The Canton of Bischheim is a former canton in Alsace, France. It had 28,522 inhabitants (2012). It consisted of two municipalities: Bischheim and Hoenheim.This canton was founded on March 4, 1790 as part of the District of Strasbourg. With the founding of arrondissements in 1800, Bischheim was merged into the Arrondissement of Strasbourg. On June 28, 1900 the canton became part of the Arrondissement of Strasbourg-Campagne. It was disbanded following the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. To the north the canton of Bischheim bordered with the canton of Mundolsheim and to the south with the canton of Schiltigheim.

Schiltigheim (French: Schiltigheim, pronounced [ʃiltikajm], and sometimes [ʃiltiɡajm] by non-local speakers of French; Alsatian: Schelige [ˈʃelikə]; German: Schiltigheim) is a commune in the Bas-Rhin department in Grand Est in north-eastern France. The inhabitants are called Schilikois in French and Scheligemer in Alsatian. It is the largest suburb of the city of Strasbourg, and is adjacent to it on Strasbourg's north side. In 2017, Schiltigheim was the third-most populous commune in the Bas-Rhin (after Strasbourg and Haguenau), with a total population of 31,894.

The Souffel (German: Suffel) is a river in Alsace, France. It rises near Kuttolsheim and joins the river Ill (a tributary of the Rhine), south of La Wantzenau after a course of 25 kilometres (16 mi). It gave its name to two villages on its banks: Souffelweyersheim and Griesheim-sur-Souffel. Tributaries of the Souffel are Haltbach, Plaetzerbach, Musaubach, Kolbsenbach and Leisbach. In 1815 the Battle of La Suffel was fought on its banks.

The Aar is a river in the administrative district of Bas-Rhin which crosses the municipalities of Strasbourg and Schiltigheim. It is an arm which separates from the Ill at the University bridge to rejoin it at lock no 51 in Schiltigheim. Together the Aar and the Ill form the island of Saint-Hélène.

TGV 001 (Train à Grande Vitesse 001 ) was a high-speed railway train built in France. It was the first TGV prototype and was commissioned in 1969, to begin testing in 1972. The TGV 001 was an experimental gas turbine-electric locomotive-powered trainset built by Alstom to break speed records between 250–300 kilometres per hour (160–190 mph). The experimental train was part of a vast research program on high rail speeds. This program covered all technical aspects, principally traction, the behaviour of the vehicles, braking, aerodynamics and signalling. Originally, two trains were to be built, but only one was produced. The second was to be a tilting train equipped with an active tilting system, but was abandoned owing to technical difficulties.
