Rubicon (Belgium)

The Côte de La Redoute is a climb, often included in the Liège–Bastogne–Liège cycle route. It is located in Wallonia in the municipality of Aywaille and its incline is 1.6 km long with an average of 9.5%. It is named after a redoubt in the battle of Sprimont, which occurred at the village of Fontin, which is located on it, in the municipality of Esneux. It also runs along an access route to autoroute E25 level with the town of Remouchamps. The region is the birthplace of cyclist Philippe Gilbert.

The Battle of Sprimont, or Battle of the Ourthe (18 Sep 1794), was a battle during the War of the First Coalition between a corps of the French revolutionary Army of Sambre-and-Meuse under General Jean-Baptiste Jourdan, and the left wing of an Austrian army under the François Sebastien Charles Joseph de Croix, Count of Clerfayt. The battle was fought to outflank and force the Austrian army away from their defensive line on the Meuse river, and was a French victory.

The Ninglinspo is a stream in Belgium, tributary of the Amblève upstream from Remouchamps around Quarreux. The valley of Ninglinspo is classed as an outstanding heritage area of Wallonia. It runs between Vert-Buisson and Nonceveux. The Ninglinspo forms rapids around enormous blocks of quartzite, forming a series of pools with evocative names. The Ninglinspo gets its odd name from an error of French cartographers who mangled quite a few toponyms of the department of the Ourthe, confusing the name of the river with that of the site where it flows into the Amblève. Its original name is the Doulneux, Dulnosus in Latin, found in the Charter of Sigebert III of 647 AD. Dulnosus appears to come from a word meaning an alder wood.

Chefna is a river of Belgium. It springs in Ville-au-bois and flows for 5 kilometres (3 mi) through the province of Liège, before emptying into the Amblève. Around 1802, several farmers started looking for gold in the river and on the right bank the pits of a primitive goldmine can be found, although they have been mostly overgrown. The river had a low yield of about 0.40 grams (0.014 oz) of gold per ton of rock, although locals still talk about the man who "almost became a millionnaire" at the end of the 19th century.

Sprimont (French pronunciation: ​[spʁimɔ̃]; Walloon: Sprumont) is a municipality of Wallonia located in the province of Liège, Belgium. The municipality consists of the following districts: Dolembreux, Gomzé-Andoumont, Louveigné, Rouvreux, and Sprimont. Other villages: Banneux, Damré, Florzé, Lincé, Ogné, Presseux, and Rivage. On January 1, 2006, Sprimont had a total population of 12,782. The total area is 74.2 square kilometres (28.6 sq mi) which gives a population density of 172 inhabitants/km2 (450 inhabitants/sq mi).

Aywaille (French pronunciation: ​[ɛwaj]; Walloon: Aiwêye) is a municipality of Wallonia located in the province of Liège, Belgium. On 1 January 2012, Aywaille had a total population of 11,697. The total area is 80.04 km² which gives a population density of 146 inhabitants per km². Its area consists of 45.7% of wooded and wild country, 29.9% of agricultural areas and 24.4% of built-up areas.The inhabitants of Aywaille are called the "Aqualiens", from the Latin version of Aywaille "Aqualia loca", which means "area full of water" or "muddy land".The municipality consists of the following districts: Aywaille, Ernonheid, Harzé, and Sougné-Remouchamps. They include many villages as Aywaille, Awan, Chambralles, Deigné, Ernonheid, Paradis, Houssonloge, Pouhon, Harzé, Havelange, Kin, Stoqueu, Martinrive, Nonceveux, Playe, Quarreux, Sedoz, Septroux, Sougné, Remouchamps, Ville-au-Bois.

Banneux (French pronunciation: ​[banø]) is a village of Wallonia in the municipality of Sprimont, district of Louveigné, located in the province of Liège, Belgium. It is known because of the reported Marian apparitions of Our Lady of Banneux, also known as Our Lady of the Poor to a young girl called Mariette Beco.

Our Lady of Banneux (French: Notre-Dame de Banneux), or Our Lady of the Poor, is the sobriquet given to the apparition of the Virgin Mary to Mariette Beco, an adolescent girl living in Banneux, Liège Province, Belgium. Between 15 January and 2 March 1933 Beco told her family and parish priest of seeing a Lady in white who declared herself to be the "Virgin of the Poor", saying I come to relieve suffering and Believe in me and I will believe in you.

Rouvreux (Walloon: Rovreu) is a village of Wallonia and a district of the municipality of Sprimont, located in the province of Liège, Belgium. It is named after the hamlet at its centre. It was a municipality of its own from its creation on 21 May 1886 (by the merger of parts of the municipalities of Aywaille and Sprimont) until the merger of municipalities in 1977.
