Tiptree Heath (hamlet)

Tiptree Heath is a 25 hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest south-west of Tiptree in Essex, England. It is managed by the Essex Wildlife Trust together with the Friends of Tiptree Heath.This is the largest surviving area of heathland in Essex, and has a number of plants rare in the county. It is dominated by heather and bent grass. There is also an area of secondary woodland with oak, birch and aspen, and a stream with several species of fern on its banks. A small herd of Dexter cattle help to control the growth of invasive scrub.The site straddles the B1022 Maldon Road.

Inworth is a small village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Messing-cum-Inworth, in the Colchester district, in the county of Essex, England, near to Tiptree. In 1931 the parish had a population of 847.Inworth village dates back to medieval times, and has been known in the past as Ineworth, Inneworth, Inneworde and Inford. A placename close to the modern name is first attested in the Curia Regis Rolls of 1206, where it appears as Inewrth. This derives from Ina's worþ ("Ina's homestead").The grave of local celebrity 'Spotty', a faithful golden retriever, can be found by the village post office, attracting many visitors. His ghost is said to haunt the meat shop on the corner.All Saints' Church dates from the 11th century and is a grade I listed building.On 1 October 1934 the parish was abolished to form "Messing-cum-Inworth" and "Tiptree", part also went to Feering.

Tiptree Priory was a small Augustinian priory in Great Braxted, Essex, England and afterwards the name of the 16th century house built on the ruins. The priory was founded in the 12th century by the local Tregoz family as a community of Augustinian Canons Regular. The priory church was dedicated to Saints Mary and Nicholas.The priory was suppressed in 1525 as part of the Dissolution of the Monasteries by Henry VIII and granted initially to Cardinal Wolsey. In 1526 he granted it to Cardinals College, Oxford (now Christ Church) and then to his college at Ipswich. On Wolsey's downfall in 1530 it reverted to the Crown, who granted it to Edward Huddlestone. It was acquired in 1547 by Thomas Darcy, whose grandson Brian (High Sheriff of Essex in 1585) built the present house c.1570. This house was built in red brick in two storeys. The priory church was demolished. After passing down in the Darcy family for several generations, the property was sold and afterwards passed through a succession of unrelated hands.

Tiptree is a village and civil parish in the English county of Essex, situated 10 miles (16 km) south-west of Colchester and around 50 miles (80 km) north-east of London. Surrounding villages include Messing, Tolleshunt Knights, Tolleshunt Major, Layer Marney, Inworth, Birch, Great Braxted, Great Totham and Little Totham. The placename 'Tiptree' is first attested in a charter of circa 1225, where it appears as Typpetre. The name means "Tippa's tree".The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 9,152. The village has been expanding rapidly for several years with large numbers of new houses and estates being built, though it stills retains the title of being a village. The 'village' status was the subject of a local referendum in 1999 but residents and secondary school pupils rejected town status. Tiptree is amongst the contenders for the title of 'largest village in England'. Tiptree has four primary schools: St Luke's Church of England Primary school, Milldene Primary School, Tiptree Heath Primary School and Baynard's Primary School. Thurstable School provides secondary and sixth form education. Messing Maypole Mill, a Grade II* listed tower mill, and the preserves company Wilkin & Sons, whose products use the village name as part of their brand, are located in the village. Tiptree is within the City of Colchester and is administered by Tiptree Parish Council, Colchester City Council and Essex County Council. It is within the Parliamentary constituency of Witham. Tiptree was the site of the Tiptree sneeze, an event that occurred on 22 February 2014 at a concert by the London Central Fellowship Band at St. Luke's Parish Church where a trombonist sneezed into his trombone while playing. A video of the event was posted to YouTube and went viral in 2014.

Tiptree railway station was on the Kelvedon and Tollesbury Light Railway, serving the village of Tiptree, Essex, England. The station was 3 miles 39 chains (5.61 km) from Kelvedon Low Level railway station.The station was opened in 1904. It was closed, along with the rest of the line for passengers, on 7 May 1951.A short siding ran from the station into the Wilkin & Sons jam factory for freight traffic. The section between the jam factory and Kelvedon, through the closed Tiptree station, continued in use for freight traffic until 28 September 1962.

Messing Maypole Mill is a grade II listed Tower mill at Tiptree, Essex, England which has been converted to a residence. Prior to boundary changes made when the civil parish of Tiptree was established in 1934, the mill was in the parish of Tolleshunt Knights.

Thurstable School is a mixed (ages 11–18) secondary academy school, sports college and sixth form situated in the village of Tiptree, Essex, England. The school is about 8 miles south of Colchester.

Tiptree Parish Field is a 2.2 hectare Local Nature Reserve in Tiptree in Essex, England. It is owned and managed by Tiptree Parish Council.The site is on a field adjacent to Park Lane, an ancient road between Tiptree and Tolleshunt Knights. In 1976 the council purchased the land for sports facilities, but these were never constructed due to shortage of funds, and in the 1990s the area became a nature reserve. It has acid rough grassland with young oak woodland, and a pond which was created by widening Layer Brook.There is access to the site from Park Lane, off Newbridge Road. Tiptree Parish Field is the eastern half of the larger Park Lane Nature Reserve.

Inworth railway station was on the Kelvedon and Tollesbury Light Railway, serving the village of Inworth, Essex. The station was 2 miles 75 chains (4.73 km) from Kelvedon (Low Level) station.The station was opened in 1904. It was closed, along with the rest of the line, on 7 May 1951.

Little Totham is a village in Essex, England, with a population measured at 400 in the 2011 Census. The parish extends from the extensive common and heath-land of Tiptree down to the River Blackwater. The village lies about 6 miles 10 km) from Maldon and 5 miles (8 km) from Tiptree and lies on the back road between Goldhanger and the Maldon to Colchester road. It is part of Maldon District Council. Most of the population live on the edge of the parish adjoining Tolleshunt Major and centred on the main road running through the village past The Swan public house and children's play area. The rest of the parish is agricultural and the roads and field patterns remain much as they were at the time of the Domesday Book in 1086.

Messing-cum-Inworth is a civil parish in the Colchester district, in north-east Essex, 8.5 miles west of Colchester, and 15 miles east of Chelmsford. The parish consists of two small villages; Messing (population 250), and Inworth (population 100). At the 2011 the population of the Civil Parish was 363.
