop in Park Ridge, the railroad requested Washington Township residents fund the construction of a new depot.
