Ghent, New York

Ghent is a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Ghent in Columbia County, New York, United States. The population of the CDP was 564 at the 2010 census, out of a total town population of 5,402. The community is located northeast of the city of Hudson. Ghent was originally the site of a Mahican Native American village known as Squampamock, Scom-pa-muck or Squampanoc.

Bartlett House, a historic railroad hotel, restored in 2016 to house a kitchen, bakery, and cafe. It was built about 1870, and is a three-story, five bay by five bay, square, Italianate style brick building on a raised basement. It features a full width front porch at the primary story and decorative cornice. The name BARTLETT HOUSE appears in white lettering between the second and third stories.: 3–4 

The Ghent station was a former New York Central Railroad station that served the residents of Ghent, New York.

Blinn-Pulver Farmhouse is a historic farmhouse in Chatham, New York on Route 66. Gail Blass Wolczanski, of the Chatham Village Historical Society, is working on restoring the run-down farmhouse. The restored farmhouse will be called Historical Society Education Center with a museum, archives, and a library. The farmhouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003 as Blinn—Pulver Farmhouse.

Chatham High School is a rural secondary school (grades 9–12) in Chatham, Columbia County, New York. CHS is the sole High School operated by the Chatham Central School District. In 2006, CHS has 520 students in grades 9 to 12. In 2010 the enrollment was 451.

Chatham is a village in Columbia County, New York, United States. The population was 1,770 at the 2010 census.The village of Chatham is on the border between the towns of Chatham and Ghent. The village is at the junction of Routes 66 and 203.

Union Station served the residents of Chatham, New York, from 1887 to 1972 as a passenger station and until 1976 as a freight station. It was the final stop for Harlem Line trains. It had originally served trains of the Boston and Albany Railroad, then the New York Central Railroad and the Rutland Railway. It served as a junction for service that radiated to Rensselaer, New York, to the northwest; Hudson, New York, to the southwest; Vermont, to the northeast, and Pittsfield, Massachusetts to the east and New York City, to the south. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and currently serves as a branch office of the National Union Bank of Kinderhook. Though it no longer serves as a train station, the rail line alongside it is still a very-active mainline for CSX freight rail between Selkirk Yard, south of Albany, and Worcester, Massachusetts.

Tracy Memorial Village Hall Complex is a historic village hall located at Chatham, Columbia County, New York. It was built in 1912–1913, and is a two-story, rectangular brick building in a Classical Revival / Colonial Revival style. It is topped by a hipped roof with cupola. The front facade features a monumental Ionic order portico of grey marble. Also on the property is the contributing firehouse (1925) and the H.F. Jenks Company Cup Fountain (1914) located in the Central Square.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2016.

Art Omi, formerly Omi International Arts Center, is a non-profit international arts organization located in Columbia County in Ghent, New York. The organization provides residencies for writers, artists, architects, musicians, dancers and choreographers. Ledig House serves as Art Omi's home and central meeting place.

Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School (HVWS) is an independent co-educational Waldorf day school set in the foothills of the Taconic Mountains in Ghent, Columbia County, New York, USA. The school offers classes from pre-kindergarten to grade 12. It is accredited by the New York State Association of Independent Schools and by the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America. Founded in 1973, the school is one of the oldest and largest of the approximately 170 independent Waldorf Education schools in North America. The first high school class graduated in 1983. The high school has a boarding program for students from other schools. It has enrolled students from Afghanistan, Canada, China, several European nations and Mexico.

The Pratt Homestead, in Spencertown, New York along SR 203, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2009. Its historic significance is attributed to the degree of attention given to its restoration. It was built around 1760 by a family of Spencertown known to have been among the founding members of this community. It served many purposes, among them being agricultural livestock management, as well as a primary residence. In its 2008 National Register nomination it was deemed:s architecturally and historically significant as a distinctive example of a mid-18th-century house built in the design and with the construction methods of the Connecticut River Valley that is a landmark of the migration of New England settlers into eastern New York in the years prior to the Revolutionary War. Erected sometime after 1757, when the Pratt family is reputed to have purchased lots in Spencertown, the twostory, center chimney house employing plank wall construction is quite unlike the domestic architecture indigenous to New York in the period. In addition, the plan and decoration of the interior epitomizes Connecticut building and design traditions.

The Nature Institute is a research institute located in Ghent, New York, that was founded in 1998. The Institute offers regular educational programs and has numerous ongoing projects and publications. In 2005, the Institute's publications reached about 10,000 people.
