Coimbatore Central Prison is a prison located near Gandhipuram bus stand in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. The prison was constructed during the Madras Presidency year 1872. It is located in an area comprising 167.76 acres (0.6789 km2). The prison is authorized to accommodate 2208 prisoners. The freedom fighter V.O. Chidambaram Pillai was confined in this prison during the freedom struggle from 9 July 1908 to 1 December 1910.

Coimbatore district is one of the 38 districts in the state of Tamil Nadu in India. Coimbatore is the administrative headquarters of the district. It is one of the most industrialized districts and a major textile, industrial, commercial, educational, information technology, healthcare and manufacturing hub of Tamil Nadu. As of 2011, Coimbatore district had a population of 3,458,045 with a sex-ratio of 1,000 and literacy rate of 84%.Coimbatore district was part of the historical Kongu Nadu and was ruled by the Cheras as it served as the eastern entrance to the Palakkad Gap, the principal trade route between the west coast and Tamil Nadu. Coimbatore was in the middle of the Roman trade route that extended from Muziris to Arikamedu in South India. The medieval Cholas conquered the Kongu Nadu in the 10th century CE. The region was ruled by Vijayanagara Empire in the 15th century followed by the Nayaks who introduced the Palayakkarar system under which Kongu Nadu region was divided into 24 Palayams. In the later part of the 18th century, the Coimbatore region came under the Kingdom of Mysore and following the defeat of Tipu Sultan in the Anglo-Mysore Wars, the British East India Company annexed Coimbatore to the Madras Presidency in 1799. The Coimbatore region played a prominent role in the Second Poligar War (1801) when it was the area of operations of Dheeran Chinnamalai. In 1804, Coimbatore was established as the capital of the newly formed Coimbatore district. The district experienced a textile boom in the early 19th century due to the decline of the cotton industry in Mumbai.Post independence, the district has seen rapid growth due to industrialisation. According to the 2011 Census Coimbatore district is the second most urbanized district of Tamil Nadu after Chennai. The district has 71.37% urban population and 29.63% rural population. The urbanized areas of Coimbatore district include the city of Coimbatore, Karamadai, Podanur, Madhukkarai, Ettimadai, Thondamuthur, Mettupalayam, Annur, and a few other regions. Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya founded by Mahatama Gandhi 1934.

Sri Ramakrishna Hospital is a 1000-bedded multi-specialty hospital located in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The hospital was started in 1975. Sri Ramakrishna Hospital was established and is run by the SNR Sons Trust that was founded in the year 1970 by Mr. R. Doraiswamy Naidu (RD) and Sevaratna Dr. R. Venkatesalu, sons of Sri. S.N. Rangasamy Naidu. The trust successfully runs 15 organizations that caters to the social causes of society primarily focusing on Health Care, Education and Service. Sevaratna Dr. R. Venkatesalu (RV) and Mr. R. Doraiswamy Naidu (RD) single handedly established the Ramakrishna group and the SNR and sons trust on the land owned by his family. RV's wife late Mrs. Velumani ammal, daughter of PSG Ganga Naidu, played a pivotal role is creation of the trust. This hospital is accredited by NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers). The hospital was among the pioneers of cardiology, cancer treatment, IVF, kidney transplantation, neurology among others in the Kongu Region performing these procedures for the first time in Tamil Nadu.The hospital has also won the Guinness World Record for signing up 13,000 people as organ donors in eight hours.

Nehru Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium located in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. Constructed in 1971, It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium has a capacity of 30,000 spectators. The stadium is the home ground of I-League club Chennai City FC.

V O Chidambaranar park and zoo (abbreviated VOC park) is a zoological garden and amusement park located in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. As of 2013, the park houses around 890 animals including 335 birds, 106 mammals and 54 reptiles. The park is named after freedom fighter V O Chidambaram Pillai and is managed by Coimbatore city Corporation.

The Coimbatore Omni Bus Terminus was planned in an area of 4 acres near the G.P.Signal at Sathy Road to act as a hub for omni bus operations in the city.
