Porta Vittoria

The Monument to the Five Days of Milan (Italian: Monumento alle Cinque Giornate di Milano) is a monument comprising a bronze obelisk and sculptures on a plinth located in the center of Piazza Cinque Giornate in Milan, Italy. The monument was created by Italian sculptor Giuseppe Grandi and inaugurated in 1895 to commemorate the Five Days of Milan, a rebellion of 18–22 March 1848 which caused the Austrian army to withdraw from Milan. In this site, once rose the Porta Vittoria (formerly Porta Tosa), the eastern gate in the Medieval Spanish Walls of Milan, whose capture by the rebellion prompted the Austrians to abandon the city.

The Rotonda della Besana (also known as Rotonda di Via Besana or Complesso di San Michele ai Nuovi Sepolcri, and originally as Foppone della Ca' Granda) is a late baroque building complex and former cemetery in Milan, Italy, built between 1695 and 1732 and located close to the city center. The complex comprises a lobate hectagonal colonnade portico enclosing a garden and the deconsacrated church of San Michele ai Sepolcri ("Saint Michael by the Sepulchers"). The portico was designed by architects Francesco Croce and Carlo Raffaello Raffagno, while the church was designed by Attilio Arrigoni. Although originally a cemetery, over time the Rotonda has been adapted for a number of other uses; today, it is a leisure area and a venue for cultural events. The complex covers an overall area of 7,100 m2 and owes its current name to its location, at number 15 of Via Enrico Besana.

Casa Campanini ("House Campanini") is an art nouveau building in Milan, Italy, located at 11, Via Bellini. It was completed between 1903 and 1906 by architect Alfredo Campanini, who later inhabited the building.A main visual feature of the buildings are the concrete caryatids, located at its main entrance, by the sculptor Michele Vedani, which represent a reference to those of Palazzo Castiglioni (by architect Giuseppe Sommaruga), another art nouveau building in Milan. The wrought iron gate, designed by Campanini and created by Alessandro Mazzucotelli, is decorated with flower patterns; similar decorations are also found in the internal lift cage, also in iron.The interior of the palace has a number of polychrome glasses, friezes, and frescos, all in an art nouveau style; some of the inner rooms still house the original furniture and pottery. Decorations, representing cherries, are found on the ceiling of the internal yard.

The Bava Beccaris massacre, named after the Italian General Fiorenzo Bava Beccaris, was the repression of widespread food riots in Milan, Italy, on 6–10 May 1898. In Italy the suppression of these demonstrations is also known as Fatti di Maggio (Events of May) or I moti di Milano del 1898 (the Milan riots of 1898). At least 80 demonstrators were killed, as well as two soldiers, and 450 wounded, according to government sources. The overreaction of the military led to the demise of Antonio Di Rudinì and his government in July 1898 and created a constitutional crisis, strengthening the opposition. The events of May marked a height of popular discontent with government, the military and the monarchy.

Porta Monforte is a district ("quartiere") of Milan, Italy, located within the Zone 3 administrative division. It is named after the eponymous city gate, which was added in the 1890s to the existing Spanish walls of the city. The gate was meant to serve as a customs office; the tax booths were designed by Luigi Tormenti and completed in 1889. While the addition of the Monforte city gate was intended to absorb part of the traffic going through Porta Venezia and Porta Vittoria, Porta Monforte remained a minor gate. The gate itself has since been demolished; it was located in what is now Piazza del Tricolore ("Tricolour Square").Porta Monforte was the scene of some of the most dramatic events in the Milan riots of 1898, when the Italian army's artillery bombed a local monastery, killing hundreds of beggars that were standing in line to receive assistance and food.
