De Weyert, Makkinga

Makkinga (West Frisian: Makkingea) is a village in the Dutch municipality of Ooststellingwerf in the province of Friesland. On 1 January 2017, it had 1,040 inhabitants.Makkinga is known among transportation planners and engineers as the first community to introduce the concept of shared space, which means the removal of traffic controls in the high street to encourage safer interaction between vehicles and pedestrians.

Nijeberkoop (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌnɛiəbərˈkoːp]; West Frisian: Nijeberkeap) is a village consisting of about 270 inhabitants in the municipality of Ooststellingwerf in 2017 in the east of Friesland, the Netherlands. The village was first mentioned in 1320 as Oostbrocop, Westbrocop. It used to be two hamlets. Nije (new) was added to distinguish between Oldeberkoop. The etymology of -berkoop is unclear. Nijeberkoop developed in the 13th century as a linear settlement. In 1826, the church was demolished and only the bell tower remained. Nijeberkoop was home to 142 people in 1840.

Donkerbroek is a village in the municipality of Ooststellingwerf, the Netherlands. In 2017, it had a population of around 1,830.

Elsloo (West Frisian: Elslo) is a village consisting of around 600 inhabitants in the municipality of Ooststellingwerf in the east of Friesland in the Netherlands. The hamlets considered part of the village are Tronde and Canada.

Hoornsterzwaag (West Frisian: Hoarnstersweach) is a small village in Heerenveen in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 830 in January 2017.

Zorgvlied is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Westerveld, and lies about 23 km west of Assen. The municipality received its name by the former villa "Zorgvlied".

Langedijke (West Frisian: Langedike) is a village consisting of about 290 inhabitants in the municipality of Ooststellingwerf in 2017 in the east of Friesland, the Netherlands. The village was first mentioned in 1408 as Langedijc, and means "long dike". The church was demolished in 1830, and only a bell tower remained. The bell dates from 1300 and is one of the oldest bells of Frieslands.In 1840, Langedijke was home to 36 people.

Boijl (West Frisian: Boyl) is a village in Weststellingwerf in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 890 in 2017.The village was first mentioned in 1320 as Boilo. The etymology is unclear. The Dutch Reformed church dates from 1641 and has 12th century elements. It does not have a church, but a bell tower from around 1600.Boijl was home to 243 people in 1840.

Wijnjewoude (West Frisian: Wynjewâld) is a village in the municipality of Opsterland in the east of Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 2,025 in January 2017. The villages of Duurswoude and Wijnjeterp were founded in the late Middle Ages next to one-another. After World War II the villages started to expand, and merged into a single village called Wijnjewoude in 1974.

Oosterwolde (West Frisian: Easterwâlde) is the largest town in the municipality of Ooststellingwerf in the east of Friesland, the Netherlands.The town was first mentioned between 1325 and 1336 as "tot Oesterwolde", and means eastern forest. Oosterwolde developed between two brinks (communal pastures). The Dutch Reformed church was built in 1735 as a replacement of a medieval church. It is currently (2023) used as a Bed & Breakfast, advertised as a "true pop-up experience between the pews!"Oosterwolde was home to 548 people in 1840. In 1886, Oosterwolde became the capital of the municipality of Ooststellingwerf. In 1887, Frico (nowadays: FrieslandCampina) opened a dairy factory in the village. The cooperative purchasing agency "Oosterwolde" opened factory in 1915 which is a combination of rational and Jugendstil architecture.

Boschoord is a hamlet in the north-eastern Netherlands. It is located in the municipality of Westerveld, Drenthe. It was first mentioned in 1846 as Kolonie No 7. It was founded as work colony of the Maatschappij van Weldadigheid. In 1907, it was named Boschoord, and Bosch is a reference to Johannes van de Bosch, the founder of Maatschappij van Weldadigheid. Landgoed Boschoord is still owned by the company, and has become a 650 hectares (1,600 acres) nature area which consists of forest and moorland.

Ooststellingwerf (Dutch: [ˈoːststɛlɪŋˌʋɛr(ə)f] ; Stellingwarfs: Ooststellingwarf) is a municipality in the province of Friesland in the northern Netherlands. It is one of the municipalities of Friesland where the spoken language is not West Frisian; instead, Stellingwerfs, a dialect of Dutch Low Saxon, is spoken here.
