People's African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church is a historic African Methodist Episcopal Zion church located in Downtown Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York. It was designed by architect Charles Erastus Colton and Wallace Rayfield and built in 1911. It is a small Gothic Revival style stuccoed brick building. It sits on a cut limestone foundation and measures approximately 25 feet wide and 50 feet deep. It has a two-story projecting front gable and features a three-story bell tower topped by a pyramidal roof. The congregation was incorporated in 1837 and remained at this location until 1976.: 5, 9, 33 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.

The Hawley–Green Historical District is in the Near Northeast neighborhood of Syracuse, New York, United States. The name comes from the district's two principal streets, Hawley Avenue and Green Street. As Hawley–Green Street Historic District, the district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. In 2018 its boundaries were increased to include a number of adjacent streets with similarly styled buildings.

Forman Park, in Syracuse, New York, was first established on June 16, 1839 and was known as Forman Square. The main attraction is a bronze memorial of early civic leaders, Joshua Forman and Lewis H. Redfield. The park was established by the Forman Park Trustees of the village of Syracuse.

The New Kasson Apartments is a historic apartment building located on James Street in the Near Northeast neighborhood of Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York. It was designed by architectural firm of Merrick and Randall and built in 1898. It is a seven-story, Renaissance Revival style building consisting of two rectangular multi-story blocks. It is a yellow brick and limestone building with cast stone and terra cotta details. The facades features projecting three-sided bays extending from the first through fifth floors. It is located across from the Leavenworth Apartments built in 1912.: 3 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.

Jill-Lyn Euto (March 20, 1982 – January 28, 2001) was an American woman who was found murdered in her apartment in Syracuse, New York, in 2001. Euto had made plans with her mother and sister to watch Super Bowl XXXV at their house elsewhere in the city. When Euto did not show up at their house or respond to phone calls the next day, her mother and sister went to her apartment, where they found her stabbed to death with a knife from her own kitchen. The murder remains unsolved. While suspects have been considered and surveilled by police, no one has ever been publicly named by authorities.

It was designed by architect Charles Erastus Colton and built in 1912. It is a seven-story, Colonial Revival style asymmetrical building in six sections. It is a steel frame and masonry building with cast stone details. The building features stepped gable ends. It is located across from the New Kasson Apartments built in 1898.: 3 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.

The Hamilton White House is a historic home in Syracuse, New York. The house, Greek Revival in design, was built by and for Hamilton White, circa 1840/42, and occupied by his family in 1842/43. Many believe based on similarities in structure and style that the unknown architect and builder was the same person who designed and built the Moses Burnett House, completed in early 1842, later to become the Syracuse Century Club building. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973 due to its significance in the area of architecture and its relationship, through Hamilton White, to the commerce and politics of Syracuse.

With a population of 148,620 and a metropolitan area of 662,057, it is the fifth-most populated city and 13th-most populated municipality in the state of New York.Formally established in 1820, Syracuse was named after the classical Greek city Syracuse (Siracusa in Italian), a city on the eastern coast of the Italian island of Sicily, for its similar natural features. It has historically functioned as a major crossroads, first between the Erie Canal and its branch canals, then of the railway network. Today, the city is at the intersection of Interstates 81 and 90, and its airport is the largest in Central New York, a five-county region of over one million inhabitants. Syracuse is the economic and educational hub of Central New York. It hosts a number of convention sites, including a large downtown convention complex, and is home to prominent institutions such as Syracuse University, SUNY Upstate Medical University, SUNY ESF, and Le Moyne College.

The SUNY Eye Institute (SEI) is a consortium of scientists from five campuses within the State University of New York. Participating institutions include four SUNY medical schools (Downstate Medical Center, Upstate Medical University, Stony Brook University Medical Center, and the University at Buffalo) and the SUNY College of Optometry. The SEI was organized in 2007 and formally recognized by SUNY in 2009. Its aims are (1) to foster collaboration among SUNY research scientists in support of research on all aspects of visual function, with an emphasis on diseases of the human eye and their treatment, and (2) to enhance training in clinical and basic visual sciences in the U.S. State of New York. It receives financial support from SUNY through the SUNY REACH program.In October 2010 the SEI had 55 member scientists with primary faculty appointments. Scientific research largely overlaps with the mandate of the National Eye Institute (NEI), a part of the National Institutes of Health. The NEI provides the bulk of direct funding for research at the SEI through approximately 40 research grants to individual faculty scientists. The SEI convenes annually in early fall for a two-day scientific meeting. The meeting was held at the College of Optometry in Manhattan in 2009, at the Upstate campus in Syracuse, NY in 2010, at Stony Brook campus in 2011, and at Buffalo campus in 2012. The SEI sponsors pilot projects and hosts several lecture series that are broadcast between member campuses.
