Newton Highlands, Massachusetts

The former Weeks Junior High School, also known as John Wingate Weeks Junior High School, is a historic school located at 7 Hereward Road, corner of Rowena Road in the village of Newton Center in Newton, Massachusetts. Built in 1930, it was named for John Wingate Weeks (April 11, 1860 – July 12, 1926), who was mayor of Newton 1903–1904 before becoming a United States representative from Massachusetts from 1905 to 1913, a United States Senator from 1913 to 1919, and the United States Secretary of War from 1921 to 1925. He also was a co-founder in 1888 of the investment firm Hornblower & Weeks. His son Sinclair Weeks was mayor of Newton when the school was opened. Weeks Junior High School was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. Today the former Weeks Junior High School building is John W. Weeks House, a HUD apartment complex owned by the city and managed by the Newton Community Development Foundation, Inc.

The Fred R. Hayward House is a historic house at 1547 Centre Street in Newton, Massachusetts. This large 2+1⁄2-story stucco-clad house was designed by Winchester architect Robert Coit, and built in 1912. Mostly rectangular in its massing with a hip roof, there are two forward-facing gables framing the main entry, the right one projecting slightly. The roof of the left side gable sweeps down to shelter a sunroom. Fred R. Hayward was later the president of the New England Confectionery Company, which had been created by his father in a sequence of mergers.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

Newton Highlands station is a surface-level light rail station located in Newton, Massachusetts on the Green Line D branch of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority.

Crystal Lake is a 33-acre (130,000 m2) natural great pond located in Newton, Massachusetts. Its shores, mostly lined with private homes, also host two small parks and a designated swimming area with a bathhouse. The public is not allowed to swim outside of the small swimming area.

The Peabody-Williams House is a historic house at 7 Norman Road in Newton, Massachusetts. The 2+1⁄2-story wood-frame house was built in 1891, and is one of the finest Shingle style houses in the Newton Highlands area, with the asymmetrical massing, gabled projections and dormers, and corner turret typical of the style. It was designed by J. Williams Beal, and features extensive interior carving work by a locally prominent woodcarver, Andrew Lees.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

The Edward B. Stratton House is a historic house at 25 Kenmore Street in Newton, Massachusetts. It is a two-story stucco-clad structure, with a dormered hip roof. It has a Colonial Revival entrance with fluted pilasters supporting a decorated entablature and broken-gabled pediment. To either side of the entrance, single-story wings project forward, creating an entrance court; the windows of the wings have arched windows. The house was designed by noted regional architect Edward B. Stratton and built in 1912 as his family residence. The building features an eclectic mix of Colonial Revival and Craftsman styling.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

The Newton Centre Branch Library is a historic library building at 1294 Centre Street in Newton, Massachusetts. The building now houses municipal offices. (A new library building opened near city hall in 1991.) The 1+1⁄2-story brick building was designed by Newton resident James Ritchie of Ritchie, Parsons & Tyler, and was built in 1928. It was one of five branch libraries paid for by subscription of Newton citizens and built between 1926 and 1939. The building is basically Tudor Revival in its styling, although its entry has a Colonial Revival segmented arch surround.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

The Crystal Lake and Pleasant Street Historic District encompasses a streetcar suburban residential subdivision developed between 1860 and 1895 in Newton, Massachusetts. The district roughly bounded by the Sudbury Aqueduct, Pleasant Avenue, Lake Avenue, and Crystal Street and Webster Court. The subdivision was laid out in the 1850s after the Boston and Charles Railroad line (now serving the MBTA Green Line D branch) was extended through Newton from Brookline. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

Colby Hall is an historic building on the campus of Andover Newton Theological School at 141 Herrick Road in the village of Newton Centre in Newton, Massachusetts. It was built in 1866 in a mixture of Second Empire and Romanesque styles. It was named for Gardner Colby (1810–79), who was treasurer of the school and also was the benefactor of Waterville College in Maine, which changed its name to Colby College in his honor. On January 30, 1978. it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.In 1977, Colby Hall was renovated by Drummey Rosane Anderson, Inc. (D-R-A) to serve as its design center.

The First Baptist Church in Newton was founded in 1788. Its historic building (built 1888) is located at 848 Beacon Street in the village of Newton Centre, in Newton, Massachusetts. On April 15, 1982, it was listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

The Kistler House is a historic house at 945 Beacon Street in Newton, Massachusetts. The 2+1⁄2-story wood-frame house was built in 1893, and is one of Newton Center's most elaborate Colonial Revival houses. It has a veranda that wraps around two sides of the house, although a porch shelters the front facade. The porch is supported by clusters of slender columns, with a projecting central section framing the main entrance, which has leaded glass sidelight windows. A Palladian window stands above the main entrance, and the cornice line is embellished with egg-and-dart moulding, dentil moulding, and a frieze decorated with swags. Andrew Kistler, the owner, was a leather dealer working in Boston.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

The Cochituate Aqueduct was an aqueduct in Massachusetts that brought water to Boston from 1848 to 1951.
