Albert-Einstein-Schule

The Exzenterhaus is a commercial office building in Bochum, Germany. Designed by architect Gerhard Spangenberg, the building was constructed on top of an air raid shelter built during the World War II era.

The Bochum-Gelsenkirchener Straßenbahnen AG (English: Bochum-Gelsenkirchen Tramways Corporation), abbreviated BOGESTRA, is a public transport operator in the Ruhr area, most notably in the cities of Bochum, Gelsenkirchen and Herne. As of 2012, the company operated, in whole or in part, 9 rail lines (2 Stadtbahn, and 7 tram), and 65 bus lines. In 2012, BOGESTRA transported a total of 144.9 million passengers. The company is a member of the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr (VRR) public transport association.

The Bochum/Gelsenkirchen tramway network (German: Straßenbahnnetz Bochum/Gelsenkirchen) is a network of tramways focused on Bochum and Gelsenkirchen, two cities in the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Opened in 1894 in Bochum and in 1895 in Gelsenkirchen, the network is operated by the Bochum-Gelsenkirchener Straßenbahnen AG (BOGESTRA), and integrated in the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr (VRR). It also serves the neighbouring towns of Hattingen, Herne and Witten.

Schauspielschule Bochum is the informal name of a drama school in Bochum, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, which is now part of the Folkwang University of the Arts. It has a long tradition, being founded in 1939 as Westfälische Schauspielschule Bochum.

Graf-Engelbert School is an urban high school for boys and girls in Bochum, Germany. Near the center of the city and the tree-lined Königsallee, it is located on Else-Hirsch-Straße. Else Hirsch was a teacher in Bochum during the Nazi era and organized ten children's transports, saving many lives, though she herself was murdered in the Holocaust.Graf-Engelbert School is only a few hundred meters from the Schiller School (also a high school). Due to that proximity, there are common courses (also including the Albert Einstein School) in all subjects in the upper classes. At one point, Graf-Engelbert was a boys-only high school, but was combined with a girls' high school which was then located near the Schiller School. Currently, 67 teachers teach approximately 930 students at Graf-Engelbert.

GLS Bank (full name GLS Gemeinschaftsbank eG) is a German ethical bank that was founded in 1974 as an anthroposophical initiative by Wilhelm Ernst Barkhoff and Gisela Reuther. It was the first bank in Germany that operated with an ethical philosophy. According to GLS Bank, its focus is on cultural, social and ecological initiatives, initiated by people, and not anonymous interests seeking capital or maximum profit. The name stands for Gemeinschaftsbank für Leihen und Schenken which translates as Community bank for loaning and giving. The bank is based in Bochum, Germany, and is a co-operative. As of November 2006, the bank's total balance was EUR 645 billion. As of 31 December 2008, the balance sheet total was EUR 1,013 billion, further rising to EUR 1,847 billion as of 31 December 2010. In 2015, the bank received the first German Award for Excellence from the Deutschen Gesellschaft für Zertifizierung (German Certification Group). The award was granted to honor the bank's fair business practices. In December 2016 at the annual general assembly, about 80% of the 1200 people present at the assembly decided to introduce the GLS Beitrag.

Bochum Hauptbahnhof is a railway station for the city of Bochum in western Germany. In its current incarnation, it was built from 1955 to 1957 and is one of the most notable 1950s railway stations in Germany. The station underwent extensive remodeling and modernisation from 2004 to 2006 and was officially reopened on 29 May 2006.

Altenbochum is a statistical area and a district of the city of Bochum in the Ruhr area in North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany. Altenbochum is East of the central business district. Altenbochum lies between Gleisdreieck and Laer. Altenbochum is connected to Gelsenkirchen, the district Langendreer, central Witten and Heven (district of Witten) by tram. Tram lines 302 and 310 and several bus lines stop here.

The Gymnasium am Ostring was the oldest gymnasium in Bochum. It was founded in 1860 and closed after the 2009-2010 school year. The school was located in downtown Bochum, near the main train station. In the 2005-2006 school year, there were 786 students and 55 teachers. In the early 80s, the school had over 1,000 students. The peak enrollment was 1,310 in the 1980-1981 school year. In humanities tradition, the school offered Latin, ancient Greek, and Hebrew. The school also offered English, French, modern Greek, Italian, and Spanish. In August 2010, the Gymnasium am Ostring merged with the Albert-Einstein-Schule to form the Neues Gymnasium Bochum, the new combined school's temporary name until a new one is selected. The school will relocate to the site of the former Albert-Einstein-Schule on October 22, 2012.

The Schauspielhaus Bochum is one of the notable drama theatresin Germany. It is located on Königsallee in Bochum, North Rhine-Westphalia. Eric de Vroedt is an established guest director at the theatre.

Bochum Nord station was a station on the Ostring (east ring) in the city of Bochum in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It was built by the Rhenish Railway Company between 1871 and 1874 and opened on 15 October 1874. The station, which was originally called Bochum Rheinisch ("Rhenish") station, for a long time served passenger and freight traffic on the Osterath–Dortmund Süd railway.East of the station building, an 11-road roundhouse was built in the freight yard, which is still preserved in parts. In 1883, the station was connected by the Bochum-Weitmar–Bochum-Nord branch of the Essen-Überruhr–Bochum-Langendreer railway to the Ruhr Valley Railway in Bochum Dahlhausen. Before the construction of the connecting curve in 1979 from the current Bochum Hauptbahnhof (main station) to the Bochum–Gelsenkirchen railway, the station was served by passenger trains in the route to Wanne-Eickel and Herne. During the period of Nazi Germany, the deportation of Jews to concentration camps in Bochum was usually held at Bochum Nord station. The locomotive depot was abandoned in 1959 and passenger services were abandoned in 1979. The second floor of the station building was closed after the Second World War for rehabilitation. Since 1979, the station building has only been used by the railway administration. The Moritz Fiege private brewery has acquired the station building so that it can be used as a restaurant and for administration.The freight yard is also the location of the main customs office of the Federal Government in the city of Bochum.
