Harton Academy

Harton is a suburban area of South Shields, South Tyneside, North East England. It was historically a village, however as the urban area grew it merged with its adjacent villages to become part of the town. Some of the original village buildings are still intact today, such as St Peter's Church.

South Shields is a borough constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election. It has been represented by Emma Lewell-Buck of the Labour Party since 2013. The seat was created by the Reform Act 1832 as a single-member parliamentary borough.The current constituency covers the area of South Shields in the South Tyneside district of Tyne and Wear.

South Tyneside College is a large further education college in South Tyneside in North East England. Its main site is in the town of South Shields. The college offers part-time and full-time courses for young students and adults. It was formed in 1984 by the merger of Hebburn Technical College and the Marine and Technical College, the latter founded in 1861 by a trust created by Dr Thomas Winterbottom, a former surgeon-general in Sierra Leone. The college is still one of the largest merchant navy training colleges in the United Kingdom, and attracts students from as far afield as India and Africa. It offers courses in marine subjects marine education such as navigation, operations, mechanical and electrical engineering, communications, and catering. The Marine and Technical College was formerly based in Ocean Road, South Shields, in a purpose-built building opened in 1869. This is now a public house called Kirkpatricks. There is a marine simulation centre on the main Westoe Campus and college sites throughout South Shields, such as: the Marine Safety Training Centre on Wapping Street; the Radar Station next to Ocean Beach Pleasure Park and the St. Hilda's Centre on Coronation Street. The former planetarium was closed in 2008, despite much local objection, and the space now houses a multi-faith chaplaincy. The college also used to own a campus in Hebburn however this was closed in 2011 due to upkeep costs. Also situated on the Westoe Campus, is the Dr Winterbottom Halls of Residence, otherwise known as "The Coronadrome". Opening in 1978, Dr Winterbottom Halls of Residence comprises six residential blocks, with the majority of the residents being marine students. It became a tertiary college in 1986 after the council's education reorganisation.

Horsley Hill was a football and rugby league ground and greyhound racing track in South Shields.

Temple Memorial Park is a park in South Shields, Tyne and Wear, England, given to the public by the Ecclesiastical Commissioners in 1946 and named after William Temple, the former archbishop of Canterbury.

South Shields Community School was a coeducational secondary school located in South Shields, Tyne and Wear, England, with pupils aged from 11 to 16.The school was formed from the amalgamation of Brinkburn School and King George V School. The school opened at the former Brinkburn School site in McAnany Avenue in South Shields in April 2007. The school is part of the South Tyneside and Gateshead Building Schools for the Future Programme and moved into a new £20M building on the site of the former King George V School in 2011. From 2018 the school is underwent a controlled closure which was completed at the end of the 2019/2020 academic school year.

Westoe was originally a village near South Shields, Tyne & Wear, England, but has since become part of the town and is now used to refer to the area of the town where the village once was. It is also an electoral ward for local politics purposes.

The A1300 is the main 'cross town' route in South Shields, Tyne and Wear. The road runs from Simonside to Marsden via Harton Nook. It is 3.7 miles (6 km) long.

The Leas is a large area of land owned and maintained by the National Trust along the coastal cliffs of South Shields, England.It is popular with dog walkers, joggers, kite flyers, horse riders, cyclists and other activities. It is the finishing line for the Great North Run which is a half marathon that takes place every year in or around October and the venue for the Great North Dog Walk. The Leas stretches for around 2 miles and goes as far as Souter Lighthouse on the way to Whitburn.

South Tyneside District Hospital is a healthcare facility providing healthcare services for South Shields, Jarrow, Hebburn, Boldon, Cleadon and Whitburn. It is managed by South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust.

Mortimer Community College is a coeducational secondary school in South Shields, South Tyneside, England. It takes pupils from the age of 11 to 16. It is a specialist Arts and Sports College. The school teamed up with the National Glass Centre for a project to design a large glass mural for the foyer of the school. The glass mural was unveiled by David Miliband, then the UK Foreign Secretary, on 19 March 2010.
