Arena, Wisconsin

The Town of Arena is a town located in Iowa County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,444 at the 2000 census. The Village of Arena is located within the town. The unincorporated communities of Coon Rock, and Helena are also located within the town.

The William Henry Brisbane House is a historic house at the south end of Reimann Road near the village of Arena, Wisconsin. It was built in 1868 by William Henry Brisbane to replace an earlier house on the property, which he had owned since the 1850s. A native of South Carolina, Brisbane was a Baptist minister, a doctor, and a prominent abolitionist. The two-and-a-half story house has an I-house plan, which was typically two rooms wide and one room deep with a symmetrical layout; though the plan was named for its popularity in the "I" states of Iowa, Illinois, and Indiana, it was much less common in neighboring Wisconsin. The house is topped by a notably steep gable roof with a pitch of 60 degrees. Brisbane lived in the house until 1877, when his failing health prompted him to move into Arena; he died the following year.The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 13, 1990. In 2023, the "Brisbane House" was awarded the 2023 Board of Curators Restoration Award from the Wisconsin Historical Society.

Hyde Chapel is located in Ridgeway, Wisconsin. Originally a place of worship for Congregationalists, it also become open to Lutherans, Baptists, Methodists and Catholics. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. Today, an active Hyde Community Association preserves the structure and the spirit of this tiny country Chapel. Meetings are held at the Chapel in the Spring and Fall where members, friends and family gather for indoor and outdoor clean-up projects followed by a pot-luck luncheon. Hyde is an unincorporated community located in the town of Ridgeway, Iowa County, Wisconsin, United States. Hyde is located on County Highway H 5 miles (8.0 km) north of the village of Ridgeway. The community was named for William Hyde, who opened a saw mill in the area in 1856.

The Drohman Cabin is a one and a half story log cabin built about 1850 in Madison, Wisconsin, United States. The main structure was made of hand-hewn oak logs joined by German-style dovetail joints. Interior walls are wattle-and-daub, which is unusual in Wisconsin. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981. In 1989, it was moved near the Wisconsin River and Helena, Wisconsin in Iowa County.

In the 19th century Helena was a village that played an important role in the manufacture and shipping of lead shot. The buildings of Helena played a key role in the Black Hawk War of 1832, despite being abandoned at the time.

American Players Theatre is a classical American theatrical troupe and theater complex located near Spring Green, Wisconsin. It has been called the best classical theater company in the United States by the late Wall Street Journal drama critic, Terry Teachout. The Theatre was founded by Randall Duk Kim, Anne Occhiogrosso, and Charles J. Bright, and held its first performance in 1980. Performances are held at a 110-acre complex with two theaters, a 1,089-seat outdoor amphitheater and the 200-seat indoor Touchstone Theatre. David Frank followed Randall Duk Kim as artistic leader and as of 2014 APT has been led by artistic director Brenda DeVita.

Harrisburg School is a historic one-room schoolhouse at E7646 County Trunk Highway B in the town of Troy in rural Sauk County, Wisconsin. The Harrisburg School District built the school in 1892 to replace its original 1856 school building, which the district had outgrown by the 1890s. The one-story school is 26 by 38 feet (7.9 by 11.6 m) and has clapboard siding and a gable roof topped by a wooden belfry over the entrance. As the community of Harrisburg was quite small, the school mainly served children living on farms in the surrounding area. A furnace was added to the school in 1908, and the Works Progress Administration added a basement and new ceilings to the structure in the 1930s. The school closed in 1955 as a result of rural school consolidation in Sauk County.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 24, 2015.

Tower Hill State Park is a state park of Wisconsin, United States, which contains the reconstructed Helena Shot Tower. The original shot tower was completed in 1832 and manufactured lead shot until 1860. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. The park abuts the Wisconsin River and is bordered by state-owned land comprising the Lower Wisconsin State Riverway.
