Monte Sobretta

The Sobretta-Gavia Group (German: Sobretta-Gavia-Gruppe, Italian: Gruppo Sobretta-Gavia) is a mountain massif that extends between the upper Veltlin and the upper Valcamonica in the Italian provinces of Sondrio and Brescia.

Valfurva (Lombard: Valforba) is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Sondrio in the Italian region of Lombardy, located about 150 kilometres (93 mi) northeast of Milan and about 50 kilometres (31 mi) northeast of Sondrio, in the Alps. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 2,725 and an area of 215.9 square kilometres (83.4 sq mi).The municipality of Valfurva contains the frazioni (subdivisions, mainly villages and hamlets) Uzza, San Nicolò, Sant'Antonio, San Gottardo, Madonna dei Monti, and Santa Caterina. Valfurva borders the following municipalities: Bormio, Martell, Peio, Ponte di Legno, Sondalo, Stilfs, Valdisotto.

Stelvio is a World Cup downhill piste in northern Italy, considered as second hardest in the world. Located on Vallecetta mountain in Bormio, it debuted at the World Championships in 1985.Widely considered as the second most difficult and scariest downhill course in the world, after the Streif at Kitzbühel, many consider it even as the toughest downhills of all. It hosted two World Championships (1985, 2005), and three World Cup finals (1995, 2000, 2008). Dominik Paris has seven World Cup downhill victories on the Stelvio, a record for a single discipline on one course.

The Giardino Botanico Alpino "Rezia" (1.5 hectares) is a botanical garden specializing in alpine plants, located in the Stelvio National Park at Bormio, Province of Sondrio, Lombardy, northern Italy. The garden was created in 1980 with a primary mission to collect and preserve all plant species in the Stelvio National Park, but also to preserve species from other mountain regions including the Andes, the Himalayas, and the Pyrenees. It is organized as follows: species native to the Parco Nazionale dello Stelvio (1300 species in habitats including detrital areas, pasture and mountain sub-alpine bogs, scrub, etc.); collected species from the Andes, Apennines, Caucasus, Himalayas, Pyrenees, and the Arctic and Antarctic; and a scientific collection organized by genus.

Bormio (Lombard: Bormi, Romansh: , German: Worms im Veltlintal) is a town and comune with a population of about 4,100 located in the Province of Sondrio, Lombardy region of the Alps in northern Italy. The centre of the upper Valtellina valley, it is a popular winter sports resort. It was the site of the Alpine World Ski Championships in 1985 and 2005, and annually hosts the Alpine Ski World Cup. In addition to modern skiing facilities, the town is noted for the presence of several hot springs that have been tapped to provide water to three thermal baths.

The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 1985 were held in Bormio, northern Italy between January 31 and February 10, 1985.These were the first world championships held in an odd-numbered year, and the last without the Super-G event. The World Championships returned to Bormio two decades later in 2005.

The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2005 were held from January 28 to February 13 in Bormio, Italy. The women's competition was held in neighboring Santa Caterina.Bormio previously hosted the World Championships in 1985; other host cities in Italy include Cortina d'Ampezzo (1932, 1941 (unofficial), and 1956 (Winter Olympics)), Val Gardena (1970), and Sestriere (1997). In northern Italy, Bormio is a regular stop on the World Cup circuit, usually for a men's downhill in late December. The Pista Stelvio is among the longest and most challenging downhill courses in the world, with a vertical drop exceeding 1,000 metres (3,280 ft). These were the last World Championships to use the traditional combined (K) format (one downhill run and two slalom runs). Starting in 2007, the world championships switched to the "super-combined" (SC) format (one run each of downhill & slalom) for the combined event. First run on the World Cup circuit in 2005 at Wengen, the "super-combi" format made its debut at the Winter Olympics in 2010.

The Platigliole Glacier was a glacier in the Northern Italian Alps near to the border with Switzerland. It marked the border between Italian Lombardy and the Austro-Hungarian Empire until the First World War, when it was the scene of mountain warfare, during the White War. After the war the Treaty of Saint-Germain-en-Laye granted the glacier to Italy. The glacier fragmented later in the 20th century and by 2021 had largely melted, releasing artefacts from the war.

The Tuckettspitze (Italian: Cima Tuckett; German: Tuckettspitze) is a mountain in the Ortler Alps in South Tyrol, Italy.

Monte Scorluzzo is a summit of the Ortler Alps, located in Lombardy, Italy close to the border to Trentino-Alto Adige and Grisons, Switzerland. It lies within Stelvio National Park, and is known as an "easy three-thousander" as its summit can be reached within a 1.5 hour hike from Stelvio Pass. The mountain was occupied by Austria-Hungary during the White War, and today the remains of the military positions can still be seen.

The Stelvio Pass (Italian: Passo dello Stelvio [ˈpasso dello ˈstɛlvjo, - ˈstelvjo] or Giogo dello Stelvio [ˈdʒoːɡo dello ˈstɛlvjo, - ˈstelvjo]; German: Stilfser Joch [ˈʃtɪlfsɐ ˈjɔx]) is a mountain pass in northern Italy bordering Switzerland at an elevation of 2,757 m (9,045 ft) above sea level. It is the highest paved mountain pass in the Eastern Alps, and the second highest in the Alps, 7 m (23 ft) below France's Col de l'Iseran (2,764 m (9,068 ft)).

Piz da las Trais Linguas (Romansh: [ˈpits dɐ lɐs trajs ˈliŋwɐs] ; German: Dreisprachenspitze; both meaning 'peak of the three languages'; Italian: Cima Garibaldi), is a minor summit of the Ortler Alps, located on the border between Switzerland and Italy. The summit is the tripoint between the Italian regions of Lombardy and South Tyrol and the Swiss canton of Graubünden. Before World War I it was the international tripoint of Switzerland, the Kingdom of Italy and Austria-Hungary. The Romansh and German names refer to the encounter of different linguistic areas in this region. The Italian name refers to Giuseppe Garibaldi, however losing the reference to the meeting of different cultures. On its southern side the mountain overlooks the Stelvio Pass (German: Stilfserjoch).
