"30,000 Pounds Of Bananas," sometimes spelled "Thirty Thousand Pounds Of Bananas," is a folk rock song by Harry Chapin from his 1974 album, Verities & Balderdash. The song became more popular in its live extended recording from Chapin's 1976 concert album, Greatest Stories Live that started the phrase "Harry, it sucks." The song is based on an actual truck accident that occurred in Scranton, Pennsylvania, in 1965.

The University of Scranton is a private Jesuit university in Scranton, Pennsylvania. It was founded in 1888 by William O'Hara, the first Bishop of Scranton, as St. Thomas College. In 1938, the college was elevated to university status and took the name The University of Scranton. The institution was operated by the Diocese of Scranton from its founding until 1897. While the Diocese of Scranton retained ownership of the university, it was administered by the Lasallian Christian Brothers from 1888 to 1942. In 1942, the Society of Jesus took ownership and control of the university. During the 1960s, the university became an independent institution under a lay board of trustees. The university is composed of three colleges that each contain both undergraduate and graduate programs. It offers 65 bachelor's degrees, 29 master's degrees, and 4 doctoral programs.The university enrolls approximately 6,000 graduate and undergraduate students. Most of its students are from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York. In 2016, about 58% of its undergraduate students were women and 42% men. In its graduate programs, about 62% are women students and 38% men. The university has about 300 full-time faculty members, approximately 200 of which are tenured.

Yeshiva Bais Moshe (also referred to as Yeshivath Beth Moshe, Yeshiva Beth Moshe, Scranton Yeshiva, or Milton Eisner Yeshiva High School), is a Haredi Jewish High School and Seminary (Yeshiva) in Scranton, Pennsylvania. It was founded in 1965 by its Roshei HaYeshiva (Deans) - Rabbi Chaim Bressler and Rabbi Yaakov Schnaidman, disciples of the late Rabbi Aaron Kotler, founder and Rosh HaYeshiva of Beth Medrash Govoha in Lakewood, New Jersey. Yeshiva Bais Moshe is an all-male school. It comprises a high school and a collegiate-level seminary Beis Midrash. About 80 students between ages 14 and 18 attend the high school, while about 50 students between the ages of 19 and 23 attend the seminary. While some students are from the local Scranton Jewish community, a majority of students come from across the country to study Talmud at the Scranton Yeshiva. It is a well-known institution with an academically high-level of Talmudic study. While Rabbi Schnaidman and Rabbi Bressler are the principal and Rosh Yeshiva of both Bais Medrash and High School, Rabbi Schnaidman focuses more on the Bais Medrash while Rabbi Bressler focuses on the High School. In 2019 Rabbi Chayim Schnaidman, son of Rabbi Schnaidman, and Rabbi Nachman Pritzker, son-in-law of Rabbi Bressler joined the leadership of the yeshiva as S'gan Roshei Yeshiva.

The Everhart Museum of Natural History, Science & Art is a non-profit art and natural history museum located in Nay Aug Park in Scranton, Pennsylvania, United States. It was founded in 1908 by Dr. Isaiah Fawkes Everhart, a local medical doctor and skilled taxidermist. Many of the specimens in the museum's extensive ornithological collection came from Dr. Everhart's personal collection. In addition to the zoological displays, the permanent collection includes works of visual art (many by Northeastern Pennsylvanian artists), ethnological artifacts, and fossils. Nay Aug Park is the largest park in Scranton, Pennsylvania, United States. An amusement park on the site closed in the 1990s, but a small amusement area still operates near the swimming pool complex. The park also houses the Nay Aug Gorge, the Everhart Museum, and two Olympic-sized swimming pools. At one time it also had a zoo. The name of the park is of Native American origin and means "noisy brook."

The Scranton Iron Furnaces is an historic, American manufacturing site that preserves the heritage of iron making in the U.S. State of Pennsylvania. The site has been managed by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission since 1971 and is part of the Pennsylvania Anthracite Heritage Museum complex. Century Club of Scranton is a historic women's club located at Scranton, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania. It was built in 1913-1914, and is a three-story, rectangular, brick, limestone and wood building in the Colonial Revival-style. It measures 56 feet, 6 inches, by 92 feet, 4 inches, and has a flat roof and three bay symmetrical facade. It features an entry portico supported by groupings of three Doric order columns at the two front corners.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.

Farley's Eatery & Pub was a restaurant in downtown Scranton, Pennsylvania, United States, and was considered a staple of Scrantonian culinary culture. Farley's promoted itself as having "the best steak and seafood in downtown Scranton." Farley's Eatery & Pub closed in 2012 after 30 years of business. At the time it closed, it was described as one of the oldest businesses in downtown Scranton.In recent times, it garnered fame from being mentioned on television series The Office. The series, set in Scranton, made reference to the restaurant in a 2005 episode in which it was suggested that the losers of an office warehouse basketball game would buy the winners dinner from the pub. Actor Steve Carell, who portrays Michael Scott in the NBC sitcom, said in the DVD commentary that he would personally fly to Scranton to "cut the ribbon" if Farley's were to place a "Michael Scott Burger" on their menu. The burger was later added.

The First Church of Christ, Scientist is located in Scranton, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania located at 520 Vine Street. Built in 1915, the building is known for its Classical Revival architecture. Despite its origin as a church, today it is the Lackawanna County Children's Library.
