The El Paso Intelligence Center (EPIC) was established in 1974 in response to a study by the Justice Management Division of the U.S. Department of Justice entitled, "A Secure Border." Recommendation number 7 of this study suggested the establishment of a southwest border intelligence center to be led by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and staffed by representatives of that agency, as well as the U.S. Customs Service. The initial focus of the Center was to assist in the identification of drug traffickers and alien traffickers along the U.S.-Mexico border. EPIC is now staffed with over 300 personnel and liaison officers from 15 agencies. The current EPIC facility was dedicated on 22 February 1989 in memory of DEA Special Agent Enrique Camarena-Salazar who was slain in the line of duty while conducting an undercover operation in Mexico. Expanded in 1998–1999, EPIC headquarters lies within Biggs Army Airfield at Fort Bliss military reservation in El Paso, Texas and is run jointly by the DEA and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), part of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). In the pre-DHS era, the three main federal agencies at EPIC were DEA, the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) and the U.S. Customs Service.

Burges High School in El Paso, Texas, United States, is a comprehensive high school in the El Paso Independent School District. It is located in the Cielo Vista neighborhood on the near east side of El Paso, north of the large shopping center Cielo Vista Mall and south of El Paso International Airport, and is the only El Paso Independent School District high school in East El Paso.

On August 3, 2019, a mass shooting occurred at a Walmart store in El Paso, Texas, United States. In the terrorist attack, a far-right individual killed 23 people and injured 23 others. The Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting as an act of domestic terrorism and a hate crime. The shooting has been described as the deadliest attack on Latinos in modern American history since the 2016 Orlando nightclub shooting, and is the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history to conclude with a perpetrator being caught alive to face legal repercussions. It is also the second-deadliest mass shooting in Texas history, tied along with the Luby's shooting in 1991 after the Sutherland Springs church shooting in 2017. Patrick Wood Crusius, a 21-year-old from Allen, Texas, was arrested and charged with capital murder in connection with the shooting. Crusius claims to have posted a manifesto with white nationalist and anti-immigrant themes, on the imageboard 8chan shortly before the attack. The manifesto cites the Christchurch mosque shootings earlier that year, and the far-right conspiracy theory known as the Great Replacement, as inspiration for the attack. On February 8, 2023, following an announcement that the Department of Justice would not seek the death penalty, Crusius pleaded guilty to 90 federal murder and hate crime charges.

Cielo Vista Mall is a shopping mall in El Paso, Texas, United States, owned and operated by Simon Property Group. It is located on El Paso's east side, at Interstate 10 and Hawkins Blvd., and features five anchor stores operating under four brand names, and 117 specialty stores. It is the largest of the three malls in the metro area; its former sister Simon property, Sunland Park Mall, is second.With a gross leasable area of 1,244,987 square feet (115,663 m2), the mall is classified as a super-regional mall by the International Council of Shopping Centers.

Patriot Stadium is a soccer-specific stadium located in El Paso, Texas. It was the home stadium of the PDL club, Chivas El Paso Patriots. The stadium replaced Dudley Field. Its capacity is about 3,000.

Joint Task Force North (JTF North), formerly Joint Task Force Six (JTF-6), is a multi-service operation by the United States Department of Defense for counterdrug and anti-terrorist operations. JTF-North is headquartered at Biggs Army Airfield, Fort Bliss, Texas. United States Northern Command is the controlling Unified Combatant Command. On 2 July 2019, acting Commander, COL Paul Garcia, relinquished command to Brigadier General Reginald G. A. Neal. On 06 November 2020, Major General Neal transferred command to Major General Randall V. Simmons, Jr., who is the former commander as of December 14, 2022. Major General Matthew D. Smith assumed command on December 14, 2022, and is the 11th Commander of JTF-N.

Biggs Army Airfield (IATA: BIF, ICAO: KBIF, FAA LID: BIF) (formerly Biggs Air Force Base) is a United States Army military airbase located on the Fort Bliss military base in El Paso, Texas.

Fort Bliss is a United States Army post in New Mexico and Texas, with its headquarters in El Paso, Texas. Named in honor of LTC William Bliss (1815–1853), a mathematics professor who was the son-in-law of President Zachary Taylor, Ft. Bliss has an area of about 1,700 square miles (4,400 km2); it is the largest installation in FORSCOM (United States Army Forces Command) and second-largest in the Army overall (the largest being the adjacent White Sands Missile Range). The portion of the post located in El Paso County, Texas, is a census-designated place with a population of 8,591 as of the time of the 2010 census. Fort Bliss provides the largest contiguous tract (1,500 sq mi or 3,900 km2) of restricted airspace in the Continental United States, used for missile and artillery training and testing, and at 992,000 acres (401,000 ha) boasts the largest maneuver area (ahead of the National Training Center, which has 642,000 acres (260,000 ha)). The garrison's land area is accounted at 1.12 million acres (0.45×10^6 ha), ranging to the boundaries of the Lincoln National Forest and White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. Fort Bliss also includes the Castner Range National Monument.

The Diocese of El Paso (Latin: Dioecesis Elpasensis, Spanish: Diócesis de El Paso) is a Latin Church ecclesiastical territory or diocese of the Catholic Church in West Texas. Covering 26,686 square miles (69,120 km2), it encompasses the Texas counties of El Paso, Brewster, Culberson, Hudspeth, Jeff Davis, Loving, Presidio, Reeves, Ward and Winkler with approximately 668,000 professing members, being 80.8% of the total population, served by 107 priests, 54 parishes and 237 male and female religious. The see is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of San Antonio. Erected on 3 March 1914, the Diocese of El Paso originally covered nearly 65,000 square miles (170,000 km2) in West Texas and southern New Mexico having been created from parts of the dioceses of Dallas, San Antonio and Tucson. The present boundaries of the diocese were established on 17 August 1982 when the New Mexico portion of the diocese was split off to form part of the newly created Diocese of Las Cruces. The Diocese of El Paso is a suffragan diocese in the ecclesiastical province of the metropolitan Archdiocese of San Antonio.

The Mesilla Valley is a geographic feature of Southern New Mexico and far West Texas. It was formed by repeated heavy spring floods of the Rio Grande.
