The Metro Manila leg of the PiliPinas Debates 2016 is the first vice presidential televised debate of the 2016 Philippine elections and the only VP debate under the PiliPinas Debates series, held at the Quadricentennial Pavilion at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila on April 10, 2016. It was organized by COMELEC and KBP with CNN Philippines, and Business Mirror as media partners. The debate was moderated by CNN Philippines chief correspondent Pia Hontiveros and senior anchor Pinky Webb. The coverage also included a pre-debate show and post-debate analysis anchored by Amelyn Veloso with panelists Atty. The Arch of the Centuries (Filipino: Arko ng mga Siglo, Spanish: Arco de los Siglos) is a triumphal arch at the Plaza Intramuros of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) in Manila, in the Philippines that stands meters away from the university's Millennium Gate along España Boulevard. Half of the current structure, the side facing the UST Main Building is the ruins of the original Intramuros arch while the side that faces España Boulevard is a replica. The arch was formerly the original entrance to the university when the campus was still in Intramuros during the years from 1680 to 1941. It was declared by the National Museum as a National Cultural Treasure on 25 January 2010.

The University of Santo Tomas (also known as UST and officially as the Pontifical and Royal University of Santo Tomas, Manila) is a private, Catholic research university in Manila, Philippines. Founded on April 28, 1611, by Spanish friar Miguel de Benavides, third Archbishop of Manila, it has the oldest extant university charter in Asia, and is one of the world's largest Catholic universities in terms of enrollment found on one campus. Santo Tomas Internment Camp, also known as the Manila Internment Camp, was the largest of several camps in the Philippines in which the Japanese interned enemy civilians, mostly Americans, in World War II. The campus of the University of Santo Tomas in Manila was utilized for the camp, which housed more than 3,000 internees from January 1942 until February 1945. Conditions for the internees deteriorated during the war and by the time of the liberation of the camp by the U.S. Army many of the internees were near death from lack of food.

The hospital has two divisions, a clinical teaching hospital that offers inexpensive medical care for indigent patients and a private hospital for patients with financial means, which is partially used to subsidize the clinical division.

The college offers programs in Financial Management, Marketing Management, Human Resources Development Management, Business Economics, and Entrepreneurship. The college is one of the first business schools in the Philippines.

The University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines marks a variety of traditions largely influenced by the Spanish and Filipino Dominican culture. Many are annual events, such as religious assemblies marking the start and end of the academic year, a "welcome walk" for new students, as well as intercollege sport competitions and talent exhibitions. The Archives of the University of Santo Tomas (AUST), also known in Spanish as the Archivo de la Universidad de Santo Tomas, is located at the Miguel de Benavides Library in Manila. The AUST is the central repository of historical and rare documents pertaining to, but not exclusively, to the history of the University of Santo Tomas, one of the oldest existing universities in Asia, and the oldest institution of higher learning in the Philippines. The collections consist of historical documents such as Papal bulls, royal decrees, rare Filipiniana prints, historical treatises, addresses, sermons, novenas, catechisms in many Philippine languages, national periodicals, and academic records of all educational institutions in the Philippines during the Spanish period. The archives is also home to the only incunabula, or books printed before 1500, in the country.Aside from having one of the largest collection of 15th-, 16th-, 17th-, and 18th-century European manuscripts in Asia, the archives also boasts of possessing the biggest collection of extant ancient baybayin scripts in the world.

The University of Santo Tomas Museum of Arts and Sciences is the oldest existing museum in the Philippines. It started as a Gabinete de Fisica, or observation room, of mineral, botanical and biological collections in the 17th century. Under the old Spanish educational law the collections were used as classroom materials, especially in Medicine and Pharmacy.

Lacson Avenue is the principal northwest–southeast artery located in Sampaloc district in northern Manila, Philippines. It is a 6-8 lane median divided avenue that runs approximately 2.9 kilometers (1.8 mi) from Tayuman Street in Santa Cruz to Nagtahan Interchange. It is a component of Circumferential Road 2 of the Manila arterial road network and N140 of the Philippine highway network.
