Mt. Olivet Methodist Church

The Roscoe Hamilton House, on Buena Vista Rd. near Lancaster, Kentucky, is a Greek Revival-style house. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.It is a two-story, five bay central passage plan frame house with brick interior end chimneys. It has a pedimented portico and a one-story ell. It dates from c.1850-1860.

Tom Dorman State Nature Preserve is located in both Garrard and Jessamine county Kentucky and protects a section of the Kentucky River Palisades. The preserve is owned by the Office of Kentucky Nature Preserves, and encompasses 880 acres (3.6 km2) of cliffs, bluffs, and bottomland. In 2007, the Kentucky State Parks announced the purchase of 90 acres (360,000 m2) adjacent to Tom Dorman State Nature Preserve for the creation of the new Palisades State Park, but that property was subsequently incorporated into the State Nature Preserve. The Palisades harbor many rare species for the Bluegrass due to the unusual landscape. The state endangered plants found on Tom Dorman's cliffs are starry cleft phlox (Phlox bifida var. stellaria), Eggleston's violet (Viola egglestonii), and tufted hair-grass (Deschampsia cespitosa); the latter being one of only two populations known in the state. The plants listed as state threatened found here are Kentucky viburnum (Viburnum molle) and False melic (Schizachne purpurascens). The rare Yellowwood tree is also found in this preserve. This preserve is open to the public. It features a strenuous two mile (3 km) loop following an old stage coach route to the river.

The Kentucky River Palisades are a series of steep, scenic gorges and limestone outcroppings that stretch for approximately 100 mi (160 km), along the Kentucky River in central Kentucky in the United States.

Bryantsville is an unincorporated community in Garrard County, Kentucky, United States. It lies along U.S. Route 27 northwest of the city of Lancaster, the county seat of Garrard County. Its elevation is 942 feet (287 m). It has a post office with the ZIP code 40410.

Bryantsville United Methodist Church, formerly known as Bryantsville Methodist Church, is a United Methodist church located in the area named Bryantsville in Garrard County, Kentucky near Lancaster. The Romanesque style building was added to the United States National Register of Historic Places in 1985. The records of this congregation date back at least to 1857, and the present structure was largely completed in 1920.

Hickman Creek is approximately 22 square mile tributary of the Kentucky River. Before flowing into the Kentucky River, Hickman Creek is formed from two separate creeks, East Hickman and West Hickman. West Hickman Creek flows through Fayette County, Kentucky and Jessamine County, Kentucky. Via the Kentucky and Ohio rivers, it is part of the Mississippi River watershed. Hickman Creek flows through 3 parks in Kentucky, Jacobson Park, Veterans Park and Belleau Woods Park. Hickman Creek Conservancy was incorporated on January 1 of 2019 as a 501C3 non-profit organization in response to the community's concern with clean water. The Conservancy works with the city of Lexington's Stormwater Quality Projects Incentive Grant Program to improve water quality and educate citizens in the community. Continuing education about water quality in the Lexington area, the Geocaching Challenge was created as a fun outdoor treasure hunt which visits 12 water-related points of interest. At Highway 1268 near Camp Nelson, the creek has a mean annual discharge of 192 cubic feet per second, from data collected in the years 2008–2015. Hickman Creek is currently ranked #11 of the top 20 best smallmouth bass streams in the state by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. Some of the species of fish in Hickman Creek are smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, rock bass, bluegill, channel catfish, common carp, and spotted gar. The occasional muskellunge can be seen in the Spring months as well.

Herrington Lake is a 2,335-acre (9 km2) artificial lake located in Mercer, Garrard and Boyle counties in Kentucky, United States. The lake was created by Kentucky Utilities' damming of the Dix River, a tributary of the Kentucky River, in 1925 to generate hydroelectric power. With a maximum depth of 249 feet (76 m), Herrington Lake is the deepest lake in Kentucky. A short distance below the dam, the Dix River enters the Kentucky River at High Bridge, Kentucky. Herrington Lake contains many species of fish, including bluegill, catfish, crappie, hybrid striped bass, largemouth bass, spotted bass, and white bass.Dix Dam, the dam that made the lake, was the largest earth-filled dam in the world at the time, and considered to be a major engineering feat. Kentucky Utilities' main dispatch and communication center is located on the site.

In mid-May 1861, U. S. Navy lieutenant William "Bull" Nelson armed Kentuckians loyal to the Union and that soon became the foundation for his receiving authority to enlist 10,000 troops for a campaign into East Tennessee. On August 6, 1861, those recruits marched into Camp Dick Robinson, making it the first Federal base south of the Ohio River. For Col. George C. Kniffen, "the wisdom of President Lincoln commissioning . . . Nelson to organize a military force on the [neutral] soil of Kentucky" prevented making the state a "battle ground for many months" and it thereby changed the whole direction of the war. In 1864, Salmon P. Chase declared in a speech at Louisville "when Kentucky faltered, hesitated" in the early stages of the Civil War, that undecided "status was settled by WILLIAM NELSON, at Camp Dick Robinson." Six years later, Indiana Senator Daniel D. Pratt reported to the U. S. Senate that Camp Dick Robinson "was one of the most noted military encampments of the war. . . . From its admirable locality and advantages, it was almost indispensable for the successful operations of the" Civil War.

Camp Nelson National Cemetery is a United States National Cemetery located in southern Jessamine County, Kentucky. It was originally a graveyard associated with the U.S. Army's Camp Nelson, which was active during the U.S. Civil War and its aftermath. The camp was named for Major General William "Bull" Nelson, commander of the Civil War Army of Kentucky, who was murdered by a fellow officer in 1862.Administered by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, the cemetery encompasses 30.2 acres (12.2 ha), has a capacity for 15,000 graves, and currently contains over 12,000 interments, nearly all of which were, at death, either U.S. Armed Forces personnel on active duty, veterans of the Armed Forces, or their dependent family members. There are 2,452 burials that date to the U.S. Civil War, and of those, 837 are known to be the graves of African-American soldiers. Their gravestone are marked with the letters "USCT" over their names; the designation stands for "United States Colored Troops".

The Dix Dam is a dam on the Dix River located between Mercer and Garrard County, Kentucky. It was constructed to generate hydroelectricity and prevent flooding of the Kentucky River but is better known for creating Herrington Lake.

The E. W. Brown Generating Station is a quad coal-fired power plant, natural gas power plant, solar power plant, and hydro electric plant owned and operated by Kentucky Utilities near Harrodsburg in Mercer County, Kentucky.

Camp Nelson National Monument, formerly the Camp Nelson Civil War Heritage Park, is a 525-acre (2.12 km2) national monument, historical museum and park located in southern Jessamine County, Kentucky, United States, 20 miles (32 km) south of Lexington, Kentucky. The American Civil War era camp was established in 1863 as a depot for the Union Army during the Civil War. It became a recruiting ground for new soldiers from Eastern Tennessee and enslaved people, many of whom had fled their living conditions to be soldiers.On October 26, 2018, President Donald Trump proclaimed the site as Camp Nelson National Monument, the 418th unit of the National Park Service (NPS) system. The Office of Kentucky Nature Preserves' Kentucky Heritage Land Conservation Fund funded the forested portion overlooking Hickman Creek. The American Battlefield Trust and its partners joined forces in 2018 to help preserve more than 380 acres of Camp Nelson.
