Marburn Academy is a non-profit independent day school for students in grades 1–12 school in New Albany, Ohio. The school was created in 1981 as an alternative for gifted students who have ADHD or dyslexia. The school is one of 18 accredited Orton-Gillingham schools in the United States.In January 2017, Marburn Academy moved from Forest Park East, Columbus, to a new location at 9555 Johnstown Road, New Albany, Ohio 43054.

Northland High School (NHS) is a public high school in Columbus, Ohio, United States, NHS is a part of the Columbus City Schools system and opened in 1965. The current principal is Jason Johnson and athletic teams are known as the Vikings with school colors of green and gold.

Ohio Institute of Health Careers, with campus locations in Columbus and Elyria, Ohio, provides students with training in the healthcare field. Originally established in Columbus in 1966, the Elyria campus opened in 2003. Ohio Institute of Health Careers is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT) and offers career training in the areas of medical assisting, dental assisting, massage therapy and medical administration.

Northland Mall was a shopping mall located on the north side of Columbus, Ohio, at the intersection of Morse Road and Karl Road. It opened in 1964 as an open-air shopping center. Northland was the first of the four directionally-named shopping hubs in Columbus, along with Eastland (1967), Westland (1969) and Southland (1975) [a small strip center, now closed]. Though popular through the 1990s, three new shopping centers were completed in the late 1990s and early 2000s that took businesses and shoppers away from Northland. It closed in 2002 and was demolished in 2004. The site has subsequently been redeveloped as Northland Village, a multi-use complex containing government offices, retail stores and the Franklin County Dog Shelter and Adoption Center.

Beechcroft High School is a four-year high school (grades 9-12) located on the north side of Columbus, Ohio. It is a part of Columbus City Schools. Beechcroft was first opened in 1976 as a six-year junior/senior high school. At that time, school enrollment peaked at 1,200+ students. Current enrollment is 950 students. Beechcroft is known to some as "Da Croft". The school colors are Gold and Brown. The school nickname is the Cougars. They compete in the Columbus City League with league rival Northland High School.

St. Francis DeSales High School is located in Columbus, Ohio, United States and is part of the Catholic Diocese of Columbus. The school has an enrollment of over 875 students, in four grade levels.

Horizon Science Academy High School (HSA HS) is a grades 9–12 public charter school managed by Concept Schools. It is located in Columbus, Ohio, United States.

Brookhaven High School was a public high school located on the northeast side of Columbus, Ohio, United States. The school was a part of the Columbus City Schools system and opened in 1963. The school colors were navy blue and gold and the school nickname was the Bearcats. Since 2004, the school had been participating in the Small schools movement. Brookhaven was divided into three small schools: Leadership, North Star, and Legacy. Plans for creating a middle school were announced many years before its closing but were never finalized. After a decision made by the Columbus City Schools District, they announced that Brookhaven would be shut down by the end of the 2013-14 year due to declining population. With it, five elementary schools were closed as well. On May 29, 2014, Brookhaven closed its doors for the last time due to a failed levy. The building is now used by Columbus Global Academy.

Columbus Global Academy, commonly referred to as CGA, is a public school located in Columbus, Ohio. It is part of the Columbus City Schools district. The school opened in 2008, but the Columbus City Schools ESL program from which it was formed was founded in 1999. Its purpose is to educate immigrant students e.g. students who are new to the U.S.

On December 8, 2004, four people were murdered and three others were wounded in a mass shooting at the Alrosa Villa nightclub in Columbus, Ohio. The main target of the attack was "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, who was on stage performing with his band Damageplan at the time of the shooting. Three minutes after opening fire, the perpetrator, 25-year-old Nathan Gale, was shot and killed by police officer James Niggemeyer. Abbott sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene. The other victims were Jeffrey "Mayhem" Thompson, Damageplan's head of security who tackled Gale; Erin Halk, an Alrosa employee who tried to restrain Gale; and 23-year-old Damageplan fan Nathan Bray, who had jumped onto the stage in order to resuscitate Abbott and Thompson. Tour manager Chris Paluksa and drum technician John Brooks were both taken to Riverside Methodist Hospital, while road crew member Travis Burnett was treated at the scene. The cause for the shooting is still unknown. Gale, a former member of the United States Marine Corps, had told his mother and employer that he had been discharged due to paranoid schizophrenia, and many of his friends observed erratic behavior from Gale in the months leading up to the shooting. Some news outlets claimed that Gale was angry with Abbott for the dissolution of his previous band Pantera, while others believed that Gale was operating under the delusion that Pantera had plagiarized his lyrics and were attempting to steal his identity. A number of heavy metal artists released tributes to Abbott after his death, while others pushed for increased security at concerts to prevent another such incident. Niggemeyer was valorized for his action, but retired from the police department in 2011 with post-traumatic stress disorder. Abbott's brother and Pantera drummer Vinnie Paul resented singer Phil Anselmo for his perceived role in the shooting, and remained distant from the other members of the band until his death in 2018.
