St. Albans (town), Vermont

The St. Albans Raid was the northernmost land action of the American Civil War. Taking place in St. Albans, Vermont, on October 19, 1864, it was a raid conducted out of the Province of Canada by 21 Confederate soldiers who had recently failed in engagements with the Union Army and evaded subsequent capture in the United States. The mission of the raid was to rob banks to raise money, and to trick the Union Army into diverting troops to defend their northern border against further raids. The Confederates obtained the money, killed a local, and escaped back to Canada.

St. Albans Bay is an unincorporated village in the town of St. Albans, Franklin County, Vermont, United States. The community is located along Vermont Route 36 on the eponymous bay of Lake Champlain, 2.8 miles (4.5 km) west of St. Albans City. St. Albans Bay has a post office with ZIP code 05481.

St. Albans Town Hall is the center of government of the town of St. Albans, Vermont. It is located at 579 Lake Road (Vermont Route 36) in the village of St. Albans Bay. It is a Richardsonian Romanesque building, constructed in 1898, two years after the city of St. Albans, the former town center, was politically separated. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.

The Evarts-McWilliams House is a historic house on Georgia Shore Road in Georgia, Vermont. Built about 1799, it is a prominent example of Federal period architecture in northwestern Vermont. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

The United States Post Office and Custom House is a historic government building at 50 South Main Street in the city of St. Albans, Vermont. Built in 1938, and still in use housing federal offices, it is an enduring presence of the federal government in the city. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2017.

The District No. 2 School is a historic school building at 2442 Polly Hubbard Road in Georgia, Vermont. Built in 1843 and enlarged in 1931, it is a good local example of mid-19th century vernacular Greek Revival school architecture. It was restored in the 1990s after being abandoned for some years, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.

Woods Island State Park is a state park on Lake Champlain in Vermont. The park comprises the 125-acre Woods Island, and is located off St. Albans Point in Franklin County, Vermont. It is administered by the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks, and Recreation, as part of the Vermont State Park system. The park can only be reached by boat, and visitors must make their own arrangements to get there. There is no dock. Woods Island features five primitive campsites, with minimal sanitary facilities and no potable water supply. Reservations are necessary for camping.

The L'Ecole Saintes-Anges, or the Holy Angels Convent in English, is a historic religious and educational building at 247 Lake Street in the city of St. Albans, Vermont. Built in 1899, it is a prominent local example of Romanesque Revival architecture, and served historically as a significant cultural center for the local French Canadian immigrant population. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. The building has been readapted for residential use.

The Central Vermont Railroad Headquarters is a complex of railroad-related buildings and infrastructure in the city of St. Albans, Vermont. Developed between the 1860s and 1920s by the Central Vermont Railroad (CVR), the complex is the largest assemblage of railroad-related buildings in Vermont. Located between Catherine and Pine Streets on either side of Lake Street, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. Many of the buildings are no longer used for railroad functions, but the former Central Vermont Railway Office now houses the offices of the New England Central Railroad, and the present Amtrak station uses a former CVR building.

St. Albans is the only city in and the seat of Franklin County, Vermont, United States. At the 2020 census, the city population was 6,877. St. Albans City is completely surrounded by St. Albans Town, which is a separate municipality. The city is located in Northwestern Vermont, 29 miles north of Burlington, Vermont's most populous city which is located in Chittenden County.

The Willard Manufacturing Company Building is a historic factory building at 25 Stowell Street in the city of St. Albans, Vermont. Built in 1896, the building saw industrial uses continuously until 2006, retaining many original early period features. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.

The Giroux Furniture Company Building is a historic commercial building at 10-18 Catherine Street in the city of St. Albans, Vermont. Built in two parts (1896 and 1905), it is a reminder of the city's railroad-related history, and served for many years as an enduring commercial presence. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.
