Bear Lake Township, Kalkaska County, Michigan

Bear Lake is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Kalkaska County in the U.S. state of Michigan. At the 2020 census, the CDP had a population of 366. Bear Lake is located within Bear Lake Township.

Bear Lake is a small, freshwater lake in Kalkaska County, Michigan, United States. The lake has enhanced clarity due to springs that feed into it. Numerous "Tiki Bars" dot the shoreline, placed there by the surrounding homeowners. The lake has a public sandy beach.

Lake Margrethe is near Grayling in Crawford County, Michigan. Its area is 1,920 acres (780 ha). It was formerly known as Portage Lake. Fish species include: rock bass, yellow perch, bluegill, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, northern pike, tiger muskie, and walleye. Portions of the Lake are within Camp Grayling. It is a favorite fishing and recreation lake for soldiers in their off-duty hours. There is also Lake Margrethe State Forest campground. This provides access for use by area residents, campers and tourists, who access the lake from the state forest campground located at its northwest corner. Lake Margrethe was renamed after the wife of lumber baron Rasmus Hanson (1846-1927). Mr. Hanson also founded the Grayling Fish Hatchery in 1914, and contributed real estate in three counties to the State of Michigan for military training, now known as Camp Grayling. Most of the lake is relatively shallow, especially the northernmost parts of the lake, those closest to M-72 Highway. The western bay has areas that exceed 40 feet, and the southern bay has a maximum depth of around 65 feet in a single small hole. Lake Margrethe is well known for its fishing.

Excelsior Township is a civil township of Kalkaska County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 991 at the 2020 census. The township was established in 1875. Portions of the township are served by the Excelsior Township School District 1, which is one of the last remaining one-room schoolhouses in the state. The current township hall also served as a high school in the past and is listed as a state historic site.

Camp Grayling is a military training facility located near Grayling, Michigan, primarily in Crawford County, and spread over three counties. Camp Grayling is the main training facility for the Michigan National Guard and is the largest US National Guard training facility in the United States.

Manistee Lake is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Kalkaska County in the U.S. state of Michigan. At the 2020 census, the CDP had a population of 465. Manistee Lake is located within Coldsprings Township to the north and a small portion extending south into Excelsior Township.

Excelsior Township School District 1 is a K-8 school district in Excelsior Township, Michigan. It operates a single one-room school, Crawford School, one of twenty such schools in Michigan as of 2016, The school is located between Grayling and Kalkaska, with the building 8 miles (13 km) east of the latter.The district was established in 1875.The district has 17 square miles (44 km2) of area.

The Kirtlands Warbler Wildlife Management Area is administered by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, and is located in northern Lower Michigan. The Kirtland's warbler is a Near Threatened neotropical migratory bird which were previously endangered. The breeding range of this species is primarily restricted to the northern Lower Peninsula of Michigan, and several locations in Michigan's Upper Peninsula and Wisconsin. This species winters on Bahamian islands in the Caribbean. Kirtland's Warbler Wildlife Management Area is located throughout eight counties in the northern Lower Peninsula of Michigan. Staff from Seney National Wildlife Refuge (Seney, Michigan) is responsible for land management at the refuge. Guided tours of parts of the refuge are available at the city of Grayling, around which the widespread parcels of this refuge are centralized.

WMQU (1230 AM) is a radio station which previously broadcast a sports format until March 2016 when it became an affiliate of Baraga Radio, a regional Catholic radio network based in Traverse City, Michigan. As of now it is currently affiliated with Catholic radio network Relevant Radio. Licensed to Grayling, Michigan, the station is owned and operated by Sheryl & Gerald Coyne, through licensee Blarney Stone Broadcasting, Inc. Blarney Stone also owns WGRY-FM and WQON, co-located at WMQU's broadcast facilities in Grayling.

Lake Five is a private fresh water lake in Kalkaska County, Michigan, United States. Lake Five has abundant water fauna including largemouth bass, bluegill, perch, painted turtle and snapping turtle. Lake Five also has abundant land fauna including black bear, white-tailed deer, garter snake, midland brown snake (Storeria dekayi wrightorum), red fox, beaver and wild turkey.

Kalkaska County ( kal-KASS-kə) is located in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 17,939. The county seat is Kalkaska.Kalkaska County is included in the Traverse City Micropolitan Statistical Area. Although it is located on Michigan's Lower Peninsula, Kalkaska County is considered part of Northern Michigan.
