Raadhuisstraat

The Singel is one of the canals of Amsterdam. The Singel encircled Amsterdam in the Middle Ages, serving as a moat around the city until 1585, when Amsterdam expanded beyond the Singel. The canal runs from the IJ bay, near the Central Station, to the Muntplein square, where it meets the Amstel river. It is now the inner-most canal in Amsterdam's semicircular ring of canals. The canal should not be confused with the Singelgracht, which became the outer limit of the city during the Dutch Golden Age in the 17th Century. Other Dutch towns also have ring-shaped canals named Singel. The name is related to the Dutch word omsingelen, "to surround", and comes ultimately from Latin cingulum, meaning "belt".

The Spuistraat in downtown Amsterdam connects the Hekelveld to the Spui. It runs roughly north to south, parallel to the Singel and the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal. At the Royal Palace of Amsterdam, the Spuistraat crosses the Raadhuisstraat and Paleisstraat. Originally the Spuistraat was a canal, the Nieuwezijds Achterburgwal. The canal was filled in in 1867, and the street renamed then.

The Bungehuis is a monumental office building on the Spuistraat, Amsterdam, built in 1934. In 1971 the building was rented by the University of Amsterdam, which used it to house the department of humanities and later purchased it. The building is a Rijksmonument.

Vrankrijk is a legalised squat and self-managed social centre on the Spuistraat in central Amsterdam. There is an events space on the ground floor and above it a separate housing group.

The Herengracht is the second of four Amsterdam canals belonging to the canal belt and lies between the Singel and the Keizersgracht. The Gouden Bocht (Golden Bend) in particular is known for its large and beautiful canal houses.

The Tabakspanden are a group of buildings standing on the Spuistraat in central Amsterdam, adjacent to the Keizerrijk and Wijdesteeg alleyways. Named after a previous owner called Hendrik Tabak, they were mostly squatted from 1983 onwards, although Peter Klashorst also rented an apartment and gallery space. Two of the buildings are registered as rijksmonumenten (national heritage sites). The best known building was Spuistraat 199, known as the Slangenpand (Snakehouse) because of the large mural which covered the front exterior. In 2015, the squatters were evicted and the buildings were mostly demolished prior to redevelopment. The new project is known as De Keizer and will feature 69 apartments, a restaurant and a gallery. The owner since 2016 is property developer De Nijs.

The Coymanshuis is a canal house on the Keizersgracht 177, Amsterdam. The double wide house was designed and built in 1625 by Jacob van Campen for two brothers, traders/bankers; one had six the other ten children. Their company delt in silver, iron and tar. It is Van Campen's first design in Amsterdam and was an important stepping stone to gaining the commission for the Amsterdam City Hall, today the Royal Palace of Amsterdam. He designed it for Balthasar Coymans (1589 - 1657) and his brother Johannes Coymans (1601 - 1657). The house was praised by the writer-architects Cornelis Danckerts de Ry and Salomon de Bray in their book Architectura Moderna in 1631. They claimed that all visitors to the city should see this building if they appreciate architecture.The house and office was home to various members of the Coymans family until it was inhabited by Jan Pieter Theodoor Huydecoper in 1759. In 1780 it was inhabited by his nephew Jan Elias Huydecoper. In 1887 it was sold to the city of Amsterdam, serving for a long time as a secondary school and today it is an office building, sheltering Amnesty International, etc.

Yab Yum was one of the best-known and most exclusive brothels in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Located in a 17th-century canal house on the Singel, it mostly catered to businessmen and foreign visitors. A second Yab Yum operated for a while in Rotterdam, but has since been closed. In January 2008, the city of Amsterdam closed the brothel by revoking its licence, alleging that it was being used for criminal activity.

The Leliegracht (Lily Canal) is a canal in Amsterdam between Herengracht (no. 148 and 169) and Prinsengracht (no. 124 and 241). The canal lies within the west of the Grachtengordel (canal belt) in the Jordaan neighborhood of the Amsterdam-Centrum district .

The Former Amsterdam Main Post Office, currently a shopping mall known as Magna Plaza, is a monumental building located at Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal 182, Amsterdam, Netherlands. It was built in 1895–1899 in Neo-Gothic and Neo-Renaissance style. The building has been a rijksmonument since July 9, 1974, and is part of the Top 100 Dutch heritage sites.

The Apollohal is an indoor sports hall located in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Built in 1934 as a tennis hall, the complex was later designated for expositions and ice skating. Since it was renovated in 2004–2005, it has mainly been used as basketball hall. It is the current home arena of Apollo Amsterdam, a professional team that plays in the Dutch Basketball League (DBL). It was also used by the Amsterdam Astronauts when it was the premier basketball team in the city. Since 2004, the building is a Rijksmonument and is on the Dutch national heritage site list.

Keizersgracht 143 is a canal house on the eastern side of the Keizersgracht between Leliegracht and Herenstraat in Amsterdam. It is a national monument of "very high value" (zeer hoge waarde) and "national distinction" (nationale kenmerkendheid) according to the Dutch Cultural Heritage agency.
