Fond du Lac (town), Wisconsin

Fond du Lac () is a city in and the county seat of Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 44,678 at the 2020 census. The city forms the core of the Fond du Lac metropolitan statistical area, which includes all of Fond du Lac County. Fond du Lac is the 348th-largest metropolitan area in the United States.

Fond du Lac School District is a school district located in Fond du Lac County in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. It currently enrolls about 7,000 students and operates 10 elementary schools, 4 middle schools, and two high schools: Fond du Lac High School and an alternative high school for at-risk students. The district is governed by a seven-person Board of Education elected at large for three-year terms and is administered by a superintendent of schools. The board president is Mark Jurgella, and the superintendent is Dr. Jeffrey Fleig.

The Octagon House is a historic house located at 276 Linden Street in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, USA. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. Along with the Wallace-Jagdfeld Octagon House, it is one of two Octagon Houses in Fond du Lac. The house was featured as the second-most haunted house in Wisconsin on the History Channel show "Hidden Passages".

The Fond du Lac County Fair is an annual county fair that takes place every July in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, USA. The first Fond du Lac County Fair took place on September 29, 1852 in Rosendale. The Fond du Lac County Fairs' motto is "Education, Entertainment and Affordable Family Fun." Musical acts headlining the 2015 Grandstand include Grand Funk Railroad, (July 16, 2015) Great White & Slaughter, (July 17, 2015) Montgomery Gentry (July 18, 2015) and other family entertainment such as the Fondy Fair 5K Run/Walk on July 18, 2015. Other Grandstand shows include a tractor pull, horse pull, truck pull, BMX stunt show and a demolition derby. The only cancelled years were: 1917–18 & 1942–45. In 2020, officials had to limit attendance and cancel concerts & rides caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The fairgrounds was used as an automobile racing facility in the early 20th century. Past winners include Bill Endicott in 1912.

The First Baptist Church of Fond du Lac is a church located in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986 for its architectural significance.

The Chicago and Northwestern Railroad Depot is a historic former railroad station in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. The station is located on the southeast corner of Forest Avenue and Brooke Street. Rail service in Fond du Lac can be traced as far back as 1852, although Fond du Lac was also the namesake of the former Chicago, St. Paul and Fond du Lac Railroad, which existed from 1855 to 1859 before going bankrupt and being acquired by the Chicago and Northwestern Railway. In 1891 C&NW replaced the original station with the current one. The building's architect was Charles Sumner Frost. A near-identical twin station was built, also in 1891, in Dekalb, Illinois. The station served trains such as the Flambeau 400 and Peninsula 400 until it was closed in 1975, well after most intercity passenger service in the United States was turned over to Amtrak in 1971, which never used this station. The Chicago and Northwestern Railroad Depot was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 10, 1990. Today it houses several small shops, and the former right-of-way is a rail trail. An active railroad line exists west of the station, but that line was operated by Soo Line and no longer contains a station nearby.

The El Dorado Apartments in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin were built in 1921. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.

The Wallace-Jagdfeld Octagon House built in 1860 is a historic octagonal house located at 171 Forest Avenue in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. The two-story home features clapboard siding, a front porch, and a central chimney.On April 26, 2002, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places, becoming the second octagon house in Fond du Lac on the National Register along with the Fond du Lac Octagon House. It is located across the street from two other listings on the National Register, Hotel Calumet and the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad Depot.

The Northern Casket Company Building is an historic building located at 16 N. Brooke Street in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on January 11, 2019.
