Pontsticill

Vaynor (Welsh: Y Faenor, meaning "The Manor") is a village and community (formerly a parish) in Merthyr Tydfil County Borough in Wales, United Kingdom. The population of the community at the 2011 census was 3,551.

Pontsticill railway station (historically Pontsticill Junction railway station) is an intermediate station on the Brecon Mountain Railway at Pontsticill, in the historic Welsh county of Brecknockshire, now Merthyr Tydfil County Borough. The station was previously the junction at which the Brecon and Merthyr Tydfil Railway line from Torpantau in the North split to serve the Brecon & Merthyr Railway main line and the Merthyr Tydfil branch. Today it is no longer a junction. The station opened in 1863. It was closed for 17 years from January 1963 to June 1980.

Pant railway station is the southern terminus of the Brecon Mountain Railway, a heritage line on the southern edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park in Wales.

Pant railway station (a.k.a. Pant Junction) was a station which served Pant, Merthyr Tydfil, in the historic Welsh county of Glamorgan, now Merthyr Tydfil County Borough. It was the junction at which the Brecon and Merthyr Tydfil Railway line from Pontsticill in the North split to serve the Dowlais Central and Dowlais Top lines. The line opened in 1859 and closed in 1964. The station had 3 platforms serving the Up and Down services to Dowlais Top, and at a lower level a single platform to Dowlais Central. All 3 lines were single track beyond the station. A new station (opened 1980) is the southern terminus of the Brecon Mountain Railway on an adjacent site.

Morlais Castle is a 13th-century castle located above the Taff Gorge near the town of Merthyr Tydfil in Wales.

Abercriban Quarries is a Site of Special Scientific Interest in Brecknock, Powys, Wales. The quarries are located near the village of Pontsticill, overlooking Pontsticill Reservoir. Abercriban Quarries comprise two small disused quarries. The site is of special interest for the rock exposures of the Grey Grit Formation of the Upper Old Red Sandstone, these exposed rocks span the boundary between the Carboniferous and Devonian periods of geological time, approximately 360 million years ago.

The Brecon Mountain Railway (Welsh: Rheilffordd Mynydd Brycheiniog) is a 1 ft 11+3⁄4 in (603 mm) narrow gauge tourist railway on the south side of the Brecon Beacons. It climbs northwards from Pant along the full length of the Pontsticill Reservoir (also called 'Taf Fechan' reservoir by Welsh Water) and continues past the adjoining Pentwyn Reservoir to Torpantau railway station. The railway's starting point at Pant is located two miles (3 km) north of the town centre of Merthyr Tydfil, Merthyr Tydfil County Borough, South-East Wales.

Pant is a village and community on the outskirts of Merthyr Tydfil, a large former mining town in the South Wales Valleys, Wales. Pant is notable for being the starting point of the Brecon Mountain Railway, and the site of the former Morlais railway tunnel, which runs underneath the village and emerges in the middle of it. The population of the community at the 2011 census was 2,656.

Pontsarn Halt railway station served the village of Vaynor and the area of Pontsarn, Glamorgan, Wales, 1869 to 1961 on the Brecon and Merthyr Tydfil Junction Railway.

Pantysgallog High Level Halt railway station was a station that served the village of Pant, Merthyr Tydfil, Wales on the Brecon and Merthyr Tydfil Junction Railway. A short branch line from Pant to Dowlais Central. The station closed in 1960 with the line and the site is now a housing estate.

Pontsticill Reservoir (Welsh: Cronfa Pontsticill) or Taf Fechan Reservoir is a large reservoir on the Taf Fechan lying partly in the county of Powys and partly within the county borough of Merthyr Tydfil in south Wales. It lies within the Brecon Beacons National Park and Fforest Fawr Geopark. The 110 ft high embankment has, since its completion in 1927, been holding back 15,400 megalitres of water for supply to industry and population to the south. At maximum fill level, the modern reservoir is continuous with Pentwyn Reservoir (sometimes referred to as Dol-y-gaer Reservoir or Lake) which suffered major water losses after completion due to the presence of major fractures in the bedrock beneath its dam relating to the Neath Disturbance, a major geological fault which runs northeast to southwest through the area. The reservoir is popular with sailors, anglers and picnickers. The Taff Trail runs through the woods on the western side of the reservoir whilst Merthyr Tydfil sailing club is based on the eastern bank. The Brecon Mountain Railway is a heritage steam railway which runs on the route of the former Brecon and Merthyr Railway up the eastern side of the reservoir from Pant Station to Dolygaer and, since 1 April 2014, on to Torpantau, the line's summit. Most of the banks of the reservoir have been heavily afforested by Welsh Water though management of these woods is undertaken by Natural Resources Wales on behalf of the company. Part of the 2011 film Submarine was filmed on the reservoir walkway. The Reservoir's bell-mouth spillway (also known as plug hole) featured prominently in the opening scenes of the BBC’s 2021 television drama entitled The Pact, as well as in the final episode of the series.

The Nant Glais Caves are a collection of six caves located near Vaynor in Merthyr Tydfil County Borough, South Wales. The largest cave, Ogof Rhyd Sych, measures around 2000m long. The site has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
